In the previous thread, there was some discussion about JB maybe having changed the dates on the photos from grandpa's visit. Based on what a morning show host was wearing, visible on the hotel TV in the background of one of the photos, some of us concluded that the photo was actually taken at the end of April (video was found of the host wearing the identical outfit on a late April show) instead of March. Turns out we were wrong.

I just came across one of Hambirg's old posts where she was going through the Flickr account, back when it was still public, and noting the dates of uploads.

hambirg said:
we have pics from Feb, March and April when her Dad visited uploaded 4/3

I don't think there's a way to change the Flickr upload date so it stands to reason that the photos from grandpa's visit were all taken prior to April 3rd. I guess the host of that show must have worn the same outfit twice in 4 weeks!

Hambirg also pointed out that the photos taken on June 15, 2011 were not uploaded until September, despite JB adding older photos of herself in July and August (those weren't uploaded from a camera).

This makes me think that JB was borrowing someone else's camera (my guess is SJ's). She probably borrowed it for special occasions (birthday parties, relatives visiting) and made a point of uploading the photos immediately so she could return it. For the June 15 photos, the stylist who cut M's hair confirmed M, Sky and SJ were present at the salon (no mention of JB). SJ may not have given JB the camera (or a copy of the photos) until a later date which could explain the delay in uploading. I wonder if SJ has any photos of Sky on her camera taken after June 15th.

ETA: SJ's daughter's graduation was on June 21st so I can see SJ wanting to keep her camera handy.

Solomon also believes his son is still alive so must be just he and I then. No theory is illogical. LE doesn't always tell the public everything as we've seen many times following these cases.

I've been shocked many times believing it was a parent and then turned out to be a complete stranger.......so...........

We've had some miraculous recoveries of missing children so I'm not about to give up hope on Sky.

If Sky was my little boy, I would refuse to entertain the notion that he's dead either. Solomon can't go there or he'd probably lose his mind. In fact, I think counselors in such cases advise the family to concentrate on finding their child, not thinking of the what ifs.

But the deep love of a parent is not usually based in logic. And LE seems to believe Sky is very close. Their searches of brush and waterways indicates what they believe his status to be.

I personally think that the motive was purely financial. If she could get rid of Sky somehow and keep him away from Solomon, that would mean she would get child support for 2. She wasn't about to get rid of little M. She adored her. The catalyst was most likely the end of her maintenance support checks every month. When did the maintenance checks stop?

ETA: That's why she dug her heels in for 11 plus hours at the mediation and then reneged. She wanted full custody with no visitation.

I think Rougelatete posted the exact dates of when maintenance stopped.

I am so impressed with all the dedicated work of you Sleuthers!
I so want to see news of Sky being found.
Thank you, Search and Seek, for being our liaison!

According to what SM said during the websleuths radio show, her maintenance payments stopped in Oct.

I am joining this thread late, so excuse me if I am bringing up things already discussed.

Was it ruled out that Sky did NOT return to the Ukraine with his grandfather, based on the timeline? Was this solely based on the timestamp on the haircut pictures?

Hiding Sky in the Ukraine with the grandfather seemed like the most plausible explanation, and seemed to fit in with the "Sugar Daddy" website-- mom was trying to get additional money to leave the country herself.

The grandfather visited and returned to the Ukraine in April 2011 (IIRC). The haircut photo happened well after he left the states to return home, June 2011. LE has stated they believe Sky is "in their backyard" which indicates that they have found no evidence relevant to the fact that Sky could have been taken out of the country.

It would be interesting to see her checkbook and see how much money was spent on food in recent months.

In addition to food, it would be informative to see what other items she spent money on ...what her priorities are, etc.

She's been in US since she were a child. It's very much unlikely she wanted to leave the country. There is also no reason for her to hide one child, while leaving the daughter with her.

Is there proof that no one else (grandfather, family friends, etc) came back into the country since April?

I can see her having someone take Sky out of the country first - as he was 'much more work' to take care of, J wouldn't miss him like she would M, etc PLUS - it would be IMPOSSIBLE to fudge BOTH kids 'disappearing' -- but with M still with her - she could do (as some here have proposed she did the day they found her car) to 'have Sky in a blanket' --- yet he wasn't really there at all. KWIM? She may have thought she could keep M 'in the dark' about Sky not really being there? Maybe that didn't play out to well.... so....

If someone took Sky out of the country days or maybe a week before he 'went missing' -- J might have been able to 'fudge it' with M. Maybe after a few days, however, M started to ask questions and J was afraid M was starting to put 2+2 together that Sky wasn't really 'sleeping' or whatever she was telling her....maybe M really started to miss her little brother and so J had to find a way to make it appear he'd been kidnapped/abducted because she started to get paranoid that M was going to say something in front of someone?

Just another theory ^^^^^

On a different note....
I do hope they have J under heavy surveillance in EVERY possible way.....

Has anyone SEEN or HEARD from her recently? Why isn't SOMEONE in MSM trying to follow up on her? Is she even still alive? I would think, based on her past mental records, that she would be a high risk for suicidal behavior under these circumstances? (her son disappeared, she lost custody of her daughter, and her spousal support stopped - so money must be extremely tight right now etc)
(Hope I painted that out clearly)

Very few of your questions can be answered Hoppy simply because LE hasn't answered them. First off, I feel relatively certain, considering that not only Julia but also Solomon, are both foreigners, that LE has already crossed Sky being out of the country off of their list. They have stated they believe Sky is in "their backyard." There have been no official updates from LE regarding the case so much is still unknown at this point other than what Solomon and Mr. Terry have shared with us.

