Extensive article:

.......
In this isolated religious society north of the Grand Canyon, few secrets have been more closely guarded than the presence of fumarase deficiency. Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints elders, who control the community, have labored to keep the public from finding out why the disorder is manifesting. Many members of the fundamentalist community don't even know it's occurring.
.......

Thanks for finding that! I skimmed over it and will go back and read in depth. That goes to what you and I were discussing the other day. I wish I could find an article regarding the Kingston Clan. IIRC, one of their many genetic issues predisposes pregnant women to preclampsia (sp). Couple that with the young age of the mother and lack of medical care, it's had disasterous results. Causing the death of many women in the Kingston Clan.

You know after reading the article on Fumarase Deficiency, I was stunned at the financial costs to the taxpayers to support these children.

And, they absolutely refuse to alter their practices, believing that they are creating a master race for God.

I agree with your thoughts on this, golfmom. And, to me cults like this do not do these things for religious purposes. They do these things as a result of twisted thinking in the NAME of religion.

Tela Mange, a spokeswoman for the Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday that the adults were not being held, but if they left the compound, they could not return while the search continued.

Meanwhile, all the adult men in the FLDS polygamy group are being detainedat their ranch near Eldorado. Only one has actually been arrested for interfering with an officer. The rest are being detained until law enforcement officials complete their search, under warrants, of the entire property.

I would imagine that LE is being very careful at this point not to "technically" violate any of the mens rights. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

I've heard rumors and haven't found anything to back this up. That some sects have started trading young women to combat some of these issues. Trading people, unbelievable isn't it?

Do you mean other FLDS sects Suzi?

Glow and Sheri - I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your ongoing conversation.

Thanks,

So much good stuff has been said in this thread - but I can't quote it all, so I will just say that I admire everyone's compassion and all of your active brains!

This is an issue with many sides to the story and it will take different viewpoints from many to help to fashion a good result here.

Pepper, thank you! The last two links I hadn't seen before, but I was actually looking for something that stated more in depth the genetic issues with the Kingston Clan. Thanks for posting all the links anyways so others can read them.

So to solve the problem of genetic defects in a close community, they are considering breeding with another close community with genetic defects. As fast as their generations fly by with girls just hitting puberty before being bred, I'm wondering if they're inviting a genetic atomic bomb.

Sects that aren't genetically related to each other.

Until they change the practice of incest, all this would do is create a bigger nightmare ... in short order!

Here are the email addresses of the three Mohave Co., AZ Supervisors. I couldn't find anything for a District Attorney or Child Protective Services. I suggest we write each of them and demand that they take a lesson from Texas and do something to protect the children in Colorado City.

And here is information from Washington Co. Utah:

Children's Justic Center

Phone: (435)634-1134
Email: [email protected]

Come on everyone. Let's bombard them with emails!!!!!

Yours are wise words Salem. I think all of us posting on this thread share a common goal. To see these children be given the safety that is everyones birthright no matter what country or religion they happen to be born into. I think we are unified in that one thought. Our ideas on how this should happen vary. But that is ok. After all, unity is different than complete agreement.

Genetisists (sp) love to study these groups because in the real world there are just no subjects like these.

While it is a great idea, Pepper...I think the real problem isn't that they don't want to do something, but legally they have to wait until they have their ducks in a row to enter to take them out. I am thinking with what is going on in Texas that enough information will be given to substantiate the probable cause warrants to enter the other facilities in other states. They need proof these atrocitites are taking place and not speculation. If it had not been for the girl calling, they would still be in a stand-off in Texas, too.

Your story is dated April 7 and is from a local TV reporter. The one I cited is dated TODAY and is from AP and quotes the source. I believe mine over yours!

You're right, they do need probably cause, but I think they've had probable cause in the past and haven't done anything because of the cost and the resources necessary. I just think if they got lots of email from citizens throughout the US they might be more inclined to do something, or at least look more closely at it.
