Yeah...the roof at Capital just fell all by itself last Christmas...no 2 ft of snow or anything...and I sure wasn't snowed in for all of winter break with 2 toddlers...that would be too cruel. :P
OT: I don't do well with snow and cold. We get 10 inches here and our world comes to a screeching halt! 2 feet would probably do us in for good. LOL

WHAT? Didn't they just REMODEL the capitol building???

Back to topic:

For the locals: Have any of you noticed the large piles of gravel or whatever at the north end of the park between the ball fields and the retirement apartments? Any idea how long they've been there?

The last time I went through McCleary (on the way to Shelton) it was dark so I didn't pay any attention. Sorry.

Not the Capital building. Capital High School (it's a school in Olympia)

Capital is Capital High School in Olympia...which recently got some additions and remodels...on Christmas morning the roof over the library fell in and school got canceled for an extra week.

The sky is noisy tonight...every time I hear another helicopter I want to jump up and run out to see if they look like they're doing something other than just flying over...I've heard 3-4 in the last hour.

  • #687
I have been listening to the scanner since I got here and haven't heard anything of interest yet. (It really doesn't mean much because I don't have a clue where these locations are they keep dispatching them to go. LOL)

Are the helicopters on a completely different frequency?

I'm kinda confused. Today when cyber talked to KK, it was said that they were still looking for a building and such to have a command center...

Some info on the woman from the Laura Recovery Center. She is from Oregon and her niece was taken in California some months ago. I think she said she is a volunteer here helping coordinate the search effort along with Kara. They are looking for a building or operations center here in McCleary. If anyone knows of one they can use, please let me know.

but the links to the craigslist stuff are all from the 19th....yesterday...

so either KK is NOT involved in that... or she gave out bad info...right?

Hi again Cajun, I read somewhere the space was donated to them on the 18th, Sat.

Is that the normal need for supplies to run a missing child center? It just seems like a pretty permanent operation with all of that.

Whatever they need, but I think of Haleigh's center and it hasn't helped find her at all. sometimese it wasn't even open. LE has 6 men working on the case full time I believe in Montesano. So what will this center do that can help find her besides make flyers?

LOL You left out the best part, Cyber!! This also means they are still interested in questioning KK! Very interesting!! Thanks~

ETA: I wonder if they happened to be there or if they were keeping tabs on her for some reason? Was she driving or walking? So does the FBI normally just stop a person on the street to shoot the breeze if he/she was the last person to see a missing child?!

KK was walking with her daughter. When I noticed them, they were just crossing third street and I could tell she was looking me over. As a matter of fact we pretty much kept eye contact until she got close. I sensed that she had something to say, not recognizing her right off. Then when she asked me if I was a blogger, I remembered her face from the newspaper and when she said her name, I couldn't believe it. It was interesting to talk to someone so close to the case in person. She seemed pretty genuine to me and was really cool about letting me ask her questions. I told her I was discussing the case on a forum with a lot of other people and that we were trying to clear up some speculation going on. That seemed to satisfy her curiosity about me and she opened up from there.

About the FBI, she said they did stop her to ask her some more questions. She did not elaborate and I did not press her for more info. My gut told me she didn't want to or couldn't discuss the conversation.

Thanks so much for keeping us up on that McCleary. Do you have a sense for their direction, like over Hwy 8 or up by Larson, maybe by the water tower?

How interesting that KK asked if you were a blogger! Were you wearing your WS Tshirt?

Isn't it fascinating she pegged you as a blogger? You could have been a reporter, a photographer, or a number of other things. I guess it must be well known now that WSers are doing a great job in McCleary!! :)

I am glad she seemed receptive to answering your questions and the impromptu interview. Was her daughter just standing there listening or did she add anything? (Speaking of her DD, did she look better rested than she did in JVK's photo? She looked exhausted then.)

Part of me is curious to go down there after it opens to see if the guy who was aggressively asking for donations at Bear Festival is volunteering...I haven't seen him handing out fliers or doing anything else except collect donations to "help pay her family's bills" without any good info as to where the money is going or how it's being controlled. I'd really like to find out who he is.

I live off 108...so they're somewhere on the north side of town...I just haven't managed to actually see one yet to see if it's just military training or whatever.

They told me that they had one lined up, but it fell through.

Also I should have mentioned this before, but KK said she had been stopped and talked to by the FBI just prior to encountering me. She actually pointed back across third street and I did see a guy standing outside a vehicle. Sorry I missed that. If that is true, then at least the FBI is still present and working in the area.

Was he in a black suit and giving you the dead-eye look? :innocent: WOW, that really brings the case down home and I am also thankful if the FBI are still there nosing around. Keeping an eagle eye on everything. They might be following her too. xox

No I wasn't Kimster. I just had on blue jeans and a dress shirt, but I think it was the camera that gave it away. I bought myself a nice little Kodak camera for my job last year. Also, I look like your typical  geek. lol

I forgot my main point as I am almost prostrate from heat exhaustion at this moment.

Anyway, the office seems like such a permanent thing. I don't want her to be missing like Haleigh has been for like 5 months now.

Why are helicopters searching at night (if that is what they are doing). Can something be seen at night that can't be seen during the day? Do they use night vision googles or something?

They may not be searching...they could be military copters doing training or transport between guard units, or they could be out doing fire patrols...it's just been more than I usually hear...but I could just be more sensative to stuff like that with everything that's going on around here.

Cyber mentioned KK said the spot next to Subway had fallen through and they were still looking.

Yes, it is normal for them to ask for some donated items to run those centers. However, I am a bit surprised to see them asking for a computer and bigger ticket items. Maybe it is SOP, but you would think a group coming in would have their own computers and some equipment to set up.

I do hope someone will make certain they get sufficient IDs on everyone who does donate something not only for their own records, but for LE's records. ;)

If nothing else, it will keep Lindsey's case in front of the public right there in McCleary. If they do organize volunteer searches and things like the one day garage sale...I don't have a problem with it. They do need to offer a reward for information and this could help spur the people with big bucks to help on that front. (I am actually shocked the family who owns the door company isn't offering a sizable reward. I find it in very poor taste when they are the largest employer in town.) It isn't the family doing it which was the problem with the HBC in Satsuma, Fl.