As far as Julia is concerned, rumor has it that she is staying with her brother. However, again, this is unverified information. The last time LE spoke of this, they knew her location but they didn't say anything about surveillance but of course we all know that if she is the focus of the case, they know every move she has made.

An update from LE would be very nice in this case but thankfully we have Search and Seek who is able to relay information regarding searches, etc. to us in addition to WS having a good working relationship with Solomon and Clay Terry. Perhaps they will join Tricia again on the radio program one of these days and we can get a few more of these questions answered.

I don't believe JB was worried about M not seeing Sky at all. M is only 4 and children of that age are easily influenced. SM was demanding visitations and JB had to realize that eventually she would have to produce Sky for SM to see.

I was thinking today about the silence from JB's friends and family. Are they somehow involved with hiding Sky away? The more I think about that, the more I think no. For a lack of a better word, they all seem like good people. . .active in their children's lives, community and church. I wonder if they haven't been asked by LE to keep mum. . .in hopes that JB will think they are being loyal and possibly confide something in them. . .or slip up. Idk. . .was just pondering that though.

I suspect some are also afraid of her or are afraid of her committing suicide, given the precarious and stressful state she is in (I think she is at high risk for suicide, given what we know). I think some have also been trained over the years to enable JB and that is a difficult pattern to break.

I doubt others are involved -- even in a cover-up. I think, if that were the case, they would have "broken" by now and said where Sky is. I think JB is a sociopath (strictly MOO), however, and is more capable of holding onto dirty little secrets so long as doing so serves her own self-interest.

I don't know about all airlines, but I was curious and browsing on United Airlines website just now. It states that for international travel, a child must be issued a ticket, regardless of age. Parents may be asked to show proof of age for the child.

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6867,1051,00.html

Does this mean the police have most likely ruled out Sky leaving the country because he would have had a ticket issued in his name, and whoever took him on the plane may have had to show his birth certificate?

Doesn't seem like someone can whisk away a child to a foreign country without leaving a trail behind.

It appears she doesn't have many friends, and of her family here in US she has mother and brother (I presume it's clear neither mother or brother have the child or would want to keep the child).
I think the chances that she gave the child to someone for whatever reason are slim to none. I am still not sure why police couldn't charge her with child neglect, at least in connection to M (apparently she left M alone during mediation, and M was reportedly 29 pounds when recovered-isn't that enough for neglect charges?). Maybe if she were put in a jail cell with cleaning supplies out of reach she would talk.

This is what I keep thinking as well. Lock her up and throw away the darn key already. Get her off the streets. It burns my goose to know she is out there free as a bird and doing whatever she wants to do which apparently is any and everything she can not to help find Sky!

Where is he?????

A special carpeted jail cell with vacuum cleaner just out of reach.
:floorlaugh:
Seriously, though, why can't police charge her with neglect? I don't see what they accomplished so far, considering they appear to have no clue where the child is.

LE hasn't officially ruled anything out. But, as other posters have said, it's pretty clear the direction they are going. Their comments indicate they found no proof of Sky being whisked away.

I agree. I think it would be hard. With our current laws, it appears some sort of paper trail or electronic trail would be left behind whether Julia took Sky out of the country or someone else did. For example, if they didn't leave straight from the U.S. and instead went through Canada or Mexico, it would be easy to trace.

If a U.S. citizen traveling to Canada does not have a passport, passport card, or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver’s License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship. (Please see below for important information concerning re-entry into the United States.)

Travel with Minors: If you plan to travel to Canada with a minor who is not your own child or for whom you do not have full legal custody, CBSA may require you to present a notarized affidavit of consent from the minor’s parents. Please refer to the CBSA website linked above for more details. There is no specific form for this document, but it should include dates of travel, parents’ names and photocopies of their state-issued IDs.
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html#children

Answer: The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) establishes document requirements for travel into the United States from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. The travel documents required for children vary according to the form of travel, the age of the child and whether or not the child is traveling as part of an organized group. Minors traveling without their parents may also be required to show proof that the parents authorized the trip. Air Travel
All US and Canadian citizens, regardless of age, traveling by air to Mexico are required to present a passport. Find out how to get a passport.
Travel by Land and Sea
US and Canadian citizens aged 16 and over who are entering the United States from Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean by land or sea are required to show a passport or alternative WHTI-compliant document such as a passport card. Children up to the age of 15 may present proof of citizenship alone, such as a birth certificate, a consular report of birth abroad, a naturalization certificate, or a Canadian citizenship card.
Group Trips
Special provisions have been made under the WHTI to allow US and Canadian school groups, or other organized groups of children aged 19 and under, to enter the US by land with proof of citizenship (birth certificate). The group should be prepared to present a letter on organizational letterhead with information about the group trip including the name of the group, the names of the adults responsible for the children and a list of the names of the children in the group as well as signed permission from the childrens' parents.
Parental Authorization
In order to prevent international child abductions, minors traveling without their parents, or with only one parent, may be asked to present proof that they have their parents' authorization for travel.

  • A minor traveling unaccompanied by his or her parents must carry a notarized letter signed by the parents authorizing the travel.
  • If only one parent is traveling with the child, they may be asked to show either documents proving they have sole legal custody of the child, or a notarized letter from the other parent authorizing the child to travel outside the country of origin. See an example parental authorization letter.

In another case, the Jhessye Shockley case, they initially arrested the mother for child abuse/neglect but released her because they want to go for murder and since the charges would likely relate to the same incident (abuse/murder), it would be double jeopardy if she was charged with abuse and then later charged with murder. So, they released her.

I'm wondering if something similar is happening here.
