The real estate in that area (Tacoma) has boomed by 50-100% since 2014, so he may not have a lot of money, but he has an asset, (assuming he hasn't borrowed all the equity away), so he would have to pay one way or another.

I wonder what evidence they have found for them to believe it was a homicide. That's not at term they just throw out lightly without good reason, especially when there are family members holding onto every hope they have they she may still be alive.

If the perp dropped off her vehicle I wonder how he got back to his vehicle. Maybe there is more than one person involved. Unless he walked back, I guess.

It isn’t very far to a bus route or the train from where her car was found.

ETA - If the POI did hop onto public transportation there would be video at some point. And not knowing an exact time it would take a while to scan the video.

It’s reminding me of another young woman - her vehicle was found With a lot of blood evidence and they declared her deceased before they found her body- they must have this kind of evidence to make this declaration IMO

I may have missed something. Is there a video of him driving her car that morning or are you saying "IF" he is on video driving her car?
I’m still catching up but during the presser didn’t the sheriff say “since the car appeared overnight”!? If that is the case she didn’t drive to that spot more than likely. That was pretty slick the way he slid that in. JMO

From sheriff Ed Troyer:

Warning us that this will be a slow process, sounds like they are going to have to depend on forensics to solve this case. From this I am assuming no help from the POI and no urgency. Tells me that they must have good indication that she's not alive.

This case also reminds me of Karissa Fretwell and her 3 year old son Billy who were kidnapped and killed by the child's father. He was older and married to someone else. They disappeared after she talked to him about paying child support. It was video surveillance and cell phone data that played an important role in that case.

I'm sure in this case LE is working hard to find out exactly what happened to Kassanndra so that anyone involved will be held accountable.

With more national attention, could we see funds coming in for rewards for information, PI's etc?

Agreed. These men wiping out their indiscretions so their partner doesn’t find out is absolutely insane to me. Time and time again.
Imo it’s more than just the money for child support- it’s a loss of control, a realization that everything they have built their life around will crumble because of “this woman” and the baby. The realization that if partner finds out she will leave cuz he is in fact terrible scum that doesn’t deserve the life or love or loyalty he’s been receiving..
Not stopping to realize that they’re the 🤬🤬🤬 in the situation... some type of narcissism that leads them to believe even if for a moment that their curated life is more important than letting someone live. Disgusting. But yeah I see it as very layered, and in this case only one layer is money.

Crews spent the last two mornings searching for 33 y/o Kassandra Cantrell around Point Defiance Park in Tacoma after her phone pinged on Vashon Island. Yesterday, they searched the home of an ex boyfriend. The case is now being investigated as a homicide. The latest on #Q13FOX

"As for the ex-boyfriend:

“Well, obviously, we have people that are under the umbrella of interest and he is one of them, but we do not have him arrested or detained,” Troyer said. “He’s somebody that we need to track the evidence until it tells us that he’s involved, or the evidence tells us he’s not at fault. But at this point, it wouldn’t be prudent for us not to continue looking at him as a possibility in this case.”

Troyer says it is not clear whether the ex-boyfriend could be the father of Cantrell’s unborn baby, or who the father might be.

“We are working this case as if something nefarious happened, we’re working this as a homicide until something tells us different because this is not normal for her,” Troyer said. “She lives with her parents, she stays in touch with friends, so it was immediately suspicious when she went missing and didn’t make it to a doctor’s appointment.”

“When we found her car abandoned down by the railroad tracks and by the Sounder train, and with keys inside, then we knew we were on the right path, and so we’re continuing to work this until the evidence tells us something different, as a possible homicide,” he added."

Missing Parkland woman treated as homicide investigation, ex-boyfriend is person of interest

I hadn't read that her keys were found in her car.

Keys inside?! He left it in a shady area apparently, he must have wanted someone to steal it! Stripping a car is extremely lucrative and would help his situation a lot, thank god they found the car in time!

It’s rare when LE words it “homicide until we are proven otherwise” usually they keep it just as missing person until it’s CLEAR there has been a murder.
So giving it room to go back if they have to is strange.
The only thing I can think of is it’s for sure evident it’s a homicide specifically in that house or car and they don’t wanna spill ALL the beans at once. Moo

Regarding the keys left in the car...that makes me wonder if the person who left the car there was hoping it would get stolen and further muddy the waters surrounding her disappearance.

Edit to say: @Dre Our minds are thinking alike!

In “An American tragedy” by Theodore Dreiser, the plot is, essentially, like what you describe. Poor Roberta, a shop girl, drowns, because her lover is infatuated by a rich socialite and wants a different life. (Psychologically, the book is good).

But today, another element might be involved. People spend so much on substances, that their lives are really, paycheck to paycheck, they are irresponsible financially, and can not factor in additional expenditures, because they are barely meeting their obligations.

MOO, and maybe it is uninvolved in this case, but too often I see it becoming only money, because people spend too much on themselves, and spend in the most unproductive way.
