VA - Virginia Tech Shooting, 32 murdered, 23 injured, 16 April 2007

Buzz, his relatives said he was already cold and distant before he left Korea so I'm not convinced it was a result of bullying. It's possible something was very wrong with this young man from birth.

Nt, I didn't think his relatives were referring to him as a child; I think they were referring to him as a young adult.

Buzz, the article I read did seem to be talking about him as a child. It's possible other articles written are talking about him at a later age, though.

I wonder if he could have been autistic, or somewhere on the autistic scale (Asperger's?).

I haven't read anything about any of the kids who were wounded. Has anyone seen anything about how they're doing? How many are still in the hospital, etc?

I heard on the one of the channels today that Cho had bought the 22 off of the internet from a gun seller in Green Bay Wisconsin.
That sure never surprised me any.....I live in Wi & have heard about many gun dealers who could care less about WHO they sell a hand gun to. I'd like to :slap: !!!!! There are many gun shows around our state & anyone can buy anything they want.

I saw CNN cover a little bit of this earlier today and thought it was a good gesture. As for Cho's parents the latest I heard is that they're in seclusion right now ~ perhaps afraid of someone coming after them?

They are probably shocked to the core...and devastated that their only son would do this.

Great article. It's clear the writing faculty was trying to deal with Cho. In fact, he got a lot more personal attention (private tutoring from the Department Head) than the vast majority of students at a large university.

That's what I was thinking when I read that part.

I just read on the Drudgereport page that Cho's grandad said he was glad he was dead and called him an SOB. He must be a "bad seed." It happens.

Hi Panthera, I watched one of these News talk shows today where one of the guests {MSNBC I think} stated there is an inherent predisposition for mental illness, such as Cho had, that is passed on by genetics. I couldn't believe it. He said Cho had the highest form of mental illness, which includes the violent aspect, and it escalated quickly from the time it was aparent he had problems at VT and students and faculty noticed it and he was sent to a mental institution for evaluation.

I almost don't believe the predisposition to the illness he had, and of course could be wrong. His sister, so brilliant she was accepted at Harvard but went to Princeton where she graduated and now works with the State Dept on the rebuilding of Iraq - they came form the same source.

The parents should feel no shame for their child turning into what he did imho. It could be there was too much attention given to the daughter as she was extraordinarily special. Orientals usually count on their male children to be the leaders as we know. He just couldn't overpower his sisters strengths and natural abilities and it caused him to turn into himself that he pretty much even stopped speaking aloud!~

Well, it is obvious I don't really know anything about the psychology of why this man turned out to be one who felt he had been besmirched by society to where he had to murder as many as he could to show the world how his viewpoint.

But God Bless the parents tonight. I heard they have both been hospitalized due to the trauma. Scandi

Hi Scandi,
I also watched that show & was surprised to hear about the mental illness & genetics.

Tonight I watched Nightline & they stated Cho's family was under police protection in Centerville. His sister had contacted a spiritual advisor at Princeton & stated she hoped the Korean communities were not targeted on account of Cho's actions.

I sincerely don't mean to bash his folks for not talking. I don't blame them either....I'll take 50 lashes from a wet noodle....

I'm hoping that we will read, or hear, a year by year account of Cho's life from not only his relatives, but his schoolmates as well. Then we'll all know more about if Cho's environment contributed to his deepening mental problems.

From what I have heard in the media Cho was strange right from the get go as a kid... I guess his parents just dealt with him the best they could. I feel for them. It must be a true nightmare.
It amazes me that Cho managed to just slip by quietly for as long as he did.. O.K people thought him odd and he was strange but he just got on with things. Quietly ... Could it be that his quiet demeanour was just an act that he put on to hide his true thoughts and feelings. Or to hide his mental illness....
Just thoughts... like everyone I am grasping to understand the madness of what has taken place. We all need to understand but i doubt few of us will.. It is just too bewildering and awful.

Hoosiers encouraged to honor victims of Virginia Tech tragedy

INDIANAPOLIS (April 19, 2007) – To honor victims of this week’s tragedy at Virginia Tech, Governor Mitch Daniels is encouraging that bells across the state ring at noon EDT Friday, April 20.

Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine sent a letter Wednesday to governors across the United States asking them to encourage citizens in their respective states to ring bells in honor of the victims and to show support for those who have lost loved ones in this tragedy.

My apologies if this has already been posted

On Fox news I heard that the governor is also encouraging everyone in the country to wear VT colors today in honor of the VT Hokies, who lost their lives; and to show support for "Hokies Hope". I'm there!

Sorry to quote myself, but I just read an article (the same one where the grandfather calls his grandson an SOB and says he deserved to die), and it mentions how Cho was autistic:

She too repeatedly referred to the killer as "son of a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" or "🤬🤬**hole" and said his mother Kim Hyang-Yim had problems with him from infancy.
Yang-Sun revealed the eight-year-old was diagnosed as autistic soon after his family emigrated to the US.
She said: "He was very quiet and only followed his mother and father around and when others called his name he just answered yes or no but never showed any feelings or motions.
"We started to worry that he was autistic - that was the big concern of his mother. He was even a loner as a child.
"Soon after they got to America his mother was so worried about his inability to talk she took him to hospital and he was diagnosed as autistic."

Group plans to picket Va. Tech funerals

Is it wrong of me to wish that Cho had taken out these loons instead of the students?

These are the people who give Christianity a bad name, Furthermore, what they're ranting about is not scriptural. They're lunatics!! I guess they skipped over Jesus' teaching that ALL HAVE SINNED. There's not a perfect person on this planet.

” Phelps’ daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, said the Virginia Tech teachers and students who died on Monday brought their fate upon themselves by not being true Christians.

“The evidence is they were not Christian. God does not do that to his servants,” Phelps-Roper said. “You don’t need to look any further for evidence those people are in hell.”

So bad things don't happen to true Christians, according to these neanderthals?
Yeah, I get the free speech mumbojumbo, but these jerks cause pain with their actions. I'm sure the Patroit Guard will be out to minimize these idiots. (I called them three names in three sentences and I don't feel better. :( )

Oh 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 this really upsets me!!!! On 3/31 the funeral for Petty 1st Class Officer Cory Helman of New Richmond Wi was held. He was one of 4 victims in the helicopter that went down off the coast of Ca near San Diego in Jan. I gave the Eulogy / he was like my son.

His folks were notified these scumbags were going to picket the funeral. We were heartsick, (they carry signs saying thank God they're dead , they're the scum of the earth). The Patriot Guards from Mn & Wi came carrying huge American flags every 20 ft. 120 showed up to keep them hidden....LE was notified the picketers were coming / LE refused to let them on the church grounds. So they were never seen. The media never acknowledged the protestors.

Your not wrong to wish Cho had taken them loons out instead. I agree 100%!!! They're EVIL!
