Nt, I didn't think his relatives were referring to him as a child; I think they were referring to him as a young adult.Buzz, his relatives said he was already cold and distant before he left Korea so I'm not convinced it was a result of bullying. It's possible something was very wrong with this young man from birth.
I saw CNN cover a little bit of this earlier today and thought it was a good gesture. As for Cho's parents the latest I heard is that they're in seclusion right now ~ perhaps afraid of someone coming after them?
Great article. It's clear the writing faculty was trying to deal with Cho. In fact, he got a lot more personal attention (private tutoring from the Department Head) than the vast majority of students at a large university.

Great article SewingDeb!
Hi Panthera, I watched one of these News talk shows today where one of the guests {MSNBC I think} stated there is an inherent predisposition for mental illness, such as Cho had, that is passed on by genetics. I couldn't believe it. He said Cho had the highest form of mental illness, which includes the violent aspect, and it escalated quickly from the time it was aparent he had problems at VT and students and faculty noticed it and he was sent to a mental institution for evaluation.
I almost don't believe the predisposition to the illness he had, and of course could be wrong. His sister, so brilliant she was accepted at Harvard but went to Princeton where she graduated and now works with the State Dept on the rebuilding of Iraq - they came form the same source.
The parents should feel no shame for their child turning into what he did imho. It could be there was too much attention given to the daughter as she was extraordinarily special. Orientals usually count on their male children to be the leaders as we know. He just couldn't overpower his sisters strengths and natural abilities and it caused him to turn into himself that he pretty much even stopped speaking aloud!~
Well, it is obvious I don't really know anything about the psychology of why this man turned out to be one who felt he had been besmirched by society to where he had to murder as many as he could to show the world how his viewpoint.
But God Bless the parents tonight. I heard they have both been hospitalized due to the trauma. Scandi
Buzz, the article I read did seem to be talking about him as a child. It's possible other articles written are talking about him at a later age, though.
I wonder if he could have been autistic, or somewhere on the autistic scale (Asperger's?).
I haven't read anything about any of the kids who were wounded. Has anyone seen anything about how they're doing? How many are still in the hospital, etc?
She too repeatedly referred to the killer as "son of a" or "
**hole" and said his mother Kim Hyang-Yim had problems with him from infancy.
Yang-Sun revealed the eight-year-old was diagnosed as autistic soon after his family emigrated to the US.
She said: "He was very quiet and only followed his mother and father around and when others called his name he just answered yes or no but never showed any feelings or motions.
"We started to worry that he was autistic - that was the big concern of his mother. He was even a loner as a child.
"Soon after they got to America his mother was so worried about his inability to talk she took him to hospital and he was diagnosed as autistic."
Look what's coming out of the slime pit:
Group plans to picket Va. Tech funerals
Is it wrong of me to wish that Cho had taken out these loons instead of the student?
