WA - Cascade Mall, 5 fatalities, Burlington, 23 Sept 2016 *Arrest*

I don't know if we know for sure she worked in the cosmetics department, but she did work at Macy's. She has not worked or even lived in the area for quite some time. I've seen reports that say "several months" and "up to a year". You'd think if it was solely a revenge against girls thing, he would have gone to the theater and shot girls or couples there. I agree that a relatively small group of people in the Macy's cosmetics section seems to have some kind of meaning. He wasn't talking last night. I wonder if he ever will.

It was weird to drive by the jail (had to for non-related reasons) and think that he is just inside there somewhere. Its not a very big building. There is a small memorial of flowers and posters up at the main Cascade Mall entrance. Tomorrow night is a Light Up the Boulevard candlelight vigil. I will be there.

People keep talking about the ex-girlfriend working at Macy's. However, she no longer works there. I'm sure he knew that (it was even on her FB page.) So I would have a hard time believing he went there with her as an intended target.

Not sure why he chose the mall and that store. We may never know.

WILD SPECULATION on my part.....

He posted a question on SM about make-up (as referenced upthread). His ex-gf worked at Macy's. He shot people near the make-up counter at Macy's.

I'm thinking there is a connection.

Maybe he and his ex disagreed about makeup???

IDK....thinking aloud here.

We might not.

Why did James Huberty choose the McDonald's he chose?

This kid strikes me as dumb enough he went in the first time and forgot his gun.

This is not a funny situation, but I snorted when I read that. He and Luc Tiemann should be cell mates. Prison for (Dangerous) Dummies.

Familiarity and it represents her, possibly. If he can't find her, find her friends type of thing. Just speculation of course.

Off hand was there a particular brand name for the makeup counter, or is it just "Macy's"?

I dont know if we will ever know, but I think he beat her - thats why she left him guessing. So that is why , when I found she lived elsewhere - like far away- that he would not know- cause she got to the point where she was having nothing to do with him

I had an abusive lover, and it was just a absolute sudden (were in the driveway and he is doing a knife). **** one of us is gonna end up dead I left. I had crossed over.

That was it.

Unfomrtly it did not go that smoothly (!) but I knew that is it!!

Do you know how far "in" the store the makeup section was??

The suspect's former girlfriend has been located and interviewed. She has an employment history with Macy's but not at the Burlington Mall location.

I wish every LE agency in theplanet would see this , and follow thier example!!

I remain very baffled by the number of deceased being so hard to ascertain for the amount of time it was all confused - if they were all over the mall diff story - but strange as well

Eagan and his wife began running, but his wife fell down. As Eagen helped his wife, he was shot.

They lit five candles on a table in front of the church, one for each victim.

#BREAKING@WSP says the initial tip on the suspect ID may have come from the father, or someone else close to Arcan Cetin

Oh I just saw the drivers lis pic you guys were talking about - there is def a chilling or creepy vibe to it

I just thought I wonder if murderers ever come here and read what we think!
arrested without incident while walking down street

that too is somewhat bizaire - just out for a stroll after murdering 5 people?

Just some speculation about this crime:

  • Not being familiar with this Macy's store, AC first went into the mall without his weapon to locate the cosmetics counter.
  • He chose the cosmetics counter because women (his target) congregate there. They are easy targets because they tend to stand or sit at the counter.
  • Apparently he did not want to wander around the store (or mall) shooting.
  • AC shot all he could at the counter, lay down his gun on the counter and left failing to take his car. Perhaps he thought he would be subjected to a search before he could leave the parking lot if he took his car.

Just some ideas to kick around.

Drawn to shoot em up video games, guns, failed to make the grade where he aspired (mil.), violence toward family, in between cultures, lack of boundaries with women and violence, gets in line when needed, legal status pending in court, socially awkward, recent household changes (moving, distancing from family) and sold/used drugs according to a friend.

If not exactly all, some of these attributes are similar to the Chattanooga shooter, the recent NJ/NY bomber, and the Orlando shooter. The one thing that stands out to me is that they all three had run-ins with the law and went through court not too long before their attacks.

There are no known reasons thus far to think any of these are linked, or that others were involved, or that they were somehow directly and individually advised or assisted where to attack, to be clear. The following is complete and utter out there speculation.

That said, if they did have links not yet known, and the attacks have some common coordination, method of planning, building of a profile, then could ending up in court a few months prior to the attacks, could that be a way of clearing whether they are on the radar or not?

Could that be one of the tactics the so called "lone wolves" use to vet themselves for being on the radar or not before they become operational?

Could they be making a deliberate effort there after, once the potential attacker is known to be off the radar, to build the profile of a lone wolf to avoid detection of a network assisting them and to sow even more fear that just any nut can act following their online exhortations?

Considering all the plots LE thwarted last year before they happened, as well as stopping others before they left to join jihadi groups, could it be an adaptive tactic?

Common aspects of hits that seem to be repeating: fashion (in Macy's, by JC Penny, NY failed ax attack), life style & culture (beaches, a gay club, failed Times Square, 27th St.?), soft military/LE targets (Chattanooga, LE couple in France, failed the race in NJ, and others), and retaliatory (cartoons), and Christian symbols (the priest in France, failed car bomb in Paris placed by the women, and Chelsea).

He's not a Hillary supporter, it was a goof post comment to a friend about the Seahawks -- if they won, he'd vote for her. Let's stop with blaming a political party for creating monsters, they carry their own blame. (And I'm no way no how a fan of HRC.)

Tid bits:

The age range could be thought of in terms , symboliclly, of several generations of a "family" Maybe he went there for her, but observed a happy family together and it triggered eiether jeualousy or rage in that he did not have that in his life.

He isn't a US citizen, so whatever ridiculous bets he was making, he couldn't actually vote in a presidential election.

I'm thinking along those lines as well. It seems like he targeted the make-up counter, which is odd.....

jmo

Perhaps a girl wearing make up dissed him recently. Add that to some other slights , perhaps, and it put him over the edge
