Investigators suspect foul play in search for missing Parkland woman

"We are treating this as a homicide investigation until something tells us differently," Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Ed Troyer said. "She is still missing under highly suspicious circumstances."

He said other searches were also being carried out in other parts of the county but he declined to identify where those searches were occurring. Troyer said the person of interest is someone "that they want to eliminate and clear or name him as a suspect" but he did not elaborate on that information.

Search warrant served in case of missing pregnant woman from Pierce County; FBI assisting

Cantrell, 33, drove away from her family's home in Parkland Tuesday morning. She was driving a white 2014 Mazda 3 sedan with the license plate AXV1638. Her car was found abandoned on East 25th Street in Tacoma - near the Tacoma Dome - a few days later.

Pierce County Sheriff's Office Detective Ed Troyer said investigators are treating her disappearance as a homicide unless they uncover evidence that proves otherwise. He said they're also working to confirm that Cantrell is pregnant. Troyer said Cantrell told her family she was pregnant but they're looking for documentation from a doctor.

Just heartbreaking for KC's mom. Just heartbreaking for her brother.

Regarding the verification that she is pregnant. The place that does the ultrasound, would they need a doctor to schedule that or can an individual schedule it? I don't see Kassanndra faking a pregnancy, jmo, especially with a bd that has made it clear he doesn't want kids. I think she was pregnant and wanted to have the baby - she probably was hopeful that he would change his mind and be an involved father. He saw it as a trap, nothing he wanted in life and he was facing long time financial obligations.

The family is *understandably* quiet on the Where is KC FB page but KCs brother did say he still hopes she's being held captive.

I haven’t watched the press conference a second time but the sheriff seemed to backtrack just a bit and say that the ex might become a person of interest, and is someone they definitely want to talk with. Possibly just not making it official just yet.

Some of his statements also gave me the impression that this is not a current ex, but an ex (officially) from some time ago.

He did mention they have investigative teams spread out across the county but did not mention another warrant.

All MO from watching his reactions during the presser.

#Breaking: authorities say they’re now treating Kassandra Cantrell case as homicide even though no body has been found. They say they are searching the home of Cantrell’s ex-boyfriend, who is believed to have had contact with her recently. Deputies say he IS a person of interest

Oh no! :( Devastating! So very heartbroken for her family!

Wow! We rarely get those kind of details from LE at this point in a case. Sadly, there is something leading them to say this is a homicide investigation :(

Yes, they must have found something significant early on in order to get a warrant so quickly. Maybe evidence in her car or from her cellphone communication?

I'm thinking his truck.

So, they executed a search warrant last night, the household left, and they found something and then called FBI who arrived for the search this morning.
In my mind this absolutely means they found something substantive in that residence to presume death and wanted the experts to come in and work with the evidence. moo!

I agree, there has to be some kind of evidence that found that makes them so confident this is a homicide case

Yes, but I think they also had something substantive before the search of the house, that would convince a judge to sign the search warrant.

Yes, I meant evidence for them to get warrants for the home and truck but I'm sure they found incriminating evidence today for them to call it a homicide investigation. I didn't think the truck was seized until today. It just seems things are moving along very quickly, which is a bad sign for the victim but hopefully means they will have a suspect soon. Imo

Exactly

Would her mothers account of the tumultuous relationship, plus phone pinging there plus the relative closeness of her car to the residence be enough?
