I am a newbie here and hope i don't get in trouble for saying this, but I must quote Christopher Guest from my fave movie of all time "Waiting for Guffman"-

To all of these perverts and the folks that defend them...

"I hate you and your Azz Face!"

Leroy Johnson’s taught: “We are not trying to set up another church or to set the Church in order.”[13] However, in response to a disagreement with members of the UEP, the Johnson/Jeffs group (the “First Ward”) officially registered their religious organization, calling themelves “The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints” (note the lack of a hyphen in Latter-Day and the capitalization of “Day”) or FLDS Church in 1991 with Jeffs as President.[14]

I would say in TX (not sure about AZ & UT), if a common law marriage is legally recognized - the women who leave do not know enough to go after what they're legally entitled to. Isn't that the way the FLDS men want it?
I think that those who did file did so after it was explained to them that they could.

The way I understand it, the church owns it all. Including the women and children. But that is an interesting question. If wife 2 leaves the sect, would she need to get a divorce- even though the marriage was illegal?

Now I am dying to know what name was listed on the legal property deed when the land was purchased. The owner of the property is either listed as a person, (and spouse, if Texas is one of the states which require married people to list both names on a property deed, not sure...) or as a corporate entity.

The 'church' may think they own all of the women and children, but the rest of the world calls that slavery... The charges against these creeps keep racking up!

I hope we get a forum soon

After I read some of these books I've ordered, I'd love to have a thread in order to discuss them.

I do believe all the land and homes are legally owned by the "church." This is how they are able to simply banish men and reassign their wives, children and homes to their chosen few. If these men were the actual property owners, this practice would not be legally possible.

THE MARRIAGE OF THE YOUNG IS SWEET TO THEM, OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE THAT DECISION FOR THEMSELVES, OR ELSE THEY ARE NOT IN THAT SPIRIT OF LIFE WHICH COMES FROM GOD. THE AGE OF ACCOUNTABILITY IS EIGHT.

For years it has been a thing in the FLDS religion to look at women who couldn't make it work with the husband she had, as "used" women and of a second class nature. Now there are men that are second class..

Thanks molly! You are on it!

I still have no idea who they would have officially registered with? Was it the IRS, the LDS, the address on a book of matches to perform weddings in Vegas... or what?

Fairy- I think you are right- but what exactly happened in 2003 (I think)? Didn't the gov't begin trying to oversee the trust because of that kind of abuse? I think they are having a hard time 'overseeing' it, but haven't tried all that hard. I hate to admit it, but when I try to read about all the financial/business stuff I get cross-eyed.

I chalk that up to being an artist and avoiding any type of business classes in college. When I start reading about all of the trusts, money issues, business speak, I have to say my eyes just glaze over. I am embarassed that I can't quite understand it.

I would love to get my hands on an "FLDS Financial/Business Primer for Dummies"! Someone? Anyone?

Apparently, somebody has sued successfully............

"Jeffs, UEP told to pay up:

The first moves are being made to collect on an $8.8 million judgement against jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. . . .

The UEP Trust was founded on the early Mormon concept of a "united order," where people would put everything into a common pot and get things back based on wants and needs. The UEP Trust controls most of the land in the polygamous enclaves of Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Ariz.

LOL I plump for the book of matches.. or on the wig box. Really I don't know where they would have registered this.
Where does one officially register a church?

I was gone from this thread for awhile when the claims were made. Tell me exactly what about identifying a person's voice is offensive?????

Honestly, I am amazed that this myth still exists in this day and age. People get a clue. Black people are as just as diverse as white people. Black people can have southern accents, French accents, English accents, midwestern accents, etc.

They are administering it and they have been in contact with FBI and other LE trying to trace where quite a bit of the money went.

This is very interesting. But he's not a sister wife who bore children within the sect. And it does not appear that the women benefit from the "common" monies stockpiled within the sect. Don't see any of them driving red Escalades, do we?

I still want an FLDS For Dummies book!

People who are free thinking will never understand the FLDS. If I ever do understand it, I will :bang:

Yes, and in Colorado City/Hillsdale, the homes were owned by the UEP Trust. The homes were located in a town, so the roads, etc were public, and not a part of the trust. The reason they got away with building a high prison-style fence around the Texas compound is because they owned the whole place.

I want to know what exact name was on the deed when they bought the ranch. The entire compound, homes, schools, roads, etc. in Texas is owned by whoever is named on the deed. I am very curious to know if it is a corporation or an individual. I am going to try to get someone in texas to drive up to the courthouse and find out.

Ok - but I want to put money on it being "Jeff's" Road, Boulevard, Court.....whatever. Now that I think about it, shouldn't it be in the public records? Even the ownership of the compound should be in the country records. Right?

It's probably a corporation. I heard one of the LE guys on video who helped the sale, thought the Eldorado property was going to be a corporate hunting retreat.
