And there can be a motive for "marrying" the children early. The earlier they marry, the earlier they can have babies and the more babies they can have. The more babies, the more money.

They won't be getting a fortune, but when they combine that with the 'tithes' received from the ones who live off the compound it will add up. And they can keep compound expenses down by buying in bulk, making their own and doing without "in the name of God."

With what they do make off of the congregation they can then enter into financial businesses that make more money.

It is all about babies, sex, and money. A baby factory!

But everybody please remember this is all just being handled on a local level. There is NO federal involvement at all.

.
FBI has now enteretered the location.. So it has now become a federal case!

but they ARE holding the men.

And I don't see anything humane about telling a woman that you are taking her child and she can come along if she wants or just stand there if she doesn't.

I am not saying that some/many? of these women don't feel relief at being out of their situation. I'm sure some do.

I'm just saying that it wasn't handled right.

A good result can still occur when things are mishandled. It is possible for the two concepts to exists side by side.

It is standard procedure that when a search warrent is being served the occupants of the building that are being searched are REQUIRED to be there.

The woman I talked to told me that they were not holding ALL the men as as soon as the woman were moved to the shelter, some of the men were hanging out there, and the woman and children had to be moved again, because authoroites were scared the men were going to plan a raid to kidnap there wives and children back.

Constitutional rights

Since when is molesting children in our constitutional rights?

Well, they believe abandoning children is a part of their constitutional rights as well:

The church doesn't argue some of the boys were shown the door, but maintains it's no one else's business. Rodney Parker, a church attorney, said all religions have a First Amendment right to decide who can be a member. The age of the excommunicated doesn't matter. "There is no exception in the First Amendment for minors," he said.

On a side note. this topic hits close tohome, I am a survivor of cult abuse, and this is the exact same tactics that were used on me. They have there own doctors, lawyers, police, and law enforcemnet officials.

Your personal insight to this case will be very welcome!

I'm sure there are laws against abandoning your children though, Mr. Lawyer smarty pants.

Question: Don't they have to get building permits in Texas and Colorado? How were they able to build all of these huge buildings on a "hunting retreat" without permits? And with permits comes building inspectors making sure everything is up to code. And then what about zoning laws?

there are several thousand dollars in fines because of this for the building fines.

I'm not great with words so if this sounds argumentative, it's not my intention at all :)

Doesn't it stand to reason that the state of Texas is already feeding at least a portion of these 500 mouths?

Has anyone thought of the financial implications of this on the county? Just feeding 500 people each day has to be a HUGE financial burden. Does this county have this kind of money?

I realize the adult women/mothers were given the option of going with their children - very humane - but since when does a county give the parent of detained individuals (children) food and shelter? I've never heard of this before.

I'm guessing LE officials did not consider the magnitude of what they were going to encounter.

Moe, I had to laugh out loud at your Mr. Lawyer Smarty Pants ...

My guess the state may be feeding all of them, I'd bet they are very frugal, grow and can as much as they can.

Two FBI agents entered compound, authorities are on the look out for Seth Jeff, Warren's bro, apparently he's headed to the compound

Bumping this up. I knew I remembered this guy and an involvement with a sex related arrest. I found the article. I wonder if he has been located yet? He's a creepy looking dude, IMO. Snipped from the below link:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=508&sid=240154

Seth Steed Jeffs, of Hildale, Utah, had pleaded not guilty in November to the charge of harboring a fugitive. U.S. District Judge Robert Blackburn accepted Jeffs' plea, and set a sentencing date for July 14.
Jeffs was arrested Oct. 28, 2005, after a traffic stop in southern Colorado's Pueblo County. He was charged with prostitution and solicitation because a man traveling with Jeffs in an SUV said he had been hired for sex, according to court records. During the stop, authorities found nearly $142,000 in cash, about $7,000 worth of prepaid debit cards and his brother's personal records.

From an article dated December 14th, 2005

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=508&sid=139601

A brother and a nephew of fugitive polygamist leader Warren Jeffs today accused him of sexually abusing young boys and girls for many years. And they laid the blame on Jeffs for a tragic family suicide. Jeffs' relatives say he took advantage of his position in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, using threats of hellfire to force sex acts on boys and girls as young as five-years old.

Between polygamist cops and a polygamist judge, anyone who wanted to leave or confront the FLDS were screwed. Quite a nice little racket the leaders of this group had. Judge Steed was later removed from the bench. Snips from the below link:

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=508&sid=123679

The Utah Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday over whether polygamist Justice Court Judge Walter Steed is fit to remain on the bench.

Steed contends his having three wives is protected by the U.S. and state constitutions and does not affect his judicial work.
The state Judicial Conduct Commission has asked the high court to remove Steed from office, contending his behavior interferes with justice and brings a judicial office into disrepute. Steed has served as a justice court judge in the polygamous border town of Hildale since 1980. Hildale and neighboring Colorado City are the primary communities of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is estimated to have as many as 10,000 residents.
***
Utah and Arizona also have gone after polygamous policemen, revoking their peace officer certifications.
