I need some help. I have watched two of the KOIN segements, "Did DB Cooper survive?" and "DB Cooper unmasked".

I cannot locate the third and final installment (from last night). Can anyone help me find it?

I have gone through all the titles under "video on demand" and only the two above mention DB Cooper. What am I looking for?

A true but funny story

During our lunch with H-bach, matt, myself, and a second retired fbi agent on July 13, 2001 the following transpired.

The other agent, I will protect his name. I'll call me Jim Jones.

Anyway, he listened to our case, and started asking H-bach questions about our suspect.

Well, H-bach immediately got defensive/

anyway, Jim Jones asked H-bach the following "did you put a picture of Mayfield in a lineup and show it to the flight attendants"?

H-bach hesitated, and said "we must have" (remember, H-bach has never interviewed the flight attendants)

Well, first of all, FBI agents are taught, yes, or no answers.

Second, if Mayfield had the best alibi of anyone, why would you put his picture in a lineup? I thought he was too young, and a couple inches too short?

Third, if you never considered him as a suspect, why in the world would you show a picture of him to a witness?

I lost a lot of respect for h-bach at lunch. He didn't know how to answer. I knew the answer was probably "no", but he didn't want to embarass himself in front of another agent, so he said "we must have". Right there, I knew he would protect his reputation ahead of solving this case. that was crystal clear.

Does anyone else see the irony in this?

It is not on the internet yet. It is only 8:30 am here and they usually run it during the 5-7 am show.

I know yesterday, it wasn't on the web until about 9am pacific time.

AS soon as it hits the web, I'll or someone else will let you know.

Good Morning Everyone,

Tranaice, I understood exactly what you were saying and think you put everything into perspective perfectly!

I also was quite disappointed in last nights show as it left some doubt as to his physical possibilities as a match. Like has been stated here, height, weight and age are such variables, and KOIN didn't take into account how investigators look at these things. They are relative facts.

Also, having the two newscasters for the evening both say they didn't think it was him was kind of a slap in the face to their employer who had spent a lot of time and money doing the shows. Pretty poor taste on their part I thought. Naturally my mouth dropped open when I heard them say that!

Since the 1st promo I watched I have had a feeling about H-bach in that his speech is a bit slurred and am wondering if he has had any small strokes? It could explain one reason why he is contradicting what he wrote in his book.

But I thought he said two things in that first spot that rang home for me. One was when he said Mayfield would have been a very logical subject {or suspect ?} and that he'll just have to live with the fact he was the guy's alibi. His decision to eliminate him as a suspect because of that phone call he said couldn't have been made by the hijacker has been proven by you guys to be totally wrong. In making that error in judgement and not revisiting the case from a different angle with a different drop-point, for example, he let himself be set up as an alibi. H-bach forgot to mention he never asked Mayfield exactly where he was at 8:13 that evening. Unforgivable the way he ran the case IMHO. I do hope this fact is made very clear to whoever is running the case right now at the FBI!

Thanks for all your work Left, which I am sure will continue on. Am anxious to see the repurcussions now, somehow thinking you have made some good media connections, and hope our Adnoid is going to give Peggy Gilligan a jingle this morning! YaYa!

Thanks! I hadn't even thought about that, but I guess it was later in the day when I found and watched the other two segments.

I'll check back on the KOIN site later today.

thanks Scandi. Couldn't agree more

I felt like last nights show was a slap in the face. We were used for sweeps week. KOIN burned a bridge last night, that can't be fixed.

It was pre-meditated. I will explain.

Since the beginning, KOIN has been worried about being sued for suspecting Mayfield.

Hence, they brought it out like we thought he was Cooper, and made everyone believe it.

then, on the last night, they purposely had their anchors say "they didn't think it was him" so that Teddy can't sue them. I know for a fact that was their entire motive.

You can't say on tv, I know someone is db cooper. that is why we and KOIN said he was a good suspect and should have been investigated. PLus, none of us was on that airplane.

But, we all know what happened on 11/24/71, and why it happened in Portland, and why h-bach was the lead investigator.

Like everyone else in media (with a few exceptions), they use the public.

However, we knew the potential and we used KOIN to get the story out. National shows have been calling us, and this story should air this evening or tomorrow on Inside Edition.

You know what they say on the news, "if it bleeds, it leads". Just like Don Henley would say "dirty laundry", "get the widow on the set, we need dirty laundry".

Left, Inside Edition is a perfect choice for this story! Neato!

