I think a factor for me is TD had extensive military SURVIVAL training. Unless his mental state overcome him I am concerned he has survived.

Personally I don't think he was in the mindset to plan his escape. I think his body will be found within 5 km of the girls

very slight resemblance to me. As in... both are male, both have some tatts (as do a lot of males) and both have brown facial hair. That's how many men on this planet? LOL And his facial hair doesn't grown in the same pattern IMO. I'm just glad that he didn't end up on the wrong end of a vigilante hunt.

Unless he decided to expire up a tree or down a crevice (if any exist, idk cuz idk the area at all) or in Icicle Creek or other body of water. I thought they'd only just started searching Icicle Creek so he might still be found there?

There are literally millions of trees there IMO, and I've have to imagine there are crevices galore. All MOO. All one needs to do is look at a map of the area to see trees.

@Gemmie I know there are trees there! I'm not sure about crevices so before somebody local popped up to say "No crevices there" I thought I'd add that about not being sure.

Though there was somebody trained in SAR who wrote somewhere on this thread that part of the training is to look up and look back, probably down at your feet too, I can't remember exactly.

I'm interested to see if anything turns up in Icicle Creek because iirc they haven't been able to search till recently, they had to wait for the water to go down after spring rush.

The only other possibility I've seen mentioned on SM by back country experts, with experience in that area, vis a vis places to hide or die, are old deep mines. That said, I think I saw mention by LE that they had 'checked' the mines.

It shocks me how many times a body is undiscovered after many searches, dogs etc. only to be found months, and sometimes years later, close to their last known location.

Yes, and it's terrible for the victims of crimes perpetrated by these types. I'd hate to have to keep looking over my shoulder and I would desperately need answers if I were WD.

@FromGermany1 Bringing up a response I got earlier on the thread on the likelihood of him being found in a tree BBM

If its a certified SAR person its instilled in our brains to not only look up, but also to stop and turn around.

I know early on I had read that a scent trail had been picked up by a K9 but the trail went cold... One thing I could never find when searching but I would like to know if the K9 that picked up the trail was a scent specific K9.

They are also utilizing HRD K9s now. But I have no clue how many K9s have been deployed or how much area was actually covered.

I know the information will not be released to the public but I would love to see the mapping of areas searched by certified personnel.

So they are trained to look up + stop and turn around (you see things differently going in the other direction or simply looking backwards). Maybe it's just a wild rumour that SAR miss people in trees more than on the ground?

I'm hoping for TD being found deceased in Icicle Creek tbh, which couldn't be searched right away due to high waterflow (spring run-off) afaik.

So odds are now he's deceased. However, no hits by c dogs. Nothing. Just can't shake the feeling with his survival training he's still alive, maybe nowhere near where there were/are searches.

Also think military survival specialists should have been initially involved in the searches. They definitely would have had much to offer that LE would not have had. I do understand liability in such situations, which is why non-involvement. But...

According to this article https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/07/us/travis-decker-summer-search-cascades teams have been deployed to Icicle Creek for at least a week and before that there were helicopters and drones searching the Creek. Now for at least a week actual teams can go into the water or on the riverbank, also with the creek having gone down, there's more riverbank exposed.

Note that there's quite a bit in the article that is already known, like the Sawtooth search, but I haven't seen so much on the Icicle Creek search yet.
