Sorry to be so abrupt about that, but I learned it at 4pmEST on Fox and thought it would already be posted here.

They didn't find her at that house I don't think but by a creek. That part was said so fast I didn't get it, but they said there would be a news conference in 1/2 hour which would be 4:30EST.

God Bless Michelle and what she endured. And I hope her parents - well I just feel very bad for them now. They are both going to go thru such loss.

Scandi

yes, and they seem quite a bit older than normal parents with college-age kids, IMO. Prayers for them, this is just so, so awful. God bless Michelle and keep her.

The police chief seems very emotional & near tears. Body was discovered by civilians along a roadway that had not yet been searched.

Body is tentatively i.d.'ed as Michelle...manner is tentatively homicide, all of this pending a report from the medical examiner. Brian Rooney is their suspect, has been arrested on other charges that sound like child 🤬🤬🤬🤬/molestation, stemming from something that happened before Michelle's murder, but just uncovered.

Brian Rooney, 36 years old - from Richmond, VA - isn't that her home town, too - pretty coincidental......

This is disgusting. I wonder if this guy is like the loser who murdered the 17-year-old college student.

Thanks for the correction - I was wondering if the goofball followed her up there or something....

...Brian Rooney, 36, of Richmond, had been arrested.

Rooney has not been charged in connection with Gardner-Quinn‘s disappearance or slaying, Tremblay said. He‘s charged with sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. He‘s due in court on those charges next week in Caledonia County, about 80 miles east of Burlington, where the crimes allegedly occurred, Tremblay said.

The LE officer giving the news conference said he did not believe Mr Rooney was on the Sexual offenders list, but if he had been I think our new poster GoodAim would have pulled him up!

ETA: Thanks Lovely for the links. In your first link it clarified this man's relationship to the house where they were digging today: " . .WCAX reported that a man who had been a subcontractor on the job was the person whose phone Gardner-Quinn had used as she walked toward her dorm."

And in your second link it pointed out Tommy had called the number from which Michelle had called him right before she went missing and a man answered. I am sure this is how LE were on to this guy so fast. It really was an intense investigation and job well done by all the agencies involved. I thought the officer today in the NC did a great job.

Brian Rooney doesn't pull up on either Vermont's or Virginia's registry.

How sad. Another sexual pervert who harmed a child and then Michelle. Something must be done in this country to show this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. My prayers are with her family.:furious:

Lovely, the officer said he didn't think he was on Vt's sexual registry. I'd like to see what this perv looks like!

Poor Michelle, and her certainly devastated parents, family, and friends! God, how awful. :( :( :(

I just want to say to everyone in this country, particularly young women and men -- as much as is possible, do NOT go anywhere late at night ALONE. Be sure someone you trust is with you. Please, we need to look out for each other. No matter how safe you think your community is, you need to be cautious and think of your own safety. Take a cell phone with you, take a friend with you wherever you are going. Just, try not to go anywhere at night alone. You just never know. You can't trust that the stranger you've just encountered is "okay".

and tired of the evil in our midst. I have been so worked up all day about Michelle and that poor family in Fla. What is wrong with us that day after day people are committing the cruelest and most violent of acts against others just because they can?

May the God of all comfort be with all those who love and mourn Michelle's loss.

I just hope that they found Michelle's body soon enough to get some good evidence against the murderer.

Isn't Vermont the state that had that stupid judge that was very lenient with sex offenders? O'Reilly blasted the guy. What is tthe story with Vermont sex crimes laws? This is just so sad.

i agree... great job. too bad the skum was out walking the streets when he was already in trouble for some other sex crimes. if he had been locked away, this wouldn't have happened. but we just love to give everyone the benefit of the doubt in the USA,, 'innocent til proven guilty'-- so this is the price we pay. on the other hand, if the girl hadn't been so trusting of a stranger, it wouldn't have happened either.
he must be incredibly stupid, or had a few drinks in him, or both-- to lend the person he was about to kill his cell phone to make a call.. and then think he wouldn't get caught! DUH!!! well i'm guessing he was hoping to get a little action, thought 'oh she'll never go out with me' but wanted her anyway.. or that she was a 'tease' since she was being nice & talking to him.. so he tried to rape her, she fought back & he ended up killing her. all unplanned, on impulse.. with just enough alcohol to cloud the judgement & let the demons out. that's my guess anyway.

so sorry for her family & friends.
but i sure hope they can match this guy with other crimes in the area. where was he on the nights that maura & brianna disappeared, for example?
