I read excerpts from the book yesterday off google books. Parents are Pentecostal. Brother wrote parents adopted children because they wanted to show support for prolife.

It sounds as though RD is not accountable for Howard's assumption that she is black, but did they vet her portfolio? Presumably she's accountable for the artwork she submitted? But did they check?

White folks cannot paint folks of another culture? Somebody better arrest Gaugin!

This conversation is ridiculous.

I can't paint black people or have curly hair or I am a poseur?

My daughter cannot straighten her hair or she is not authentic?

Eff people who tell you what you are "supposed" to be.

Her parents were as much hippie as Christian fundamentalists until the early 1980's, when her father's politics took a sharp turn to the right, in part to get re-elected as county commissioner.

Quiver Full has no limits. More babies, more better. Raise them up to break their spirits. Adopt more for the Quiver.

I had to Google "Quiver Full" to get an idea what this post is about.

I don't see how it relates to this case.

has it been mentioned that she sued Howard Uni in 2007 or 8?

Otto- it wouldn't have mattered what trimester. Her parents didn't trust any "clinicians." Rachel's father delivered their children. No midwives allowed. Jesus was listed as their witness on the babies' birth certificate.

Rachel's mother told Joshua he was a survivor of the holocaust on babies since he was born after Roe v Wade, and according to Joshua, they adopted black babies to demonstrate their pro-life bona fides.

This reminds me of the mindset of people with Munchausen Syndrome or Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. Desperate for attention they fabricate illnesses but many of them also fabricate rapes, assaults, hate crimes, they even committ arsons and blame it on others.

I think she has lied about ALL of it.

Exactly. Have any of you read her SM about attending 12 years A Slave in the movie theater? Regardless of ethnicity, it seemed like a bizarre rant to begin with. When you consider our new lens, it is flat out nuts. JMVHO.

In a post about the Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave, she said it was “not the best film to take a white partner to on a first date”.
She advocates sitting in the back row of the cinema so that “if white people are inclined to stare, they have to turn all the way round to do it … so that during the movie people aren’t constantly looking at you to monitor the ‘black response’ to the film”.

I can only go by what has been reported.
"Dolezal attended college in Mississippi, then went on to Howard University on scholarship -- not having identified herself black then on her application, because there was no such option, though people there may have assumed as much "because her portfolio of art was all African-American portraiture," her mother said."

OK, well that was just a stupid statement, if not something more, on the part of her mother. jmo.

Could someone please clarify the following for me? My brain is not working.

Why did the parents come forward at this time? Was it the investigating journalist that did the research and called the parents for comment? And why was he investigating her? I can't remember how this all came to light. Thank you so much!

http://www.cdapress.com/news/local_news/article_385adfeb-76f3-5050-98b4-d4bf021c423f.html

According to Spokane City spokesman Brian Coddington, Dolezal was appointed to the Police Oversight Committee by the mayor himself. In April 2014, the city held two public workshops to consider how the oversight committee should be formed, Coddington said.

On the application for the oversight committee is a section to declare ethnicity. On Dolezal's application, she indicated that she was white, African-American, Native American and two or more races.

.....................................

In recent days, questions have arisen about her background and her numerous complaints to police of harassment. Members of her family are challenging her very identity, saying she has misrepresented major portions of her life. Dolezal’s mother, Ruthanne Dolezal, said Thursday by phone from her home in Northwest Montana that she has had no contact with her daughter in years. She said her daughter began to “disguise herself” in 2006 or 2007, after the family had adopted four African-American children and Rachel Dolezal had shown an interest in portrait art. “It’s very sad that Rachel has not just been herself,” Ruthanne Dolezal said. “Her effectiveness in the causes of the African-American community would have been so much more viable, and she would have been more effective if she had just been honest with everybody.”

It sounds like their parents managed quite well during childbirth if their children are alive, healthy, and capable. Low risk birth mothers probably, for the most part, don't need a hospital, and a well educated set of parents can probably manage as well as a midwife when there are no complications.

