Mr. [deleted],

Thank you for your tip and support of NamUs. I will make sure that if this comparison has not already been addressed, it will be sent to the appropriate agencies for further investigation.

Support from the public is a powerful part of NamUs; thank you for taking the time to help us in our attempt to resolve these important cases.

bumping this up... still no rule outs listed on NamUs profile

It looks like the profile was updated 3/6/12. It says mtDNA and nucDNA are available so that would rule out anyone that has dna listed in their profile right? It still does not list any rule-outs though.

It would only if the nucDNA and mtDNA profiles are in CODIS. Sometimes, that is not the case. However, in this instance, it does indicate that the profiles are at UNTCHI and the "full STR and mtDNA profiles at national CODIS".

Thanks. Is there a way for us to confirm that a MP's dna is in CODIS or do we have to contact LE to find out?

You can tell alot about ethnicity from the shape of a skull, and even the shapes of the teeth. Asians and Native Americans tend to have a scooped out surface at the posterior side of their upper front incisors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shovel-shaped_incisors

So I am guessing that the girl had a caucasian type skull shape, and shovel-shaped incisors.

This is somewhat off-topic, but related to pg. 1 of this thread... so is it true that shovel-shaped incisors aren't the norm for everybody?? None of you have teeth like that?

I ask because I'm caucasian and I have shovel-shaped incisors. And there is NO native/asian blood in my family---they are all European-descended.

I'm just questioning the validity of using that specific tooth description to classify asian/native lineage...

No single characteristic by itself determines ethnicity. The various characteristics are considered collectively to determine a likely ancestry.

If someone was to look at your skull, you might have shovel-shaped incisors, but you probably have a preponderance of other characteristics that would indicate your Caucasian lineage. Your maxilla probably doesn't project forward, as do those of most blacks, and your nasal bone probably projects more forwardly than your cheekbones (unlike most Asians and Native Americans).

The orbits (i.e., eye sockets) of Caucasians have a different shape than those of Asians or Blacks (which have a more circular and rectangular shape, respectively). Also, the nasal aperture (i.e., the hole in the skull behind the nose) is typically narrower and more pointy at the top than those of Blacks and Asians.

Aha. That definitely cleared it up. And you were nice enough not to say "DUHHHHH!!!" at the end ;-) haha

Thanks CarlK

Last night I was watching Forensic Files on the Investigation Discovery Channel. They were profiling the case of the 1996 murder of 9-year old Cyndi Allinger of Lakewood Washington.

Midway through the program, the detective was discussing the case in his office, and on the wall, there was a poster showing the Morton Jane Doe. On the poster, next to the facial reconstruction drawing was a photo of the Jane Doe's teeth.

Using my i-phone camera, I photographed the teeth on my TV screen.

Her two upper-front teeth (8 & 9) are very distinctive. It looks like the right (#8) slightly crosses over the left (#9), much like the 1979 Rancho Cucamonga Jane Doe.

I ran a screen again and came up with about 360 missing women from the five years prior, and of those who were showing their teeth, none of them had similar teeth to this Jane Doe.

Her teeth look pretty straight compared to the Jane Doe's teeth in the photo I posted above.

Thanks Carl. I was having a hard time clearly seeing Matea's two front teeth!

Samantha Sue Hicks is mentioned in that article.

Photo

I downloaded the photo and zoomed way in. It is hard to tell, given the resolution of the photo, if SH's teeth are similar to the UID dental photo that Carl posted above. However, I would say it is a definite possibility. You can see how the upper front left tooth seems to cross slightly behind the one on the right. Does not seem as obvious as in Carl's photo, but I am no expert.
