I'm so glad that the girls made it through the night! They're still in critical condition but it gives me hope.

Both hospitals are well-regarded. I don't know much about Providence but Harborview is the goto place for airlifts. These kids are in good hands, being cared for by competent staff.

Thank you, doctors and nurses!!

I'm happy to hear it, too. The tweets and comments from last night were incorrect, thank heavens.

This community as a whole has been on my mind and in my heart since all this happened. So tragic, this entire community is in my prayers. How do you wrap your mind around the unfathomable? So hard for all involved.

This school shooting is so different from the others to me. Popular kid...on many sports teams...homecoming prince....

And yet, so troubled inside.

This is one of the few times that I grieve for the shooter AS WELL as all of the victims and families and the shooters' family. I can't put my finger on why my heart goes out to Jaylen too. I just feel so so awful for everyone involved. They are all sooooo very young.

You know when some cases just grab you? This one has grabbed me :(

I'm right there with you. He wasn't a loner, he was popular, part of what appears to be a very tight-knit community, and by all accounts just a great young man. Obviously, there were problems beginning as far back as June, maybe before then. I can't remember who stated that many mental illnesses begin "showing" around his age, so I believe (imo) that this is the case here. He just went from happy to heartbroken so fast and so frequently...

This case will haunt me, due to the "why?" and "what ifs?".

I truly believe mental illness had set in. Like you said, from most all accounts he was a wonderful young man and very well liked.

No real updates other than what you can find on friend's Twitters. Still doesn't sound really good- especially for the girls. So sad.

I read (no link) that he was a diabetic, which may have caused mood swings. Sorry. I don't subscribe to this idea. There are a lot of diabetics out there who behave in a normal fashion.

It seems like when a school shooting happens the things we hear the most are "loner", "kept to himself", "quiet". JF appears to be the complete opposite - a popular football player, homecoming court, socially active with a close group of friends, described as "happy". I didn't get a chance to see his FB or Instagram before they were pulled but it seems as if they portrayed him more as a "happy" kid then his Twitter profile did.

His FB is back!

I'm not buying into the mental illness just yet. Given he was a well rounded kid is it just a logical answer. I do wonder about his coping skills. In other words did he have any. He seemed to enjoy a life where perhaps things just came easy to him? Seems the break up with the girlfriend may have been what sent him spiraling. Why? Was he suffering from mental illness or a kid with absolutely no coping skills? Points I ponder.

It just feels like this was a group of young friends with a lot of relationship things between them- if he truly dated the one girl for two years before they broke up.. that's from the age of 12. Sure seems young to be dealing with issues of long-term relationships, etc.

Your first thoughts when a kid pulls a gun is that it comes from a place of anger or hatred. I'm thinking humiliation might be behind this. High school is so different to grade school and it seems he had been steady with one girl, SG, for junior high until recently - who is at another school. Then, from what I can glean from Twitter, another girl at his school(RJ) starts flirting with J and it escalates to the point that she has a pregnancy scare. Local MSM says this was 'about a girl'. I find it hard to imagine that 14-15 year olds are equipped with the emotional maturity to cope with such adult concepts and dilemmas, let alone the failure of distance relationships. There was also mention that a girl he had a crush on wouldn't date him, and he was crushed - I suspect this is a third girl.
Also in the media it says they were just ready to roll out funding for mental heath support in that area, for schools I think.
I was a bit put off by some of his peers openness about discussing marijuana use on social media, until I realised it is legal in Washington State.

It sure does. We all remember our first "love" and how it felt like the end of the world when it did end. Most folks have coping skills to work thru that "devastation". Cant say I was quite that young but I guess this is a different generation.
