Bumping this thread up.

Yes yes... yes. this is a forever 'bump' for me...
It is always eerie when driving the few roads that even exist in Glastonbury... Population: 8 (2018)
And how amazing the influence this case of Paul had here.

so am am adding just a few memories of both Paula and the town of Glastonbury..

I almost bought a house in Glastonbury a couple of years ago... Really happy that didn't happen now! I like living near all the history, but not in it. Too much spooky.

BEWARE: These 50 Strangest Unsolved Mysteries of All Time Are Seriously Spooky!

42. The Disappearance of Paula Jean Welden

"On December 1, 1946, a sophomore at Bennington College, 18-year-old Paula Jean Welden, told her roommate, Elizabeth Parker, she was going for a long walk but failed to return back to the shared space."

The Bennington Evening Banner Mon, Dec 09, 1946, Page 1: "According to Elizabeth Johnson, the missing girl's roommate, Paula had been in their room all morning. Elizabeth was brought to the conference last night and questioned for an hour by the authorities and newsmen.

She stated that it was possible for Paula to have left their room without her knowing it because she was studying with her back turned to Paula."

The article went on stating that Paula was a good hiker and could cover good distances. Paula knew that there were shelters along the Trail and that there were many camps which would offer shelter.

Page 6 states that Rose Michaels, who also has a camp on the Long Trail, while passing the Fay Fuller camp, observed a new late model, dark brown in color with a reddish tinge, sedan there that had been shining a spot light into the woods Sunday night. Sunday afternoon, Dec 1, Elnora France, who lived near the Michaels' camp, saw a similar-described sedan with occupants that included a good-looking blonde. She said the license plate was large and silver with dark numerals.

I believe the Rose Michaels Camp is next to the Fay Fuller camp. The article also lists other witnesses and clues that might interest researchers. A man and woman had been staying at the Fay Fuller Camp that night. I don't know whether they had anything to do with the disappearance of Paula.

These cases baffle me, urge me to find out more as all the cases do. The numerous people gone missing in Bennington Triangle, Paula Weldon, James Tedford ( missing from the bus), Freida Langer, Middie Rivers, Paul Jephson ( 9 year old boy). Is is just they disappeared or someone else involved in the disappearances. The Smokey Mountains are the same mysterious unanswered. What's everyone's thoughts? I wanna say everyone has been so nice, and reading everyone's ideas etc. makes think of different ideas, different approaches to look at these cases. Thank you.

The key to the mystery of the Bennington Triangle is actually the hamlet of Glastenbury. Unincorporated, one of only two towns in Vermont. Early settlers couldn't even make it in the weird weather conditions there... so it was basically an abandoned logging town early on. Current population is 7.

I have travelled the two long roads (that you can travel in a car) in Glastenbury a number of times, and you do really get a sense of eeriness and mystery! I know it is likely the power of suggestion.... but I do love to go there...

I do believe that a few of those disappearances have been poo-pooed, and not part of the Bennington Triangle mysteries.

This book, written by a curator at the Bennington Museum is a wonderful read. But this is my backyard, and my main stomping ground (SW Vermont)... so I guess I am a bit biassed. ha!

For me, the disappearances involve someone else, knowingly or not. In Paula's case, she may have wanted to be there to meet up with someone she couldn't be seen with on campus or around town. And/or she she was then abducted by that person or someone else close to her. Other sites have brought up family members, which would make the most sense statistically and where I'd start.

In other cases, someone may have offered a ride to a missing person who wanted to leave the area. That someone was involved in the disappearance, but not responsible for it. In general, the vastness of the wilderness coupled with humans smallness in comparison always add a layer of mysteriousness. And the same holds even truer for the ocean...because we know we don't know it's full breadth. For Bennington, the ratio of missing to a population in a certain time period gives it extra hinkyness, but I believe these cases all have a factual fairly simple conclusion.

I found more info about Glastenbury and Bennington Triangle, and Woodford ( the town right beside Glastenbury). The disappearances have been going on since late 1800's. I think if it was a bear or animal at first, there would be shreds of clothing or personal items scattered. The animals could have ravaged the remains later. Then more disappearances followed.
