DeeDee249,

No, not unless you count Pope Joan in.

Some more than others. Consider Judaism, no female deva, Catholicism offers the Virgin Mary, even black ones, some say based on Isis. A female friend once remarked to me, why are all these priests dressed up in frocks and lace, inhaling incense, ringing bells, drinking wine and chanting? She suggested they were mimicking ancient female religious rites.

.

Maybe they just like the frocks and lace?

As do I. So I know from where I speak. Still have ruler marks on the backs of my hands and legs.

I'm what's called a "Recovering Catholic." And, I owe it all to the nuns who filled my childhood with fear, humiliation, terror, nightmares and a overwhelming feeling of worthlessness.
The only warm thought I can have of them is that in today's world, if they treated children as they treated me, they would be arrested and punished for child abuse.

By the time I was in (Catholic) High School, I was no longer terrified. THEY were terrified of ME. By then, I had realized that if you hit them back, you won't be struck by lightening and sent to He*l.

Although this has gone off topic a fair bit, it really does fill this little atheist's heart with joy reading your posts.

I am very much a believer in God. Just not the way I was taught. I have a much broader view of the Universe and my place in it and where I'll go from here. It'll be like an "Invisibility Cloak"! Kewl!

I have no problem with Faith. I have a problem with those who have the audacity to claim they speak for God.

And I really did hit them back...sometimes it was more of a hard pinch...

Can someone help me out with some information? Was it ever determined who caused the golf club accident? I remember reading that BR accidentally hit her in the face? Was this ever verified, or was PR's word taken? Anyway, I was wondering what the odds would be, of the same little girl, suffering 2 unrelated bashes to the head area?

dodie20,
Yes, Burke , swung a golf club and accidentally whacked JonBenet in the face. Now note this, JonBenet was rushed to hospital immediately by her parents, where a doctor decided surgery would not be required.

Contrast this with her head injury and coma on the night of her death?

Where surgery was also not required sadly.

JR was asked this question during one of his interviews. He backed PR up and said that it was BR who done it. But, only P, B & JB were there so it is still PR's word.

Also when they asked JR about the blackeye that BR had, he said that he got hit in the eye with a baseball. They asked him flatout did he know that PR was the one who threw the baseball. He said "no". :waitasec:

I just cant wrap my head around Burke being involved in the actual murder, maybe inadvertently in the cover up....who knows. IIRC, Burke told police shrinks that in the middle of the night he heard his mom say something like OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH. And I believe he also mentioned lights being turned off.

But I did read something here yesterday I hadnt heard about. That red knife. And the fact that he whittled and made such a mess of it. Apparently Pats hid the knife (after Thanksgiving of that year) in a cupboard just outside of JB's bedroom. But yet there it was a few yards from JB's body in the winecellar. Hmmmmmm...

Wow really?! I've never heard this before, do you have the source?

Its in the Thomas book. I have it on Kindle, so I dont know if the chapters are the same but it was toward the end of chapter 33. Talking about Burke:

"He heard the "house creaking" during the night, he said, and when he awoke, his mother was turning on the lights and in a rush, saying, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh," then his father turned the lights off again. Burke stayed in bed "wondering if something bad had happened." He heard his father trying to calm his mother, then telling her to call the police..."

Keep in mind, this was the night of the 25th. John is telling Patsy to call the police? Also, I was under the impression Burke was gone before the police showed up but Burke told police that he (Burke) did not get out of bed that morning and that a policeman looked into his room. He goes on to further to say he thought that when the police arrived they would "probably be tied up all day" and they would not get to go on their trip. He also told police that JB's bed wetting was a big problem.

And an odd note to the end of three days of interviews with Burke by police, Burke was asked after this 3-day interview was over if he had any questions for them, He looked at Det. Schuller's wristwatch and asked...."is that a Rolex?" Yeah, he was only nine but after his sister was just murdered I thought that was, well, unusual. JMO

Ooooh I vaguely remember the thing about the rolex, might have to re-read that book! Wow that kinda just blows the whole case open if it's true doesn't it?! Can't believe this is not more widely publicised. I wonder if Burke will ever speak publicly about this case, perhaps after John passes away?

Thats exactly what I thought. I was in shock at some of the things in the Thomas book. I didnt follow this case all that much during the heyday but got into it much later. For me, the countless ways the Boulder DA let the Rs run the investigation was unbelievable. From moment one, J was in charge and his team called all the shots. The Rs had no trouble spouting off to the media and anyone else that would listen but it took months, and sometimes years, for them to cooperate with police's requests.

I think someone will break their silence eventually. Maybe it will take J's death, who knows. Some cold cases never get solved but others break wide open after decades. People die, people cant keep secrets anymore....there's various reasons why someone could step up and solve this in the future. JMO

Another thing about Burke's interview with police, per the Thomas book, he (Burke) said that JB was not asleep when they got home and that JB walked up the steps followed by Pats. If this is true, I wonder what happened when she got upstairs? Did she go to bed immediately? I still think something happened during that time soon after they got home. J said he read to JB. Lots of stories out there about what really happened after they all got home.

I still think either JB didnt go to bed right away, or did then woke up shortly thereafter to a bathroom issue while Pats was trying to pack. Pats tried to clean her up and for whatever reason got upset with her to the point of rage. Another poster here suggested JB was slammed into the side of the tub or facuet and I agree with that. Then the true madness began.
