The one this week has Michael J. Fox on the cover. I looked through the whole thing and did not see Joe's story, so it coincides exactly with what DDeb said. Maybe it will run this week or next.

I spoke with Kathy and the editor says they ran out of room in this edition. I sure hope they do not put Joe's story on the back burner, because this family really wants, and desperately needs to keep him in the spot light. Everybody say a prayer that this story comes out for the Pichler family!!!

Wonder if we could all send People mag. e-mails that we would like to see a story on Joe, maybe that would help.

Any word from Kathy on what is going on with the article?

I hadn't checked the thread for awhile and it is SO nice to hear that at least something is happening. It was wonderful to finally hear from Joe's mom. I sincerely apologize for ever questioning or doubting her because of her silence. Her sorrow jumped out of the screen and grabbed me around the throat. It is shocking how negligent the police have been and SO frustrating they will not accept help and that there will be no consequences for their lack of effort and compassion. How can a detective look at the mother who is full of grief and sorrow because she does not know where her son is and say "we're just at a loss' - period, end of story. You would think that at least ONE detective is compassion enough to care. I think they are so egotistical they refuse to even investigate for fear of failing and looking incompetent.

I am totally disgusted with the editor of the paper too. This family has lived in Bremerton for 25 yrs and the editor won't publish her letter about her missing son?
We should bombard this person with tons of emails expressing our disgust with their lack of sympathy, compassion, and inability to offer support to one of their community members when they need it most. After doing a search I come up with Kitsap Times - is that the local paper?

Would love to close the loop on the picture and the People magazine story...

for those of you following Joes case-some how I missed this, and there are some interesting tidbits of information here- At least as of this article, the Det in charge of Joe's case indicated that Joe's disappearance was not a suicide and there was no belief that it was. They have additional evidence from the vehicle that they are not releasing and at the time the Det was closely monitoring his only open missing person's case...including the MySpace traffic. There are quotes from his friend's as well...

Very interesting write up. Would love to see an update/follow up to this, was written in '06. Request maybe, ;).

Thanks for posting believe09...hinkey is leaning way to the right-as it has from day one with many. Some things are clearer now, some things, more a mystery.

I continue to pray for all involved and keep my mind open, watching for anything relating.

Just keep swimmin'.

The only thing I have a problem with is this SW is the one who alledgedly talked Joe into signing up for MS- He wasn't a fan, and her and her friends said some very unflattering things about Joe and teased him about his career. They made up derogitory nick names and allowed posts that would hurt his feeleings to be posted.

IMO, after much research, I do not believe that Joe posted/made that MS page about himself. I believe that this group of teens he hung out with made the unflatterring account. I am no expert, I am jusy strictly going by what a friend of the family told many of us, but I also pray Im wrong, and that these kids arent involved at all.

Enough of the high schoool actics- Its time to bring Joe home to his mother and family, regardless his condition.

A lot of us here at WS fell in love with Joe and sort of "adopted" him as our son, and have been thru the ups and downs in spirit with Kathy.

The Pichler family deserves nothing but the truth, as they are wonderful people and deserve to knw where their son and brother is. :blowkiss:

Well, I picked up the Dec 15th issue of People, with Kevin Federline and and his boys on the cover, and there is nothing about Joe in it. If this is the newest copy, then I guess they dropped the article about Joe, again?

What I found significant about the article was what the Detective stated and how it differs from some of the accounts we have been given by the family. There may just be a basic misunderstanding here, but in March 2006, BPD did not consider the case a suicide. It is stated boldly.

I used to post with a crew at Topix regarding this case and it fell by the way side for a number of reasons-one of the issues that was presented and discussed vigorously was the lack of posters around Bremerton regarding Joe. Specifically down at the docks where the ferry runs to Seattle, IIRC. There were ferry's that ran from 430am+ the morning that he disappeared; although he did not apparently board one using his own name, this was a possible point of exit from Bremerton. I found it intriguing that the docks had not been plastered with posters of Joe and would think even now it may be a good idea simply because any commuters or dock workers from the day of his disappearance might recognize him. Clearly, placing posters is not a task for LE, and perhaps some of the local sleuthers might be willing to print some and put some up there in order to jar some memories.

