Did the 16 year old go to his school. I cant help but feel their was some obsession with her?
No. He graduated last year from Oak Harbor HS. The 16-year-old was a sophomore at Mount Vernon HS. Oak Harbor is on an island in the Puget Sound, not even close to Mt Vernon. The girl was at Macy's looking for a pair of pants. I doubt he had any idea who she was.

Will Cascade Mall shooting suspect Arcan Cetin get the death penalty?
by: Casey McNerthney Updated: Sep 27, 2016 - 8:52 PM

Many people have asked: Will he get the death penalty?

It’s possible, but not likely.

Right now, Cetin is charged with five first-degree murder counts in Skagit County District Court. The case is expected to be moved to Skagit County Superior Court within 30 days, and those new Superior Court charges could be aggravated first-degree murder. That aggravated factor is what’s required for the death penalty in Washington.

I don't believe he knew the girl either. She just happened to be at the mall with her Mom and younger sister that night.

Oak Harbor is relatively close to Mount Vernon/Burlington though. Its barely a half hour drive on Highway 20 from here to there. Yes, its an island, but you don't have to take a ferry or anything to get there. Deception Pass Bridge is part of Highway 20. The news reporters from Seattle were driving us nuts talking about "how did he get back ON Oak Harbor?" Oak Harbor is a town on Whidbey Island which is attached to Fidalgo Island which is attached to the mainland by bridges that are part of Highway 20. Its all close, people commute from here to there or vice versa for work daily.

"Federal sources confirm to KING 5 that Cetin was not a U.S. citizen, meaning legally he cannot vote. However, state records show Cetin registered to vote in 2014 and participated in three election cycles, including the May presidential primary."

Before Wash. mall shooting, courts ordered mental health treatment for suspect

Suspect may have attempted gun purchase hours before Cascade Mall shooting

A source involved in the investigation says the dealer notified authorities about the attempted purchase Tuesday. Cetin reportedly tried to buy a .45 caliber handgun, a much larger caliber weapon than the .22 caliber rifle used in the shooting, but was turned away.
[...]
It’s unclear if he stole the gun from his father’s house in Oak Harbor before or after he learned he could not purchase a weapon from the dealer.

Arcan Cetin sounds more like a sex pervert than a spree killer.

Washington mall shooter’s neighbor said she was so scared of him she packed stun gun, filed multiple complaints
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/cri...bor-filed-complaints-attack-article-1.2806693

A woman who knew Arcan Cetin, 20, as her neighbor three months before a deadly mall rampage in Washington state said she was so scared of him, she packed a stun gun.

Oak Harbor resident Amber Cathey, 21, depicted her former high school classmate at Oak Harbor High School as a serial harasser whose crude behavior continued through adulthood.

Even as a teenager, Cathey said Cetin was “really creepy, rude and obnoxious.”

He is a minefield of red flags. I would not be surprised if Cetin is an injustice collector.

Maybe he shot people because his gun purchase was denied. He seems like a spoiled child.

More like a tipping point.

With Sarai? I can't imagine that, for some reason. She somehow seems so untouchable to evil, just there in the path of this savage.

"Our school is going to be wearing pink and purple for her on Monday," said [her friend] "Just to show our respects."

From Monday KIRO 7

She is so well remembered.

He may known right and wrong: if he bothered to stop at traffic lights before he did this; if he scoped it out; if he ran off; and, if he tried to buy a gun, three hours earlier, that day. Crazy people don't know what they're doing this much. Coming in without a fight, looking like a nut was doing himself a favor, again, seems to me, but the court will soon know better, once he is evaluated.

As mentioned upthread, when did he start to plan this? Before dinner with Dad or after? When and how did he manage to get the .22?

He had a laptop or pad with him, what do you suppose he used it for while he hid out? Did he try to figure out his best options? If so, did he do that alone? Maybe he was really hungry, dinner time coming up?

Why would a kid his age break the law to vote? How would he know how to pull that off? Why would he even want to? What would you guess drove that? Did his parents know about his voter fraud? What address did his ballots go to?

Accused Washington Mall Shooter Voted In 3 Federal Elections As Non-Citizen

Washington state mall shooting suspect Arcan Cetin could face another investigation related to his voting record and his status as a non-citizen.

Katherine Engelbrecht of the voter watchdog organization True The Vote wrote in a letter to Washington State U.S. Attorney Annette Hayes Sunday that the most recent data from the Washington secretary of state shows that Cetin registered to vote on Sept. 27, 2014, despite his illegal legal permanent resident status.

He later voted “in the 2014 General, 2015 General and 2016 Primary,” the letter said.

