VA VA - Search continues Saturday for Union High School football coach Travis L. Turner, 46, of Appalachia - Missing since 20 Nov 2025

Several people have asked about where Travis’ residence is. I will post if I get the OK from an admin. But I will say there is literally nothing but woods around the property.

Here’s hoping the trash took itself out and his victim(s) can begin the healing process without this looming over them (or fear that he will come back & try to
intimidate them). They are massively brave for speaking up against a “winning” football coach in rural virginia. Thinking of them at this time while his face is all over the news.

In 2012 in Sweden a translator of Japanese manga books was sentenced in the local court, and in the District court for possessing CSAM as there was drawings of that looked to be children, naked or involved in sexual situations, in the books he was translating, The case went up to the Swedish Supreme Court, where he was acquitted, and the prosecution was rejected. Only one of from the beginning 51 (later 39) manga digital drawings were considered to look realistic enough, to be considered as CSAM, but as it was just one of a large quantity of manga drawings in his possession, and he was an expert on Japanese culture, and the drawings were a part of his work, he was aqcuitted for that drawing too.
From Wikipedia, translated into English:

In this case it was drawings, not AI, but I wouldn't be surprised if a similar case involving AI will be prosecuted, and end up in the Supreme Court in Sweden, probably/hopefully with a different judgment. I don't think there has to be genuine CSAM images involved to create AI images, the programs are getting more and more sofisticated, and realistic. The step from taking drawings to create AI-generated photos/films is not so wide anymore.

It is up to the juridical systems in different countries to decide the boundaries, when any photo posted anywhere on the web can be used for nefarious things.
Interesting post, I hadn’t considered AI could be used to create CSAM, without it actually being perpetrated/performed.

Still the same dehumanizing, horrific, intent. Any cases in the US yet?

How about staying away from stating/describing the residence location, but showing the wooded area that’s relevant on a map?

My baseline recollection from law school is that current law on drawings basically says that since no child is actually abused in the creation, it isn’t a crime in the US. I suspect with AI - assuming that precedent holds up - the question will be whether any form of actual children were used to create the images. But this reaching back like two decades to 1L.

Thanks appreciate your input on this, I'll be watching the case for precedent - if there will even be one. Hard to believe this wouldn't be considered a crime and could be construed as - insert why it isn't a crime to create CSAM if a real child isn't physically harmed.

Does this fall under some sort of constitutional right?

What if he does just "disappear"? Can the family move on? Declare him dead after 7 years?

People can, and do just "drop out" and leave. He could go rent a room in a house, no need to fill out rental paperwork, set up utilities. Get a day job, working under the table doing construction or maybe even personal training?

Or is the consensus is that he will found, a victim of self harm?

They said he took off with a gun. That makes me think he intended self harm, but not everyone who intends to do that can go through with it.
I wanted to point out that the river (on the left) is not far from the house... maybe 150 meters. There is a train bridge right there that goes over the river.

It’s strange to me that he took off with a gun into the woods, but then his wife reported him missing in the evening when he didn’t return (and then was apparently told to wait 24 hours to file a report).

If I saw my husband disappear into the woods behind our house with a gun, I wouldn’t just sit around waiting to see if he returned that night before I did something about it.

Maybe the information about the gun only came about later when someone checked to see if the gun was still there. Rather than at the time he was seen disappearing. But somehow it’s been mashed into a sound bite to make it sound like they knew about the gun from the start.

The comments out there about this case though make my head want to explode. So many apologists for child abusers! So much of the ‘but photos don’t really hurt anyone’ rhetoric. JMO 🙄

The AI-generated CSAM angle is interesting, and ripe for legal review seemingly, but TLT is also wanted for solicitation of a child online, and that charge surely refers to a real child, in the real word, solicited in fact by this man.

Travis Turner the head football coach at Union High School is wanted on [...] five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor and additional charges are pending according to the Virginia State Police.

Maybe that should be the focus of MSM reporting here.

I tend to agree with you. If I saw my husband go off into the woods with a gun, especially knowing what all was occurring and the fact that he doesn't hunt or use a gun for pleasure, I'd be calling for a welfare check as soon as I could. I wouldn't be waiting for him to not come home to report him missing, much less waiting 24 hours.

Did he have a passport? Do we know if LE searched the house?