I am actually wondering now if Joe has contacted Bremerton PD and requested not to have his family contacted-I have not spoken with Bremerton in a while, and I do not know if they still consider the case to be open. Since Joe is an adult now, he can walk away from his life and he will not have broken any laws. I participated on one other case where this was what the missing person did, and the hands of the police were somewhat tied, although the detective did tell me why he closed the case.

Well, I'm sorry that Joe's story didn't make it to People magazine. But I'm glad that I didn't miss it. I go to the grocery store almost every day and even though the mags are right there at check out, I kept forgetting. I hope his story is put out there soon. Believe, do you really think that Joe just walked away? If so, what would his reasoning be? Especially to not contact his family? This whole case is hinky, but him just walking away without a word never really crossed my mind. Although, certainly anything is possible at this point.

I actually do not know BM-IIRC Kathy has a theory about her son's disappearance that does not include a voluntary walk away. I would have to check the old threads for the theory itself. But WPP does not make sense as everyone has pointed out, the police do not think it was a suicide so if foul play was what happened, what was the situation? I mean, respectfully speaking, I do not believe robbery was a motive because nothing of substance was missing. The few cards that were supposed to be missing could have been carried off by Joe himself considering how portable they were...Given that the last phone call by Joe expressed so much emotion-he was hysterical or crying IIRC, I do not know what to think but pray with the rest of you that he is safe somewhere...

I too don't think it was WPP or suicide. If he was murdered, I don't really think it was robbery either. Not just for some cards, no matter how valuable they may be, there were too many other valuables lying around. IDK, jealousy? What a stupid motive, but not an unheard of one.

Greetings,

I just got off the phone with Kathy. She said the picture posted is definately not Joe, and she wanted me to thank all of you for keeping his name out there.

The editor of people's magazine is not sure what's going on with Joe's article, but believes it may have something to do with the holidays and being backed up. This family has been looking so forward to the article being published, so you can just imagine the stress they are going through with each passing edition.

Some other time I will take the time to post a letter explaining how I met Kathy, and why I'm here posting, but for now I am going to share an email I received from her a few hours ago. She has no problem with me relaying messages to this board. Kathy cannot get caught up with posting, and defending her family. She is suffering terribly, and really appreciates all of you!!

Here's the letter.

Peace~Stay Safe

Deb

AHHHHHHHHHHGH! This is CRAP! This is the drama stuff that makes it SO much harder on families of missing. : (
The post below is from websleuths. These kind of people are the ones that make me crazy, and not give strangers case information. Drama is SO not needed.
Posters are not allowed at the Ferry terminal. Someone wrote somewhere that we (Joe's family) did not care enough to spend the money to make posters and put them up at the terminal. That person also said that they had some printed and put posters at the ferry themselves..... A LIE!!!
(Shawna even contacted the person who said they put posters up, the person then recanted what they had written, and denied writing it.)
We put them up all over town. We still put them up until we were told we couldn’t put them up anymore. LE said it was against the law and that we could put them up until someone complained. "SOMEONE" complained, and now we aren't allowed.

As for Joe getting on the ferry at 4:30, that did not happen. Joe did not willingly walk away from his life or his family. All I can say about that is that hopefully someone someday will actually force LE to work this case and actually investigate what happened, and where Joe is.

LE has told us that there is a warrant for Joe for an unpaid fine. (They advised us not to pay the fine so the warrant will stay active) They said that if Joe were to be arrested or "found" alive, that they would tell us. They also said that if Joe "did" run away, that there would not tell us where he was...... just that he was alive.
I don’t know why people won't listen when I say he did NOT run away. There's NO way! I'm sure in many cases that does happen, but it did not happen in this one..... I'm Joe's mom and I know him and what he's capable of more than anyone.

Ohhhh this is stressing me out bad. : (
I'm off to go clean the house......

Big hugs to you

Love,
Kathy

THIS IS THE POST KATHY IS REFERRING TO
