Hi, first post. I've mostly been reading old threads for research and ignoring the new ones but that CBS special is making me think things are finally heating up, maybe it's time to start keeping up with the new discussions.
To begin, I agree with those who suspect B may be speaking out to get in front of some bad publicity. Kolar's book has been lurking in the background for a while now and with these specials and the anniversary it's inevitable that the revelations from his book will get more press, especially now we know he's participating in the CBS special. And a lot of the book's revelations have to do with Burke, such as:
- the multiple anecdotes about his strange affect/lack of concern after JB's murder
- the poop issue
- his behavior and responses during the soon-to-be released interviews, particularly the part where he seemingly re-enacts the blow to JB's head just days after her murder
- his prints being with Patsy's on the infamous pineapple bowl
- and of course the 911 call. From the trailer it appears for the first time we will not only get to hear the enhanced call (since they played a clip of John saying, "We're not talking to you!") but they will also interview Kim Archuleta, the operator who took the call and reported to her supervisor about hearing something strange at the end of the call. That blew me away when I first read it. If it's actually played, team Ramsey HAS to explain. And who better than Burke?
Kolar has always been very careful not to explicitly talk about Burke in his media appearances and I doubt he or anyone will go all out with the BDI theories this time around. (And personally, I'm not sold on BDI; I'm equally suspicious of all three and think a lot of BDI evidence points just as much to him simply knowing too much about the crime/being a witness as it does to him being the culprit.) But the many and varied issues regarding Burke and the lies his parents told about his presence during the 911 call, why he pretended to be asleep that morning, expressed no curiosity/concern about his sister's "disappearance" then murder/the cops being in the house, etc etc etc will come up. I'm sure his refusal to talk to investigators (including Kolar, need I remind you) in 2010 will be brought up by CBS as well as the issue of Kolar wanting his medical/psychiatric records. It would behoove Burke to be able to explain all that to the best of his ability.
Which leads me to my theory of at least one of the reasons why he may have picked DR. Phil to play 20 Softball Questions with: perhaps he will reveal he DOES have Aspergers or some autism spectrum condition as people have long suspected? For me personally, a lot of his odd behavior makes more sense (and seems less incriminating) if that is the case, and these syndromes are no longer as stigmatized as they would have been in 1996, 1997. He'd gain public sympathy at this point and be able to use it as a defense not only of his behavior but also his parents' extreme protection of him to the point of lying: lying to protect vulnerable, innocent Burke from public and police scrutiny. Dr. Phil can help explain his behavior away with pop psychology. Just a hunch. We'll see.