“His voter registration at the time of this letter’s submission is still listed as Active, according to public records,” Engelbrecht writes.

Engelbrecht notes that federal law 18 U.S.C. § 611 prohibits “any alien” from participating in federal elections while the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 mandates that individuals wishing to register to confirm their U.S. citizenship.

The punishment for voting as a non U.S. citizen could result in a sentence of five years in prison or a $10,000, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.

As he's going to get 5 life terms in prison, they could tack another 15 years on for this. Yet another example of voter fraud by non-citizens.

Maybe the federal source saw at one time he was a permanent resident and never checked to see if he became a citizen at some point?

My husband was a permanent resident for a few years and after we moved to Canada he let his green card expire. Travelling back to the US the guards were often confused. Baffled - why would he do that? Did he become a citizen? Did he still live in the USA? And I don't mean they were just asking - it was more like they were totally lost on what the hell his status was and could he be allowed into the country? So it doesn't surprised me their source (I wish they'd been more specific) got the facts mixed up. Right hand, left hand, etc.

it took about one minute for a gunman to stalk department-store aisles at a Skagit County mall and kill five people, snuffing out the lives of a high-school student, devoted husband, makeup artist, and a tough but caring public servant and her "Southern belle" mother.

tried to have Cetin involuntarily committed.-- this reads like for some reason they did not - does it hit you like that?

Thats pretty weird IMO, its called invol for a reason , while the core deal is danger to self/others - maybe its misrporting - he checked suicidaltiy and did admit - serious breach of liscensure stuff funny i was gonna put IMO, but that is not true its the law,

He was actually a US citizen, so no voter fraud.

Snopes says the reports that he was naturalized are false. So, who really knows at this point! Interesting discussion at snopes link.

CLAIM: Alleged Cascade Mall shooter Arcan Cetin voted in three elections despite not being a U.S. citizen.

MIXTURE
WHAT'S TRUE: Initial news reports said that Arcan Cetin had registered and voted in elections despite being only a permanent resident and not a U.S. citizen.

WHAT'S FALSE: Later news reports stated that Cetin was in fact a naturalized citizen and eligible to vote.

This is extremely heartbreaking for me. My community raised a murderer. This is a usually a very tight knit community. We have so much love for our children. I am so extremely certain that if the parents wouldn't/couldn't provide proper help, our schools and community should have. They totally ignored his needs from the start. I know our schools, though, and all they seem to have done was to find a way to pass and graduate him. WASL matters more.....I am so sorry we didn't do more for him. And, to clarify, Whidbey and Burlington do swap workers but is it a good 45 minute ride (if traffic cooperates). His Facebook........very disturbing. Why did NO ONE here, in my own community ever report it? Why are own kids (America) doing this to each other. AND my son was at the mall earlier in the day. AND it does....take a community to raise a child.

Is he or isn't? Two of these are from the the 3rd of October.

Kim Wyman using ‘typical Republican trick,’ opponent says

t turns out that Cetin is a naturalized U.S. citizen with the right to vote. Authorities initially said Cetin was a permanent resident, but later confirmed he is a citizen.

Gohmert, in questionable assertion, says Dems using non-citizen voters

Gohmert, a Republican from Tyler, said the shooter, 20-year-old Arcan Cetin voted three times despite not being a U.S. citizen. The allegation isn't true. Whatever else went on his life, Cetin is a naturalized U.S. citizen. That means he was legally registered to vote.

Cascade Mall suspect is U.S. citizen

UPDATE: King 5 learned Thursday that Arcan Cetin, the 20-year-old who killed five people at Cascade Mall on Sept. 23, is in fact a U.S. citizen.

For days after the shooting, Cetin was described by local and federal law enforcement as being a permanent U.S. resident. He immigrated to the U.S. from Turkey when he was a child, after his mother married an American citizen.

On Thursday, a federal official told KING that further investigation revealed that Cetin is a naturalized U.S. citizen. That means he was legally registered to vote.

We apologize to the readers for this erroneous report and retract the premise for the story.

I went through all his voter registration records (he voted three times) but couldn't find which party he registered with. Maybe that's a Washington thing? I think when I check mine online it specifies which ballot I need for the primary but not for the general.

But is it such a big deal? Obviously it is and someone really screwed up if he registered as a permanent resident, but:

Could non-citizens decide the November election?

How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent of non-citizens voted in 2010.

Estimated Voter Turnout by Non-Citizens

2008
Self reported and/or verified : 38 (11.3%)
Self reported and verified : 5 (1.5%)
Adjusted estimate : 21 (6.4%)

2010
Self reported and/or verified : 13 (3.5%)
Self reported and verified : N/A
Adjusted estimate : 8 (2.2%)
