WA - 3 children, ages 13, 9 and 7, among 5 killed inside Fall City home, 15 y.o. in custody - 21 October 2024

When I think of an 11-year-old girl being shot in the neck and the head by her oldest brother and then having the presence of mind to play dead--it just hits differently.

MOO, but I think most children would scream, beg, cry, etc.

She's only 11, and her whole world was just ripped away.

Looking at the photos of their property, the Posted: Keep Out sign, and then reading the following makes me think they may have isolated to some extent.

But, that's all hearsay right now.

And, that's still not an excuse to kill not only his parents but his siblings as well.

What was he thinking it would accomplish?
Not to defend the “Keep Out” sign, but living in the general area, and on a body of water out here, the entire metropolitan Seattle area tends to empty out into the Valley and the Mountains on the weekends to recreate, and they’re not always (or it seems - ever) respectful of private property. lol. Truly, especially since Covid, the trails have been “discovered” and people are branching out and just tromp wherever, they don’t care if it’s through our backyards or not.

When I think of the brother going around to check to make sure they were dead. He was a little monster. (I’m not allowed to say that locally)

eEThis struck me as odd. I don’t know all the ins and outs of homeschooling, but the circumstances of a situation where a teen is in trouble for “failing tests at school” while being homeschooled doesn’t fully make sense to me.

Appreciate any insight from those with more knowledge of homeschooling!

Pursuant to (RCW 200.010), home based students must take and meet an annual assessment exam approved by the WA State Board of Education. Parents have two options to satisfy the statutory requirement-- standardized achievement test or an annual assessment of the students academic progress written by a certificated certified person who is currently working in the field of education. Exams are generally coordinated with your local school district to make arrangements to participate in the state tests at one of the regularly scheduled administrations.

There are monsters among us. It's a profound mystery how a child can do such evil. The psychiatrists will have their work cut out for them.

That being said, a "minimum sentence of 25 years" seems far too little for the heinousness of this crime. Life in prison seems more appropriate, with the understanding that he might get paroled some day.
All dependent on a conviction in adult court.

JMOO, but I would think he'd still be a threat to his sister. He'd only be 40 when he got out if he got the minimum sentence and still physically capable of going after her.

If I was his sister, I'd be terrified of him getting out.

Who is even selling those recent pictures to the DailyMail? Because a couple days ago, the DailyMail was only able to find pictures of the family from 2011.

I homeschooled for many years and that stood out to me as well. I've never known a homeschooled kid to say it that way. They'd say "failing tests IN school". Maybe she did say it that way and whoever took her statement just wrote it "at school". Or maybe she did actually say it that way since technically it means the same thing.

MOD NOTE:

USA Today named the 15 yr old but this is not legal in WA State where an individual under the age of 16 requires a “discretionary decline hearing” to determine if defendant can be charged as an adult. Until the Court rules here, the juvenile's name is not released.

Websleuths attempts to abide by the laws in each country/state, so unless/until the court rules otherwise, please use only initials to refer to the accused.

Sources that use his full name are still allowed, but if the name is on the thread once you post the source, please use "report" so we can modify the link.

Thanks,

Knitty

A police report obtained by DailyMail.com shows the teenager attempted to blame the murders on his 13-year-old brother <name of minor redacted>, claiming the younger sibling shot the family members and killed himself after being caught watching 🤬🤬🤬🤬 the previous evening.

There's often a bit of truth in the lies of a defendant. I'd say it was probably the shooter who was caught watching 🤬🤬🤬🤬 on Sunday evening, and not his younger brother. MOO

I had the same thought.

Let me preface this by saying, I am in no way victim blaming. But I have to wonder why you would give your 15 year old the code to the gun safe? Isn't that the entire point of having a gun safe?

Also I wonder about the kids not being able to play with the neighboring kids of the LGBT+ family. It's beginning to paint a... certain picture of the family dynamics.

Judge Joe Campagna found probable cause on five counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder to hold the teen in secure detention and have no contact with "surviving family members of the immediate family."

According to Washington state law, there are no first appearance documents for juveniles. All information at a first appearance is presented verbally.

The teen has not been formally charged and the KCPAO has until Thursday at 4:30 p.m. to file charges with the court.

[..]

In Washington state, initial hearings for anyone under 18 happen in juvenile court, regardless of how they may be charged down the line, said KCPAO Director of Communications Casey McNerthney.

"The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will review the case for a charging decision when it is referred to us from Sheriff’s Office investigators," McNerthney told KOMO News in an email. "Prosecutors anticipate a case referral from King County Sheriff’s Office investigators as early as Thursday for a formal charging decision."
