I actually saw a Dateline? special about two girls who escaped. One of the girls eventually went back on her own because that was the only life that she had known; and she wasn't able to adjust to the "outside" world. The other girl was thriving. I think that she was even in college, which I thought was a miracle since these girls have very limited education! I was saddened that the one girl just couldn't adapt.

IIRC, this special covered years. It showed the girls when they escaped to how they changed their styles and attitudes. At first, it was like a time warp. It was nice to see how the one girl went from really geeky looking to changing to a typical teen. The other girl just couldn't adapt and returned to her compound. I often wondered what type of punishment she received for escaping. :(

Last night I read the story of the two girls. They shared the same first name - Fawn - and their story is called the two Fawns. They were both 16 when they escaped, and eventually were taken in with one of the girl's older brother in Salt Lake City. He had escaped many years before, was married, and had a family of his own. When the two girls were tested for placement in public school, they were at the 5th grade level. The school put them in with their age group, but they had additional home study and the one girl who excelled caught up with her peer group eventually. Here's a link to their story:

I realized after I started reading about the events at the compound in El Dorado, that the names rang a bell with me. They're the same surnames I read about when Warren Jeffs was arrested in the summer of 2006 and when he went to trial last September. After years of inter-marriage between the same families there's going to be many people with the same surname, and sorting them all out is going to be a nightmare. Lets hope the FLDS kept records of births, deaths, marriages.

Yes, Leila, not to mention that DNA is going to identify the same genes. It might be difficult to determine whether a child has been impregnated by her father, uncle, or grandfather. Yuck.

The Short Creek Raid - July 26, 1953

Kidnapped from that Land
The Government Raids on the Short Creek Polygamists

Short Creek raid

Just before dawn on July 26, 1953, 102 Arizona state police officers and soldiers from the National Guard entered Short Creek. The community—which was composed of approximately 400 Mormon fundamentalists—had been tipped off about the planned raid and were found singing hymns in the schoolhouse while the children played outside. The entire community was taken into custody, with the exception of six individuals who were found not to be fundamentalist Mormons. Among those taken into custody were 236 children. One hundred and fifty of the children who were taken into custody were not permitted to return to their parents for over two years, and some parents never did regain custody of their children.

After the Short Creek raid, the Mormon polygamist colony at Short Creek eventually rejuvenated. Short Creek was renamed Colorado City in 1960.

Following is a PDF:

Helping Victims of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in Polygamous Communities
A joint report from the offices of the Attorney Generals of Arizona and Utah.

I personally think there is going to be huge legal ramifications from this latest raid in Texas.

Fox News reporting that the court hearing just started a few minutes ago in San Angelo, Texas. The attorneys for the FLDS are arguing that the search warrants were not specific and too broad. They are arguing their case before the same judge that issued the warrant.

Yep Leila, this is the group that Warren Jeffs took over after his father died. As goofy as they were to begin with under Warren's leadership, the children quit going to school, the sect became even more secretive, and Jeffs tossed out anyone who might threaten his authority.

How does the daily mail get the temple so white? The same way they get the grass so green, etc ...Photoshop. :)

I did not see a little girl looking straight at the camera...was it in the same article? Thanks.

Hi Truly,

You may be right about the photoshop thing but I read another article where someone in the nearby town said you can see the temple shining in the distance, it's so bright....

Also the pic I'm talking about is in the article I mentioned above that SuzieQ was thoughtful enough to post a link to. Maybe it's been removed? I'll look in a bit.

nora, I don't think it's going down along the lines of the Short Creek raid. In the 50's it was public outcry that caused that raid to go south. Americans at that time, couldn't believe the allegations of incest and child abuse. All they really saw was photos of women and children crying. No different than America's reluctance to get involved during WWII. Then, American's really fought hard against the idea that concentration camps could exist and the idea of genocide was absolutely impossible to believe. It took Pearl Harbor to drag us kicking and screaming into the war.

Today, so much information is at our fingertips.

Pepper, Yes! That's along the lines I was looking for. Thank you. From what I've heard through media and the rumor mill, the Kingston Clan gives birth to the most extremely deformed children of all the sects.

Jubie ... here's the caption for the women and children crying:

Relieved: A group of women church members tearfully embrace after being reunited at Fort Concho, Texas

Love it!!

We are starting to hear more and more stories of attempted escapes and outright escapes, I get a feeling when these women and children learn what their options are not all of them are going to go running back to YFZ!

My guess would be child labor. Maybe have the boys climb up a rope or repel down from the top and scrub every inch of it....what do they care if one or two or four happen to fall and die? Less boys to compete with the dirty old men for the 'women' folk. Just my :twocents:

You know after reading the article on Fumarase Deficiency, I was stunned at the financial costs to the taxpayers to support these children.

And, they absolutely refuse to alter their practices, believing that they are creating a master race for God.

I think something was bound to happen sooner or later, with the incest and marriages between family members. I heard one genetic expert over the weekend who said that if there's a genetic problem, that problem becomes two-fold when family members marry and produce children. That's why there's laws on the books in every state that doesn't allow marriage between family members.

LOL, that's just what tabloids do is alter the photos a bit. For instance, many sources have photos of the large white temple. No one else has little men in FBI shirts walking up the steps.:)

(OT, fun fact: There is a bridge overpass in Washington DC just before the huge extravagant Mormon temple comes into view. The temple looks like OZ, and someone had written in large neat letters across the overpass: Oh-oh, Dorothy. I don't think we're in Kansas anymore. )

When I was young, I ran across a young woman who was probably about 19 or 20 years old and was the mother of 2 kids. She appeared to be a little slow. Of her two children, both were profoundly retarded. One was unable to sit or speak, only moaned. The other moved more and I think she could move more. The story I heard was that both kids were the result of incest. The oldest most severe child was allegedly fathered by the father of the girl. The second was allegedly fathered by the girl's uncle. That experience has always stuck in my mind, the girl was slow but by combining the gene's of the same gene pool the kids paid the price for the incest.

Okay, I was going to quote your 9 a.m. post, but it is now deleted! Anyway, I was curious to hear some details about your life. Can you tell me your age and if an organization run by other women who escaped helped you? What was your educational level at your compound? Did you further your education after you left? Are you working? Were you married off? Did you have children? Feel free to only answer questions that you feel comfortable answering. :blowkiss:

It is mind-blowing that our government allows these type of cults to exist here on U.S. soil. It's scary, too. It must have taken the ultimate courage to actually escape because I do believe you when you say that women who refused to go along with the program were beaten and even murdered.

I am married, and have gone through more education. I do not have children as of yet. I escaped through a very supportive system, that helped me during the time I was able to actually get access to a computer.

That gave me a chuckle. There is an LDS temple in Provo that IMO, looks like a flying saucer. It's really hideous and alot of members of the LDS faith don't like it either. Below is a link to pics of it:

ETA: do you think I'd get arrested for spray painting..."Beam me up Scotty!"

Now my neighbor got married in the gorgious Manti temple. When non LDS people look at her wedding pics they say "how did you afford that???!!!" Links to the Manti pic is below. Absolutely beautiful.

Ladybass....for your own safety please continue to err on the side of caution. 99.9% of us here understand your need to do so.

Thank you!

Ladybass, I respect your request to remain anonymous for your own safety. But can you share with us whether the cult you fear is a part of the Mormon offshoot polygamist cults like FLDS, or is it something most of us have never heard of?

It is a cult that most of you have never heard about. Howver the mind control techniques are the same, as well as the programming.
