VA - Youth Pastor kills family on Thanksgiving, Chester, 24 Nov 2017

Youth pastor. Interesting. Are youth in church easy to work with or does one need a lot of patience?

I wonder if he had explosions of temper in the past over other things . Is this a pattern?

Imo, he was in love with the stepdaughter.
Or,
hated the boyfriend/living together under his roof.
Angry with his wife about both.

I'm not ready to go there yet. Too early to tell, imo.

bbm - That's what I was just thinking too. Seems a bit unlikely that he would have escalated from zero to three cold blooded murders all in one night.

At work he had to be friendly, patient, helpful. Maybe at home he was a different kind of guy. Sadly the people who could tell us are all dead.

However, WTVR reported that Chris Gattis had past brushes with the law. “Christopher Gattis was charged with public intoxication in 2010 but the charge was waived. He was also charged with assault and battery in 2012, but that charge was dismissed, according to court records,” the television station reported, adding that friends described Gattis as the quiet one in the relationship and his wife as more bubbly.

What's up with the perp's two gunshot wounds to his stomach? Attempt to commit suicide? Shot by someone else?

Not sure if/how answers are relevant, but I'm curious.

Q1. Are youth ministers ( Lutheran, Christian) typically younger, like in teens, 20s, 30s?

Q2. Are "youth ministers" often a couple, rather than one person?

Q3. Is youth minister a full time paid position at this congregation, or part-time volunteer?

Q4. How long had he been youth minister at this church?

Q5. MSM says his family ran a furniture store. Was he involved/employed?

TiA.

Thank you for the link!

In the photos where he and Jeanett are having fun together he doesn't look genuine to me. jmo

Imo this man was troubled.

I thought the exact same thing re the photographs

Q2.

Q1: Often, but not necessarily. I think he started the job as an older adult - I don't think it's a job he started as a young man and made it his life-long career. I don't have a link to support that though, so I might be wrong.

I don't see a Q2.

jmo

Edited to add: Youth minister means that you work with youth, not that that the minister is a youth him/herself. Just making sure that's defined in case people don't know.

Yes, I understand YM= working w youth, but have only known them (4-5) to be in 20s-early 30's.

Also I added Q's to my ^ post.

So he drinks as an excuse to behave that way. This is something abusers do.

I NEVER, EVER indicated or meant to indicate that drinking was an excuse. Sorry if you took it that way. I know this happened on a "holiday." I read that he was an alcoholic, and I KNOW FOR A FACT that it doesn't take anything to "set off" someone who is an alcoholic. That's all I was saying. Drinking or drugs does not justify anything, IMHO, but it sure explains a lot, at times. JMO and I hope I never come across as condoning crime because of drinking/drugs. So heartbreaking.

I didn't say anything about you justifying it or condoning it. I meant he uses it as an excuse. And possibly others excuse or defend his behavior as "That's just how he is when he drinks."

Why We Can't Blame Abuse on Alcohol
Dispelling the common myth that batterers abuse because they’re drunk, and will stop when sober

Are you referring to this? bbm

Police were drawn to the home by a “reported alarm,” according to ABC News. NBC12 reprinted a transcript of 911 audio that allegedly said, “I have one detained; be advised he shot three people … I got one male subject on the ground. He’s got two gunshots to the stomach … Sir, we have two females down in the kitchen.”

I think the officer was talking about the boyfriend. Did you misread 'subject' for 'suspect' perhaps?

He sure doesn't look like he was just shot in his stomach in his mugshot.

If you state something as fact or say you read it in MSM, you must provide a link to support your statement.

You cannot state something as fact because you read it on another site. That is considered rumor and rumor posts are against The Rules.

Christians sin and are forgiven. Committing a crime (or a sin) doesn't mean you are no longer a "True Christian."

It isn't that simple. I am sorry I cannot explain it better; I lack the theological ability to do it.

I am a quiet Christian. I have no particular affiliation, but I do believe in Christ. He wants us to follow in his footsteps. Many fail. I do my best.

But when people fail (sin) it doesn't mean they are no longer Christians. Christ does not turn his back on sinners. It really is that simple.

Christians have failed and sinned and Christ doesn't turn His back on them but some have turned their back on Christ.
