Several people have asked about where Travis’ residence is. I will post if I get the OK from an admin. But I will say there is literally nothing but woods around the property.
Interesting post, I hadn’t considered AI could be used to create CSAM, without it actually being perpetrated/performed.In 2012 in Sweden a translator of Japanese manga books was sentenced in the local court, and in the District court for possessing CSAM as there was drawings of that looked to be children, naked or involved in sexual situations, in the books he was translating, The case went up to the Swedish Supreme Court, where he was acquitted, and the prosecution was rejected. Only one of from the beginning 51 (later 39) manga digital drawings were considered to look realistic enough, to be considered as CSAM, but as it was just one of a large quantity of manga drawings in his possession, and he was an expert on Japanese culture, and the drawings were a part of his work, he was aqcuitted for that drawing too.

In this case it was drawings, not AI, but I wouldn't be surprised if a similar case involving AI will be prosecuted, and end up in the Supreme Court in Sweden, probably/hopefully with a different judgment. I don't think there has to be genuine CSAM images involved to create AI images, the programs are getting more and more sofisticated, and realistic. The step from taking drawings to create AI-generated photos/films is not so wide anymore.
It is up to the juridical systems in different countries to decide the boundaries, when any photo posted anywhere on the web can be used for nefarious things.
How about staying away from stating/describing the residence location, but showing the wooded area that’s relevant on a map?Several people have asked about where Travis’ residence is. I will post if I get the OK from an admin. But I will say there is literally nothing but woods around the property.
This one is near meInteresting post, I hadn’t considered AI could be used to create CSAM, without it actually being perpetrated/performed.
Still the same dehumanizing, horrific, intent. Any cases in the US yet?

Let’s try this…How about staying away from stating/describing the residence location, but showing the wooded area that’s relevant on a map?
My baseline recollection from law school is that current law on drawings basically says that since no child is actually abused in the creation, it isn’t a crime in the US. I suspect with AI - assuming that precedent holds up - the question will be whether any form of actual children were used to create the images. But this reaching back like two decades to 1L.Interesting post, I hadn’t considered AI could be used to create CSAM, without it actually being perpetrated/performed.

Thanks appreciate your input on this, I'll be watching the case for precedent - if there will even be one. Hard to believe this wouldn't be considered a crime and could be construed as - insert why it isn't a crime to create CSAM if a real child isn't physically harmed. My baseline recollection from law school is that current law on drawings basically says that since no child is actually abused in the creation, it isn’t a crime in the US. All woods. Makes you wonder if they have access to one of those infrared cameras that detects body heat.Let’s try this…
I tend to agree with you. If I saw my husband go off into the woods with a gun, especially knowing what all was occurring and the fact that he doesn't hunt or use a gun for pleasure, I'd be calling for a welfare check as soon as I could. I wouldn't be waiting for him to not come home to report him missing, much less waiting 24 hours. It’s strange to me that he took off with a gun into the woods, but then his wife reported him missing in the evening when he didn’t return (and then was apparently told to wait 24 hours to file a report).
If I saw my husband disappear into the woods behind our house with a gun, I wouldn’t just sit around waiting to see if he returned that night before I did something about it.
Maybe the information about the gun only came about later when someone checked to see if the gun was still there. Rather than at the time he was seen disappearing. But somehow it’s been mashed into a sound bite to make it sound like they knew about the gun from the start.
The comments out there about this case though make my head want to explode. So many apologists for child abusers! So much of the ‘but photos don’t really hurt anyone’ rhetoric. JMO![]()
