I have little doubt he is lying about some things, but only so far as to save his own skin in this as much as possible as my opinion is he was into this much more than he wishes to admit now. But I do believe that Capone killed Rachael which is the key thing the jury needs to believe.
Whether it happened precisely as stated, maybe not. Can you please remind me of when/where cadaver dogs were used on the Yukon? I can't recall that from media after 4+ long years, or was that info from the family?
They did find a piece of black glove in the Yukon with Charles' and Rachael's DNA on it. As well as her purse and phone. The piece of paper with blood on it looked to me like pretty much letter-size white bond (from a news video posted during the trial, probably KLEW or KREM) with a few blood stains on it, maybe fingerprints? Not tiny spots. Don't recall they tested that paper beyond "human" but could be just enough stuff in there for a dog to hit it.
Testimony today that maybe it was under the seat and that's why Capone missed it when they cleaned out the Yukon.
RE: where it was parked. Not sure it matters, as that could be a memory issue on Stone's part as to precisely where at the DynaMart Capone parked it. Eyewitness testimony can stink, and even if he was not fearful of Capone at that moment, anybody with HALF a conscience or at least fear of being caught is not real likely to get every detail correct in the heat of the moment, and after dark.
OR, Capone may have driven back down there later, taken the Yukon to wash it and then bring back and reparked in slightly different spot. Wasn't recovered until the following Wednesday after all.
I do recall when it was hauled away, several people remarked at how darn sparkling clean it appeared to be. Doesn't sound like Rachael would have washed it before heading up to Moscow to get her own car back.
But again, just details that I don't think relate to whether Capone killed Rachael or not, and hope the jury doesn't decide he made up absolutely everything about that night. That would mean that Stone, and Stone alone killed Rachael. Can't see a thinking jury getting to that.
Covering his butt for his part…the question is how much?
Friends close and enemies closer? Maybe. But to take your family to dinner with a guy you suddenly don't consider your friend (having just witness him killing his wife) AND let your teenaged step-daughter into a vehicle alone with him?
No way I can make any sense of that from his testimony. Not as in fear as he'd like us to believe. Common sense.
So did they really throw Rachael off the bridge stated, or another one, or buried somewhere in many hundreds of square miles of Palouse? Maybe, just maybe Stone thinks he can get both himself AND Capone off, because after all, "no body, no murder"???
Tweets today indicate spectators and media are growing very weary of the line-by-line "you are a liar" cross exam and exiting the courtroom. I think the defense has made all the points they can by now. Dude is a liar, BUT what reason would he have to make up a lie that Rachael is deceased and Capone is responsible?
And that is pretty much what it comes down to. Jury won't throw out his testimony completely if they have any sense unless instructed at the last minute by the judge to disregard every word of it.
Longest, most uninterrupted Stone testimony posted yet by the media. From yesterday.