I have to get to work, but am wondering a couple of things in feference to the FBI now. That poorosity of the chute, do they know the rigger and Cooper were the only 2 people that knew that? When did this come up {I just don't have time right now to read back as I know you told us}.

Was the BG VOR mentioned in one of those spots? Just want to make sure they are aware of that and all of the great info Adnoid gave us.

I'll check in this afternoon! ;} Scandi

The first one appears to be the correct property. That address is a "valid" address. Trust me. The county assessor is behind the times.

If you do a US Search on our guy, it actually gives the 394 NW orchard as one of his addresses.

Another thing, go to google, and type in the 394 NW ORchard address. It will show you the property.

I still think that building was built under the radar. No permits, no taxes, etc. who knows, the owner could be clueless about Cooper since she lived in Minnesota.

thanks adnoid

Thanks LC and Adnoid! I've been hooked on this thread for several months now and have really enjoyed the video's and teasers on KOIN. After the addresses came out last night on this thread (about page 23) I Google Earthed them. Amazing to fly right in over it. You need DSL to really enjoy it and the download is free. I think I even see the plane in one of the pics.

I don't know what the FBI is doing, if anything. They don't share information with the public related to suspects or ongoing investigations.

No, KOIN never mentioned the VOR's, or how Cooper was able to target his jumpsite.

I thought the pieces should have centered more on how easy it was to pull off Cooper's heist, but KOIN went the easier route.

As for the porosity of the chutes. Come on. How in the world could someone remember the porosity 35 years later? I'll bet he relives that night over and over again and "chuckles".

well, this isn't over. The feds don't like it when people screw with them. And he has already screwed with the FAA, and has quite a few enemies there.

ya, he has controlled that airport since 1972, one year after the hijacking.

He is currently fighting with the man who owns the lot next door (where he erected the building on the 35 acres). It seems they have been fighting for years. Ted thinks he can use anyone's property to land his plane. The neighbor says "no".

But, it is a very interesting story.

Just sit back, and think about the case, and what we have written here.

And ask yourself. What is the most logical answer to Cooper, his wealth, quitting his job? etc.

If I was an FBI agent (LOL) in the Portland area, I would at least contact you and your partner for some heavy questioning, confiscate the film from KOIN, and do some real investigating. I might talk to the retired agent  but after picking your brains - would really investigate. For the honor of the Bureau and all of that.

Will be watching Inside Edition for sure.

Edit to say, I wonder if the people who live there are laughing at him being called a respected member of the community?

Thanks for letting us know about Inside Edition. I'm not sure when that's on or what channel, but I'm writing myself a note to look for it as soon as I get home.

I tried to call my husband to see if he could set the TIVO for me, but he isn't home. Damn him, going to work when I need him at home! LOL

thanks Lorann

I agree.

The only thing about Inside Edition is that Mayfield accuses us of asking him to lie and tell everyone he is Cooper.

I am seriously considering suing him for libel. We have audio tapes of every conversation, and we never, ever, said anything like that.

Maybe we "spiked" his drink with acid, and he couldn't remember.LOL

On their website, they have a thing which tells you what station they are on in whatever city you live. You can look it up, or tell me the city, and I will look it up for you

No problem

thanks for the interest.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the case. I really hope the FBI at least brings him in for questioning. those poor flight attendants, and the pilot is still alive.

By the way, the pilot is friends with H-bach.

another thing. Law enforcement asks the public to help in cases like this one. At least 12 people called in Ted's name as a suspect, and nobody investigated him. And people wonder why the public doesn't want to get involved.

Ya, I find it hard to believe the people of Sheridan would elect someone to city council who they knew was a convicted armed robber, convicted for stealing an airplane, convicted for stealing electricity, convicted for flying without a license, convicted for two counts of manslaughter, and left off his resume the years he worked as a truck driver so that people would think he came from money.

Why? Because you can't put a truck driver on a resume, and then live on 40 acres, with planes, and no job. Even Mayfield knew that.

fyI- H-bach never made a trip to Sheridan since Ted moved there in late 1972. Never, ever.

Grrrr, I found the Inside Edition page, but it doesn't look like it is on in my area:

http://www.insideedition.com/wheretowatch/listings.aspx?state=MO

I'm in Jefferson City and locally we have CBS in JC and we have NBC and ABC out of Columbia, MO.

I'm sure it will be posted online somewhere..... it will just be a matter of finding it.
