Here is another report about the use of genetic genealogy by LE this time from the Daily Mail. Again it is my view that the website GEDMATCH has been involved in a number of cases where innocent people have been misidentified as the offenders in these serious crime cases and this needs to be factored into the debate when LE continue to request further access to DNA databases which contain other innocent peoples DNA:

I have to admit I am yet to see any major reduction in LE's use of genetic genealogy. Since the trial of Mr Talbott in Washington State there has been the rape cases in Utah, the rape cases in Visalia, another murder in Washington State and others including a high profile Serial Killer case in Florida.

I think DNA is a great tool to solving crimes. LE needs to do the work to back it up and confirm DNA has pointed them in the right direction. It can link a crime to someone that wasn't on the radar. If there is a rapist in my family I'm not protecting them by hoarding my DNA.

Thanks for the interesting post and for your view. What I am saying though is LE have made some very serious mistakes because they do not understand the science behind what they are doing or perhaps more apt the scientific flaws behind it. So what I am saying is people have accessed peoples DNA to accuse the wrong people of crimes. Therefore peoples DNA has been used to accused their innocent family members of crimes they did not commit. Furthermore any innocent US Citizen could be wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit and I do not think that is just or right and creates a whole new wave of victims including the innocent men and their families.

Here is another recent report about the use of investigative genetic genealogy by LE:

“Genealogy is developing a family tree. So if you got a crime scene sample…you can take that crime scene sample, and then you develop a tree, and then from that tree you try to reconstruct a family tree where that person might be…you can gather name and locations. That evidence is submitted to the laboratory. And then we will identify the bodily fluids, then cut those samples and put them into a process where we extract the DNA and develop a DNA profile,” said Jay Henry, Laboratory Director of Utah Department of Public Safety.

Here is another report about the use of investigative genetic genealogy by LE:

Since DeAngelo’s arrest, law enforcement has investigated numerous cold cases using genealogical DNA databases, whether from open-use platforms like GEDmatch or commercial websites like FamilyTreeDNA. While an impressive number of cases have been solved, finding usable matches that lead to an arrest is labor intensive and often difficult.

“It’s a steep learning curve,” CeCe Moore, head of genetic genealogy at Parabon NanoLabs, told Oxygen.com. “It’s been two years since genetic genealogists have started to be used. There are some law enforcement officials who are getting good at it. We just need more people that really put the time in to do it because there are a limited number of us out there that can work these cases skillfully.”

This report is related to the one already posted but there is a little bit more information in it including some comments from Curtis Rogers the owner of GEDMATCH:

The DNA database used to find the Golden State Killer is a national security leak waiting to happen

It sounds like GEDMATCH are dealing with it though:

Rogers, who is not a computer programmer, did not offer details about what fixes GEDmatch had implemented. “I let the technical people work on it and I believe they have,” he said in an interview. He later emailed to say the site was “actively working to add more security measures based on the reported problems.”

Ney says he does not believe the genealogy site is secure. “How much effort does it take to secure a large website with a million plus in genetic data? I think it’s hard for anyone to do, the questions I have is whether a volunteer run effort is capable of having the manpower to handle it,” says Ney.

Today is the first day of the new guidelines from the US Department Of Justice on the use of investigative genetic genealogy by LE. Again I address Public Defenders and Civil Liberties Groups and those who have concerns about the US Constitution. I believe in the Golden State Killer case the case that inspired the use of genetic genealogy an innocent man was incorrectly identified as the offender and the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson. What I am saying is this should be a factor in the debate about the use of investigative genetic genealogy by LE. Here is a report about a campaign to get people to OPT IN and upload their DNA to sites like GEDMATCH where it can be accessed in a similar was as it was in the Golden State Killer case:

I just can't figure out why Ralph Leon Jackson would be so important that the FBI would let him walk on all of the serial killer cases. Wouldn't solving them all be a huge win for the FBI?
I think RLJ was a man whom committed a terrible crime while in a severely compromised mental state. Not an excuse but also not a serial killer. I have tried to read everything I can find about RLJ and see nothing to indicate that he is a serial killer, IMO it's just not there.

Thanks for the post and input. In my opinion it is just an amazing coincidence Jackson was caught close to what I would class as his home base. My view is FBI Directors may have wanted to stop him committing his crimes but not as keen on admitting he existed. This is partly because he was not caught earlier and in my view was able to get away with comiiting so many crimes. I believe he was might best be termed a real life Michael Myers. Cheers

As I have said on this thread in my opinion ParaBon Labs have been involved in procedures that have lead to a number of innocent people being wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit. Not sure if the company mentioned above is another private company attempting to get in the genetic genealogy act so to speak:

Here is part of one of the above articles. We all want to see killers caught but in my opinion misidentifications through the use of genetic genealogy is a serious issue and it must be remembered this is a private company whose business includes genetic genealogy:

"GEDMatch is a game-changer, and we want to be able to continue to use this tool to solve more cases and possibly prevent them," said Allison Nunes, Chief Operating Officer with DNA Labs International. "Most people do not even realize their DNA was opted-out of GEDMatch in May 2019, so our goal with the #DNAOptIn campaign is to help bring awareness to the public about why opting in is so important for solving cold cases, as well as current cases."

How many documented mis-identifications have there been?

Thanks for the interest not trying to be funny but you really have to understand the EAR/ONS case to understand why they might show up slowly. Might be best to leave the EAR/ONS case to me and the FBI as many have tried to grasp it with limited success. Sorry if this sounds rude but thanks for the interest and of course you are free to have your say on things. Cheers.

Well thank you for permission to have my say on things. And I guess I will leave you and the FBI to the EAR/ ONS case. Since you don't present evidence or answer questions based upon your theories. I will leave you to responding to your own posts for another 13+ pages. Cheers!
