WA - Major security incident at SeaTac Airport. All planes are grounded, Aug 2018

  • #401
I recently watched some stuff about the Texas university tower shooter. It's fascinating that he had a sort of weird insight into himself, seeking help but not returning for subsequent appointments, writing letters, requesting his brain be studied. And lo and behold he had a brain tumor. I'm not saying that happened here--of course I have no idea, it just makes me wonder. It's too bad there can't be an autopsy. The whole story is so sad. I'm so glad nobody else was physically hurt; one of my oldest friends and her family live in Gig Harbor, so it was scary in that sense as well.

‘Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose’ - Seattle crash pilot’s final conversation

“Just a broken guy, got a few screws loose, I guess. Never really knew it until now.”

It does sound like he only recently realized that something was wrong with him.

Since the body likely burned in the resulting fire, seems they won't be able to do an autopsy. So we will never know if he had brain damage. Family seems shocked so it would appear there were no warning signs.
I'm sure they will do an autopsy no matter what condition the remains are in.

Hard to say how burned the body is. Was he thrown clear during the crash? Was the plane fully fueled when he stole it? It may have been almost out of fuel when he crashed and the fire was minimal. JMO

From the images released, there was a pretty big fire after the plane crushed. My guess he is pretty much cremated at this point.

Maybe. What if he didn't have seat belts on and was thrown a good distance from the fire?

Looks like the Bombardier Dash 8 series of airplanes use wing fuel tanks.
The wing tanks store up to 3,160l of usable fuel and optional auxiliary tanks provide an additional 2,540l of fuel, giving a total fuel capacity of 5,700l. The Q300 aircraft is equipped with a Simmonds fuel monitoring system, gravity
filling points in the upper wing and a single pressure refuelling point in the starboard engine nacelle.

That means the wings containing the fuel could have sheared off during the crash allowing the cockpit section to travel away from the fire. This is just a guess on my part.

In that short video of his house, there is a picture of a woman in a military uniform. His mother maybe? Hers?

His mom and other family members are in the military.

I agree that this recent aircraft incident has exposed some very serious and troubling security vulnerability issues at airports across the nation.

In the coming days and weeks, I believe numerous questions will be raised and that hearings will be held on Capitol Hill regarding this aircraft incident.

I suspect that there probably will be some kind of a knee jerk federal legislation from Capitol Hill in reaction to this aircraft incident.

I do share the same concerns that other folks in this thread have as to whether other copy cat incidents will occur in the future that will end in a more tragic result.

“It is highly fragmented,” she said of the plane. “The wings are off, the fuselage is, I think, kind of positioned upside down.”

This is a formal speculation alert!!

As this marinates on this end I think the trigger was financial.

Carriers are not giving min wage employees travel all over the world

Pilots with seniority are not getting that any longer[[load factors are running in the high 80's

carriers had nothing to lose when load factors were running in the mid 40s until deregulation in 1976

that is 1950;s and 60's

it is a regional carrier - parent company alaska is not running segments to greece france britain

hypothetically they were successfully running a private enterprise

would be interesting to find out if all that travel was when they had the bakery

and they saved

savings were dwindling he loved to be adventerious

that was coming to end

speculation

he had a genetic component for depression

speculation

imo the promotion was a hopeful notion of more money

he was wildly bright--humor can mask increasing problems - he endeared the world with his humor on the last day of his existence -- years of a masquerade?? Most suicidal people don't apologize -- his use of the word disappoint ( to himself spouse parents?)

-- I thought the use of disappointment was stunning - kinda of reflective of self worth?

