Wow, dimples, that looks a lot like him. The angle in the missing photo is weird, so the nose might be off, but definitely the closest match I've seen so far.

Another thing about the article. They say that he checked in under the name Lyle Stevick and that the name from the book is Lyle Stevik

Well, it's not the New York Times.

I also had a feeling he could be gay, and that due to the traditions and mores of his culture, it made him an undesirable or embarrasment to his kinfolk. To his tribe. I have met gay indians but they were always outcasts from their tribe. The ones I have met were from Eastern Washington State and one who was a Navajo.

Even though he had lost so much weight his body seemed unremarkable in that I don't remember anything out of the norm except no earlobes. It had to be a mental issue with him why he didn't want to live anymore.

The blue shirt was laid on the chair beside the bed as though it were put that way on purpose, next to the table with the notes and money. Was the shirt in that position when he was found?

Also the bed has some marks on it that looked like residue in 3 areas. He had spent one night there as I remember, and wonder if he slept there. I didn't see the top sheet or blanket. I wonder if they tested what looks like a sheet to me with the smudges on it, to see if there was any other fresh DNA besides his.

It is an incredible case. He had a presance about him even in death, and a most distinct character has emerged. So unique in his appearance it seems as though he would be recognized right away. It isn't just his unibrow but also his chin, wide and square I see that frame his face. There just has to be something in all that we know about him to say who he is. xox
I agree with everything you said here. I had mentioned I thought he was gay and took some flack over it, but there is just something about him.

Having no earlobes should narrow the field considerably, but it hasn't that I can see. I think it is because most shots of missing are from the front and do not give a good view of the earlobes. Someone could have left it out of the missing description, too. (BTW~ The last guy's photo which was posted does resemble him...but had two earrings...so not a possible match, imo)

After all this time and as many faces as we have considered here, I believe he was never reported missing anywhere and finding out who he is will wait until such a time where they can use his DNA or new avenues such as the oxygen testing on his teeth to determine exactly the area he lived in.

I believe the shirt is exactly where they found it. If not, I have not heard why it would have been moved.

I can't seem to find an answer about the smudges on the sheets...but would like to know the answer to that question, too.

Those smudges could have been there long before he checked in. I'm ruling out that he brought a hooker back to his room because somebody would have seen that (hotel staff, other people) and that would have been mentioned on any site. If someone else's DNA was found on him it would have been mentioned. I can't think of any other way he could have entered that hotel with a hooker

I noticed on Lyle's face that he appears to have something that looks like a freckle on his cheek. I have them myself and his is a dark brown colour, which is also the same colour as my freckles. It's near his mole: http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e232/docwho3/lyle/?action=view&current=lylfin2.jpg

I don't recall seeing any smudges on the bedding. That might be shadows looking like smudges. It appeared that he had slept in the bed. No one saw anybody else coming or leaving his room, although it is possible. His blue plaid shirt was tossed onto the chair, as though he did that just before he hung himself. The bedspread was placed over the front window curtains to block out the light. I honestly don't know if Lyle was gay, although if he was, that could be a motivating factor. I appreciate all of the work everyone is doing. That was a good article in the Navajo paper. It may lead to something, you never know until you try.

Someone else thought that there was some stuff on the bed that looked like smudging

Just curious how many have read the Joyce Carol Oates book? I am finally getting around to it.

The very first sentence in the book was rather interesting:

"She had been waiting for a sign to release her into Death, now the sign was granted."

I read it. Posted about it awhile back (but I'm too tired to look it up now - sorry)!

I recall looking at him sometime ago, and excluding him, although I can't recall the reason now. I'll look through the case file and double check.

Could you list the other people on the case file you ruled out, might save us a bit :)

There isn't a written list of excluded names, although I could go through the files and put something together. There are hundreds of names, and many of them were excluded with dental, fingerprints, or physical descriptors such as tattoos.

I found some info on these Native American tribes of interest:

Chinook (Location is Washington on the Northwest Coast, have been working with the Quinault)
Cayuga (Can be found in Ontario)
Carrier (Located in British Columbia)

Bannock (Located in Idaho)
Beaver (Located in Alaska)
Assiniboine (Can be found in Alberta and Saskatchewan)
Abenaki (Can be found in Quebec)
Chipewyan (Located in Northwest Territories)

outofthedark-

Not sure if you recall, but letters were sent about Lyle to all the tribes of British Columbia, Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana, as well as a few tribes in Southern Alberta.

Alberta and Manitoba literally have hundreds of tribes, so sending that many letters would be cost prohibitive to say the least.

I got all the tribe names out a 1996 kids encylopedia on North American Native tribes. I knew about the letters, but I didn't remember the places they were sent to