It sounds as though what I said is being misunderstood. I was only wondering, given the diversity of styles in her portfolio, whether some of the pieces were not attributable to RD. This followed on our discussion of the obvious plagiarism of the Turner masterpiece. I wondered whether, before RD got her scholarship at Howard, the admissions committee had checked out her portfolio for authenticity.

In other words, I was asking about artistic attribution and not anything related to ethnicity.

A quote he might now regret: "All memory is a little like this...inextricable from the story one is telling about the present, and as true as one needs it to be."

Some posts below snipped by me for space
It seems as though Pandora's box has been opened!
I can't help but wonder if Rachel created this, too.
My bet is she has done a lot of brainwashing over the years to benefit her own motives.

Buzzfeed article explains that her many and extravagant claims of being victimized are what drew attention to her other stories.

BUT. Who was the source that "reached out" and sent photos and contact information of her family to the media? Folks along the way seem to have been suspicious about her racial claims, not certain. Photos are proof.

Rachel is 100% responsible for her own mess, but I still believe something is off about the family as a whole. They are estranged, have been for years, and rather bitterly. Which is why I don't accept brother Ezra's accusations at face value, nor her parents' statements which often, IMO, are jabs at Rachel.

A supportive or even neutral family would not have commented to the media about her. These folks haven't piped down yet.
Until you deal with someone like this in your own circle I think it's hard to understand. Some people love being the victim. They tell their lies and I think some eventually believe what they've been lying about. Other times I think they know the truth but the lie gets so much more attention.
As for me I can't in good faith believe anything Rachel says.
As for who outed her I could care less but I'm sure she's made more enemies along the way by seeming to lie her way through life. People eventually get sick of it and while I can wait for karma to get back to those people without dirtying my own hands, many can't. Maybe someone that knows her parents were the ones that put the media onto the parents and onto Rachel's numerous lies.
Their parents were asked and they told the truth as far as I see it. The truth and they proved it. I personally think they could have dogged her but were respectful enough, even though she has probably dragged them through hell and back, to not go there.

But do they have to be so eager in exposing her even to the point of bringing out pictures? I'll admit I find that interesting.
She brought all of this on herself. All of it.

I think it is more complicated than that. From what I understand, she never said to Howard University that she was black. What happened was that she applied to the school and sent photos of her paintings, which were all portraits of black subjects and she was accepted and given a scholarship. Supposedly, the school was surprised when they saw that she was a white girl, but she did not do anything illegal when she applied.
Rachel's a liar. I want to see how she filled out that ap.

Joshua says his mother had to persuade his father to allow her to buy the Encyclopedia Briticanna so she could educate herself. He bought all the volumes, but they remained in their shrink wrap on the book shelves. Reading when chores could be done was impermissible enough that his father raged if he caught anyone so bold.

After reading all of the articles, interviews, and her journals, and the comments posted below them all, one thing stands out to me. Why did she keep her same name?

The reason I ask is that , apparently, many people from Montana also travel around in Idaho and Washington. So there were many people who knew her in the past, that saw her very high profile role as an ombudsmen and NAACP President. And they were so surprised because they knew her by name but she looked so different.

I wonder why she didsn't just change her name to get her fresh start?

How did they both end up in college then?

Her mother miscarried her first baby, at around age 18 or 19, one year or so after the teepee. She was at home, and bleeding profusely. She refused to go to a hospital or to allow anyone to come take care of her, saying she was prepared to die if that was God's will.

Oh boy.

Howard university doesn't have a policy that restricts students to one race or ethnicity anyhow.

has it been mentioned that she sued Howard Uni in 2007 or 8?

No!!! Wth! Can you tell us?

why would someone spend that kind of money & not even browse through them? is there a disclaimer at the front of this book stating that it's a fictional narrative? because I'm beginning to wonder if deception is a family trait ...

He talks about being worried about Rachel, that her ex isn't paying her child support and she doesn't have the money to hire another attorney.
