Ask me how to get your loved one in NamUs
Lyle's nose makes me think he's aboriginal or Native American - or possibly Slavic. I honestly do not think he had anything to do with 9/11, either with the planning, the guilt trip or having family members who may have passed. I just don't get that feeling. BUT, those of you who DO hold that opinion are absolutely entitled to it and I love reading your opinions-- anyway, neither here nor there.
What we know is, no bus driver saw him or remembers dropping him off in WA. Could he have hitch hiked? Walked? Hopped a train without a ticket?
I don't know much about Native America, but, I do wonder if it is common for them to go missing from reservations and no one thinks much of it, or if they're close enough to each other to realize someone is missing, etc etc.
Also, can a Canadian accent be confused with another accent? (Possibly Scottish?? Maybe? IDK)
I just sent Jacie a PM to see what she thinks of Lyle with Carl's Recon. She thought he was Native American - Lakota/Nakota/Dakota or Arikara.
I think you're right about the Quinalt River Inn! Beautiful area. I always pictured the hotel as being a more anonymous chain place - this one looks rather peaceful. I bet when they remodeled the rooms they took out those lower-hanging clothes racks.
It was so poignant to see his blue plaid shirt on the chair - I immediately recognized it and felt so sad. Something unusual I noticed in the photos (from astridxx's international (!!) link) was the towel beneath the belt around his neck. Hotels usually have white towels. Perhaps he brought it with him? Was he seen with a backpack initially but it was never found? I will have to go back and read.
I'd never thought about it before, but some of the websites about suicide by hanging mention putting a towel or padding on the front quarter of the neck to keep the ligature from cutting into the skin.
There's a good synopsis and those same photos on this blog: http://uidmysteries.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-mysterious-case-of-lyle-stevik.html
Read the 2nd post I'm quoting about the motel.
Just a few thoughts; I checked out the FB page, Google searched LS and read about half this thread tonight.
When I saw his postmortem picture, my immediate impression was Arikara, from Montana/North Dakota area. He looks like several young guys who were in University classes with me who were from Ft Peck, MT or Mandaree, ND.
His height would be comparable to some Lakota/Nakota/Dakota or Arikara.
I would check United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota.
I wonder if this story was ever covered by Indian Country Today Media Network.
I went to 3 FB pages last night, just to compare the picture of LS to the guys. I can think of several people I know who have similar features to him.
I never looked at this thread before because I didn't know the connection to AI/NA. Where he was found is an AI area, the motel address he gave is AI, as well. Does anyone know if coldcaseman still reads/posts here?
