I understand what some of you are saying about putting your toddlers in the sink or on the counter if they were messy. But that's not something I ever would have done with my kids past the age of 6 months because I would be more worried about them falling from the sink or counter.

Also, our kitchen water temperature was pretty hot, and even after my kids were old enough to stand on a chair at the sink, I supervised because they could burn themselves.

One more thing that comes to mind: people keep sharp things around the sink such as knives and utensils. Not really a place I'd want my kids to play, but we know Julia has strange ideas.

I also think of broken glass from dishes, or windows where they might also fall out.

In fact, reading all these posts has given me the scary thought that perhaps Sky fell from the sink or some other place, or was scalded, or was somehow hurt and the kidnapping thing was a cover-up for that (I think it is a cover-up no matter what happened, but oh well...)

Maybe he was left alone and climbed up there by himself, or even had help from the sister, since that was the only reality they knew? Maybe they believed they had to eat in the sink or they would get into trouble? That just opens up all kinds of scary scenarios in my mind.

ETA: And seriously :cow: I don't think it's normal to feed kids in a sink. I think of my sink as a dirty place full of bacteria, actually, especially the drain. I always let my kids eat watermelon at the table since that's why they invented paper towels, in my opinion.

Lol, that's why they invented TABLES! Sad...

I don't know if this link has been posted yet (forgive me if it has...). It has about 15 pictures of Sky and JB (mostly of her though). Some look to be from surveillance cameras at a grocery store or something. Are those recent pictures of her, or are they from right before Sky went missing? It would be nice to know what store she is in :) It would narrow down search areas.

Welcome and thanks! While I have seen most of the photos on other sites, there was one I hadn't seen before (the one where Sky is in a swing at dusk). The look on his face in that photo is unsettling -- I just want to pick him up and make him smile.

And Julia is no stranger to paper towels. In addition to that photo of M sitting on the floor with the big bowl of cereal on top of an area-rug-sized strip of paper towels, you can also see paper towels laid out to cover the top of the stove and the countertop adjacent in the watermelon photo.

and high chairs, and high chair floor mats, and high chair aprons, and bibs and place mats.

I agree with the previous poster (sorry forgot who) regarding how filthy and full of bacteria sink drains can be. I could never imagine feeding my child in a sink. ick! Just the thought of sewer gas and drain flies, no thanks on feeding children in the sink.

JB's photos do possibly backup SM's claims of her being OCD on cleanliness, but they also show(ed) plenty of food in the kitchen, and pictures of both children eating (which go against SM's claims). There also were pics of the kids eating in their carseats in the car, something that many parents without ocd don't allow (food in the car). Her ocd may have been limited to the home, but i was still surprised to see the kids eating cookies (or something similar) in their carseats.

I think many of the pics were taken (months ago) specifically by JB, and posted publicly, to prove that the children were eating. If they were staged and "planted" then I just think it's important that be kept in mind when evaluating their value, both for and against any point of view.

Thank you for posting these, I missed them the first time around. I'm sure that these have been discussed in detail but I can't get over not just how thrown together she looks, but how upset she looks also. In the third picture (I think she is at a bank teller window) she almost looks like she is crying. Then, in the 5th picture, she looks so angry. I can't understand how she can be walking around shopping in several different places looking so angry and/ or upset about something. Of course, I could be totally misinterpreting her expressions but that's really how it looks to me.

I'm reading all these concerns about the sink. Good grief! My mother bathed us in the sink, probably fed us watermelon and canteloupe there too, she did the same with my DD when we came over for Holidays. Obviously when we got too big for the sink that plan was out.

I did not see any pics of eating on the floor with paper underneath, but thought I saw that mentioned. Some cultures do this every day. I had a group of friends from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan that put down newspaper then aluminum foil before dumping the food onto that foil and sitting down to eat, with their hands. (The food was all cooked in one pot, in layers. Yummy!) It is the way they eat, just that simple. I thought of it as quite fascinating and thoroughly enjoyed a meal with them one time in that tradition, then invited them to my place for a dinner in my style.

So to each his own on bathing and eating I say. Let us embrace diversity.

It seems clear the children do eat, they looked healthy.

The pic of M in Costco - she's clearly eating.

But that pic of the fruit in the kitchen, and M sitting on the paper towels with the serving bowl of cereal in front of her - were staged and then the food was removed after the pic was taken. I don't think M is actually eating that cereal - the spoon is dry, there's no food drippings anywhere or on her face. I think after that pic was snapped, she was removed from that pallet of paper towels and fed somewhere else besides in the house.

But how about collecting the behaviours as a whole? I think GITANA summed it up for me when posting:

No, there's nothing sinister about feeding a messy kid in the sink or vacuuming two times a day or getting a noise complaint for vacuuming at 11:30 at night, or propping up stripped mattresses against the wall, in a bedroom, such that the floor is completely clear, or feeding a four year old on a carefully laid out platform of mats and paper towels in the middle of a living room completely devoid of furniture, and giving that four year old a spill proof baby bottle to drink out of, etc. etc..

But none of those things is the norm and each of those backs up precisely, Solomon's allegations about Julia's severe OCD, to the point that she may have been too sick to properly care for her kids.

If we look at each behaviour individually - I'm sure there's no problem. But combine them and you start to see the entire picture. None of those things are the norm, and collectively are entirely dysfunctional, IMHO.

Thank you Gitana!

Mel

ETA: While it may be absolutely fine to bathe a child in a sink -- I'd be hard pressed to find any mother who would say they fed their 2 year old walking talking toddler in the sink as well. MOO.

Thanks ~ I had forgotten that.

You know, paper towels on top of the stove aren't really a good idea either. But what do I know? I'm one of the weirdos who uses a high chair and a baby tub instead of a sink.

That's great news :) It will get the news about his disappearance made more public to those outside of the Bellevue/Washington area. Maybe by some chance, Sky is another state, safe with someone. I'm holding my breath on that one though.

I also don't see a problem with feeding a messy kid in the sink or having a 4 y/o drinking from a sippy cup. But if you add that to the fact that she cleans 6-7 hours a day, has her kids sleeping on the floor in the living room (when they have their own beds), has little to no furniture in the rooms, etc etc, it points to JB's OCD coming into play. That's really no environment for kids to grow up in.

Investigators have found 'items of interest' in the disappearance of Sky

Oh, I wonder what these items could be and if they will be useful in finding out just what happened to Sky!

America’s Most Wanted is planning to air a special on missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala.

Bellevue Police Lt Marcia Harnden says they have been told the AMW piece will air December 1st.

Sky was reported missing by his mother earlier this month in Bellevue after she said she...more left him alone in her car on the side of the road after running out of gas.

I think AMW has a worldwide audience and I'm so glad Sky is being featured. I know the chances of finding him in another country (if he was secreted or kidnapped) are slim but one never knows!!!!

I'm always so surprised by how effective AMW is at getting good tips. They seem to reach a population of Americans who are unaware of news when it airs through mainstream media.

I always will remember that AMW is how Elizabeth Smart was found..ya never know the tips that could come in from this could solve this case. I think they reach more folks and usually with the correct info.

FWIW, her 4 yr old was not drinking from a sippy cup. She had a bottle with a nipple, the same style nipple used for babies. This was not even a sippy cup. Using a baby bottle for a 4 year old can lead to not only tooth decay problems, but speech impediments as well, as children need to chew in order to develop the muscles necessary for speech.

I second that! :woohoo:

I'm so glad Sky's case will be featured on America's Most Wanted!
They are tremendous with obtaining leads and helping solve cases.

Thank you AMW! And praying this leads to finding Sky!

:praying:
