DNA found under victim’s fingernails in August assault leads to suspect’s arrest in Tukwila

King County sheriff’s detectives say they have made an arrest in the case of a 16-year-old girl who fought off a would-be rapist in August, scratching and kicking him and wiggling out of her sweatshirt in order to get away.

Skin later found under her fingernails was matched to the DNA profile of Kevin Perkins, a 52-year-old felon who was last released from prison in May 2014, according to court records and the state Department of Corrections. Perkins’ last known address is in Federal Way.

Last week, King County prosecutors charged Perkins with attempted first-degree kidnapping and a $500,000 warrant was issued for his arrest, court records show. He was arrested Thursday afternoon in Tukwila and was to be booked into the King County Jail, according to sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Ryan Abbott. He said the U.S. Marshals Service helped locate Perkins but couldn’t immediately provide more details of the arrest.

So glad this teen was able to get away, but the horror will no doubt linger in her young mind for awhile, not to mention the pain from the repeated blows this 52 year old man allegedly inflicted on a 16 year old girl!
Hoping and assuming she did not get in trouble with her mom after all.
This guy is a bust , he is no good, will never be good and should never be let loose in civilized society again. imo, speculation.

"Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Nicole L. Weston described the incident in charging papers filed Sept. 28.

“The defendant attempted to kidnap a 16-year-old girl off a neighborhood street,” Weston wrote. “The defendant repeatedly struck the victim, choked her and threw her into the vehicle he appeared to be associated with. The defendant then attempted to remove the victim’s pants. The victim fought back and was able to scream, kick, scratch and knock the defendant down and escape.”

"Detectives were able to match the DNA through the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). Perkins was in the system because of a lengthy criminal history."

"Deputies tracked down ear buds, a shoe and sweatshirt that belonged to the girl. She lost the items when she struggled with Perkins, losing the sweatshirt and shoe as she fled his grasp."

"After the girl got away, she tried to stop three vehicles for help, but they would not stop. She then went to the middle of the road and a fourth vehicle stopped for her. The girl told the woman and man in the car what had happened and that she wanted to go to her friend’s house because she was afraid her mother would scream at her if she went home."

She perceived the danger and tried to avoid the man in the first place. In incidents involving a child and an adult, children often think they are at fault. Predators use this perception to their advantage.

Am so glad the predator was caught before he could target other children. This 16-year-old is a heroine because she did the right thing in fighting off her assailant, including scratching him. It was this action that enabled authorities to catch Perkins, which will (hopefully) prevent him from ever harming another child.

One would hope her mother wouldn't be mad at her. However, I know from unfortunate personal experience that moms don't always react the way they probably should.

I'm sorry for your personal experience in which your mother blamed you for something that wasn't your fault. I hope it wasn't the case with this girl. But, I do understand it's difficult for children to know how a parent will react.

My mother (also, my dad when he lived with us) was very strict and I always feared making her angry. One time when I was in senior high school waiting at the neighborhood bus stop on a busy street (and for some reason, waiting alone on that day), an unknown man in a car pulled over and offered me a ride. I said, "no thank," keeping my distance, and he drove away. I didn't tell my mother about the incident, feeling it was better she didn't know. Sometime later I did tell her and she was angry I hadn't told her at the time. So, I don't know what her reaction really would have been had I told her of the incident when it happened.

This poor young girl, must have nightmares. MOO.
Imagine what she went through.
Thank goodness, she didn't freeze.
Now this Creep, will have no answers.
