It is 4:30 EST. I had to do the math too. A girl should not be forced to do math on her birthday, lol.

I agree with everything you said. Sometimes I think our world lacks common sense, there is no balance anymore. Helicopter parent and you have a fearful child who can't cope and make decisions on their own. Hands off parenting can create a child who doesn't understand danger, consequences, or basic life skills. It's frustrating to watch, speaking of that. Have any of you watched the reality show, Extreme Guide to Parenting on Bravo? Very, very disturbing and 60 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

And here, I have to respectfully disagree. Most people I know, and people I see around our community, balanced/are balanced in their parenting, supervising the young, slowly easing up on the supervision, and doling out more responsibility, over time....as the child grows.

Young girls around here are babysitting at 11 and 12. (My daughter included.) Which means they have parents that have at some point, taught them to be responsible, independent, good decision makers.) And she is/they are being hired as babysitters by people who know young children need supervision. Teenagers walk freely around my community. They drive. Get teenage jobs. Head off to college. Get first jobs. Buy houses. These are young adults that I knew as young kids who were closely supervised as six-year-olds.

It's the extremes that stick out in our minds and garner the most discussion. The 3 year old wandering the neighborhood in a man's shirt, letting herself into neighbor's houses. Or the other extreme, the 17 year-old who is afraid to go away to college because they've never spent One Single Night away from mom and dad.

My sons were not allowed to "roam the neighborhood" or woods at the age of 6! All grown up now, college graduates with successful careers. None of them lived with "mommy and daddy" in their 30's....or 20's. Painting with a broad brush all kids who weren't allowed to free roam at age 6 is silly.

amen sista

I'm not even sure how the term 'helicopter parenting' even came up in relation to discussing this six year-old child. I don't think it's possible to helicopter parent a child who may not have front teeth, may not be able to tie their shoes, still believes in Santa, may not know their phone number, and can not be left home alone when you go out for a few hours.

I imagine some free range mom said----lookie those mom's are hovering over their kids like a helicopter. ;)

I was PROUDLY A HOVERER. ;)

Did any of the documents we've seen say that GG's DNA was found on Jenise's body, or was it only stated that it was on the clothing found in the woods? I can't remember.

Warning Graphic

In the Probable Cause document it states that:

1. Jenise's blood was found in the crotch of her underwear, and the crotch of her shorts (which were found first, near where her body was later found.)

2. GG's semen was also found in the crotch of her underwear.

3. Autopsy showed she was sexually assaulted (vaginal tearing and genital trauma) before she was strangled and had her skull fractured multiple times.

The Probable Cause statement only mentions GG's semen DNA in reference to matching his voluntary cheek swab with the semen found in JW's underpants. I'm assuming that's because they had her underpants to test on the 4th. They didn't have her body to swab and test for DNA until the 7th (Autopsy not performed until the 8th). I'm pretty sure his semen was found vaginally during the autopsy, considering where her blood and his semen were found in her underpants. It just would have been a lab result that came in later, and considering what they'd already found, they knew they had sufficient probable cause for arrest without waiting for labs to come back on vaginal swabs from the autopsy.

I had someone tell me on FB that they had always thought I was a helicopter parent "until I let J wreck without me". There is so much wtf in that statement that I'm still not sure how to respond.

WTF is right! If that is on your own timeline, I'd delete without bothering to comment. It's a crass statement - get rid of it.
