"She originally had an overnight bag it was found not in car."
I have a thought - maybe the words [found & not] were inadvertently switched. I haven't seen it discussed anywhere and my guess is if this were true, we would be hearing much more about it. moo
Switching the words seems like a good possibility. According to the Seattle Times, No one was found in the abandoned car. A wallet was inside, but Smiley's purse was gone. Chamberlain said if the woman and her son had packed an overnight bag for their trip, that luggage also was gone.
And this from ABC news, Investigators found Smiley's wallet, ID card and credit card in the van, but no purse. There were also no overnight bags in the van, despite the fact that Smiley and her son were planning to go away for the weekend.