his especially a guy like me --comment was also self hating

i think an AA got the promotion that he might have been promised if he did well

he busted his butt off was betrayed by managment

his future was bleak

betrayal loss he stated he wanted management and was working to get a degree to get ahead

losses pile up

if he found out in the last couple of weeks they picked an AA he is raging

and stuck at minimum wage

hopeless

one thing he always wanted was to fly

the suddenness and humerus do you think they would make me a pilot ( he knew he could not land the plane said so and did not want )

his comment when he heard the ATC guy say he needs some help flying and his cute response i kinda know what I am doing ( competent in something) imo was telling

he was somewhat embarrassed about vomiting all over ( tone of voice)

moo

he effed em back he wrecked a 32 million dollar plane talk revenge

he was wildy bright he also knew getting away with this would result in headquarters having a rough two years trying to explain how a min wage employee was able to get airborne with one of their 32 million dollar planes

money is a lot to do with many negative things

money stressors cause marital conflict- spose was pretty homey by pics on her whatever where all the pics were -- lots of cooking - motherly nurturing he is 29 she might have wanted kids and he still wanted to roam

speculation of course

all of you folks into technology if would be if possible to find out the dates of all those pictures from all over

moo

travel of that magnitude requires time off - a min wage employee is not gettin weeks off to travel the world

kinda replaceable

I would vote when they had the bakery was the time frame of all the travel -- if it was them

moo
many of the photos are sharp as heck - the kind of ones the come in a picture frame

how many how them in it -- some the pictures all over the world are so crisp

they are professional post card s moo

dont know if family system was affluent and could finance some of that travel and that dried up (either money wise or conflict )

a story of loss failure disappointment hopelessness feeling of incompetence fear of losing spouse think his dream might have been to have a white picket fence with two kids 20 years ago he is 29 not happening male role provider both bright and creative making minimum wage at 29 schelping around bags in pouring rain not exactly a confidence builder was attempting to correct ( collage)

all speculation of course

She was rather stupid. "Are you sure he's not going to hit us?" As he clearly turned and is flying away.
But I can only imagine how intense that would have felt live. And scary.
Comes across to me like she was in fear for her life, & experiencing sheer, unadulterated panic. She was in that state where you have tunnel vision and only one thought occurs to you. I've been afraid for my life 3x, & once was in the SF earthquake. Tall bldg, 20th floor, like being on a boat. "Are we going down, are we going down" was what my coworkers & I said, & that was all, while we waited either to die, or for the rolling to stop. I think she felt the possibility that because the plane was so close, the pilot could or would turn it back around, do another loop right over their heads. MOO

They opened up a bakery for three years then it closed. Not doing well money wise? Hard to understand on a surface as to what this guy was so depressed/upset about. He was married, had a job (from wasn't fired, which is a trigger for many men who commit these type of acts).

Wow. So many people have way more than him and suffer from depression. It’s not as simple as it may seem from your above post.

So virtually anyone can snap like this guy did and potentially crash any sort of vehicle anywhere at anytime.

That's scary.

Did I say that? My response was to Jenny basically implying this guy had no reason to be depressed. Please refrain from taking my posts out of context, please and thanks.

the vulnerabities have been known for decades

Feb 3, 2017 - areas, and the means by which employees are screened at airports were shown to be a source of vulnerabilityto securing the aviation sector.

The vast majority of airport employees with direct access to the tarmac and airplanes do not go through any daily security screening, and only two of the country's major airports have systems in place that require all employees with secure access to pass through metal detectors,

Wow. I'm sorry.

I just thought that depression can effect many people who could do similar things as in this case.

Well no, you said “virtually anyone can snap like this guy did” which isn’t at all what my post was referring to, and your most recent post seems to have backtracked on your previous comment.

Depression isn’t one size fits all.

Good questions about the traveling. Even with a successful small business, it would be hard to have both the time and money to travel a lot. It does look like they did some of the the traveling while they owned the bakery.

5 reasons you should work for Alaska Airlines

Travel is mentioned as benefit 5 to work for Alaska/Horizon.

Employees and dependents have free unlimited standby travel as a benefit. They can also receive discounts on other airlines that fly different routes.

The variation in quality of the travel photos could be from using different cameras or even taking cell phone photos on some trips.

‘Suicidal’ mechanic steals plane from Seattle airport

I am very disappointed in my NTSb (recorderS)to not put out something as it relates to finding evaluating the likelihood of them having a chance to be read out or not being found yet

I know it is sunday but they were out there all day yesterday

there rated for like 2500 degrees for 3 hours or so

there was stuff still smoldering this am

i want to see pics of crash site -- if the wings are far apart for some of the main stuff it means they came off in air -- structural failure from loads ) another attempted flip ??

boy - if they are not readable so many more mysteries
