Warren Jeffs FLDS compound in Texas surrounded by police #5

Lovely people, IMO I think we can let this comment go without getting nasty. Ladybass appears to be expressing what she is familiar with and personally I think enough said. Those of us with maybe wider experience realize that this stereotype does not actually hold up...

Peace

I don't think I got nasty in my comment back. She asked a question, and I asked for clarification prior to responding to her. If she feels that her past experience has bearing on her asking the question in the first place, she is certainly free to express that here.

Peace

I wouldn't let ladybass's comment offend any of you. I understand what she meant. My neighbor who is black always tells me I am so white lol..I'm like yep I am white! It's all in good fun no harm done. Just like when I am around her I can ''mock'' the way she talks and it just makes her laugh and that is usually when she tells me how white I am. I can totally tell someone's race over the phone just by the way they talk.

That's not possible. Not every black person speaks exactly the same way. I find this to be a rather ignorant statement.

I think this case is a travesty, personally, and hear me out. let me first state that I have absolutely no affiliation with any organized religion, but I am a person of strong faith.

Granted the state went in based on a phone call of yet unknown origin and found evidence of children in danger. In spite of the clearly increasingly dubious nature of that call, there is clearly a situation in the compound that needs to be sorted out-ie teenagers who are pregnant and possibly married below the age the law allows in TX.

That being said, I cannot for the life of me figure out why, after the dna swabs were taken, it is AT All justified to separate these women from their babies, further traumatizing these children who are already being exposed to food and a lifestyle that they know nothing about. WTF???? By all means, Texas, when you have the lowest rated schools in the country and the highest number of children without healthcare, spend millions of dollars overburdening the fostercare system with children who have established parents and are too young to have been victimized in the way the state is allegeding???

I don't buy it-I don't care if the women are not cooperating and are being obstructive-fine, charge them all once the parentage is sorted out for the children. WS'ers how many stories have we read here about foster parents who abuse the children in their care? These children are uniquely vulnerable having been raised so far from the world as we know it....it isn't right, it is atrocious and I would be picketing in TX if I did not live on the east coast.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Believe,

So much bothers me about this case that I have a hard time knowing where to begin. Certainly the issues you raise in this post are in there.

This is nothing but personal prejudice and I'll gladly own it, but I have such a hard time pulling together hope and respect once CPS/DFACS - any of those child welfare agencies - are brought into the scene to help children. And before anyone lambasts me - I have a number of friends who have worked in these agencies in a number of states. I believe most of the individuals truly have the best interests of children and families at heart, but most of the organizations themselves are sick beyond repair, IMHO. We need to level them and start fresh.

It's a sad day when people are more scared of the children being absorbed into the "helping" agencies than staying in their own abusive family systems.

With all due respect, I know very little about CPS in Texas. Maybe they are the exception that proves the rule, but somehow I doubt it.

I was specifically referring to the current members. Utah and Arizona have lots of experience eliciting promises and agreements from this group which quickly fall apart. It just seems to me that they say anything in the moment and then do/say whatever they want.

Just making sure I understood you. I agree with you completely.

I can often, but not always, get an idea of a person's ethnicity/race/nationality over the telephone...especially if I call the support number for my DSL provider - Indian, every time! ;)

.... if a white person can "mock" an accent, perhaps a person of another race might have the vocal capabilities to do the same. Speech patterns are dictated by the result of environment and family influence no matter where you are raised in this world or what race you descend from.

I should have quoted, I was really responding to the information on the FLDS timeline from their website.

LOL. I know what you mean about Indian every time! Same way with my auto finance company and my son's cell phone co. I get an Indian every time. I* can barley understand them and with my Alabama twang they can barley understand me.

I fall right in line with you, SCM. As for the majority of the women heading to a shelter rather than back to the compound, I suspect that they strongly believe it will improve their chances of seeing their children. EVEN though it has been stated that there will be no prejudice against those who return to the compound.

Most of these women have come from a few generations of FLDS, correct? They must feel that every fear they have ever been taught about the secular world is coming true.

As for waterboarding of infants etc...clearly none of that will take place under the watchful eye of the state while the woman are with their children, and I do not again believe that there will be credible evidence given by the infants and toddlers regarding their experiences along these lines....although I respect the opinion of others who believe otherwise.

This is from the comments after an article:

Abish: 4/24/2008 7:23:00 PM +1

Read Carolyn Jessop's account of her ex-husband Merril Jessop's (now the bishop in charge the YFZ Ranch) method of "breaking" babies, to teach them not to cry, because their crying was "offensive to God".

Then ask yourself how awful it really is that these babies have been taken away from the adults who subjected them to such atrocities, including the mothers who at the very least stood by and let it happen.

And of course these are the same mothers who watch their adolescent sons tossed out into the world alone, never allowed any contact with their families again, and who teach their daughters that they must allow themselves to be raped by whatever man the "prophet" orders them to "marry".

These mothers urgently need a loud, loud wake-up call. Hopefully having their young children taken away from them will do the trick, at least for many of them.

If they come around to the realization that what they've been doing is enabling the unconscionable abuse of their children, they'll get their children back and get help and support in adjusting to life in the free world. If they don't come around, then their children are much better off without them.

What's really bad is when you get someone with a foreign accent when you call IRS for tax help.

  • #214
:waitasec: Why?

Sorry I don't mean it in a bad way. But they are saying that the woman in colorado could have made those calls. But I don't see it. I believe that the "sarah" who made the call is an actual real person, and these calls were legit.

But if they are focusing all there attention on the woman in colorado, then the sarah that made the calls, has yet to be found, . I don't think they should give up on trying to locate her.

Sorry that it sounded wrong the way I wrote it, I have been busy moving a friend, and just something I thought of. It was in no way meant as a disrespect.

LOL!!

I circumvent that problem by never ever calling the IRS - I'm not entirely convinced that someone having a bad day wouldn't just patch me through to AUDITING!

Ladybass0711, what does a black person sound like to you? I don't think you should generalize about what a person sounds like according to race.

Sorry, I meant that noramally black people have accents, and pronounce some words differently. Please know that this was not an attack, it was just a badly worded question.

Ah - that's an interesting theory!

I'm sputtering over here. I have to say I find that to be a pretty offensive statement and generalization.

I apoligize Golfmom, it was not my intention to offend anyone here.

lmao Yes Deb, I am glad I am not the only one to experience this.

Thank you, LB. I understand your explanation. Personally, I think that it isn't going to matter whether Sarah is a real person or not. Once they discovered a herd of pregnant teenagers it was game over.
