Websleuths is changing our colors

I have noticed the red dots too and they are only there if I have one or more alerts.
Interesting. I just captured this (no dots)

and then looked back after seeing your post and now I have them showing dots (mere seconds later), except the one on the very right. Strange... but dots or no dots I can definitely live with!

My experience is that the tabs update after you have been on one. Example: four tabs open, you go to one and read for a bit. Red dot goes away (I've had it go away without reading alerts, btw) The other tabs eventually catch up during a refresh. But that is what I see on my specific computer/browser combo. But the dot is to signify you have an alert.

Not on my tabs, but on a banner of favs tiles on my home page. Had one alert in Watched Threads, and got red dotted.

I hope this new feature continues to red dot me. Hmm... the other W is back.

Not sure but I had different shades of blue for the 'new colours' at first. Now all of a sudden I have black background and blue framing, etc. Maybe I made it black myself somehow by mistake lol. Does anyone else have black background or is it just me lol.

I'm hearing others say the logged on and found their background was black. Which surprised them because they were unaware of the changes coming to WS after it was down for 3 days.

It's being worked on behind the scenes, and sometimes changes may just happen while we're under construction. You can change it yourself if you want. I'm in High Contrast Dark right now. Check it out-- Go down the the very bottom left and you'll see the paint brush, and there's selections within. You can experiment with which theme.

HIGH CONTRAST then choose DARK or LIGHT, or back to the old Orange-Black which will not be here for long.

Posters keep saying they like the new look, but don't say which theme they're using. (ETA- or if it's the Light or Dark option)

Lots of choices here right now before the final changes.

Which one? Just curious which option you like as there are currently 7 of them if you include the Light/Dark options for 3 of them. Black-Orange is the only option that doesn't have a Light/Dark option.

That's what I was suggesting, that members start stating which specific theme they're saying they like so that @fraize can know. I didn't realize there are currently 7 theme options.

Thank-you! Yes, I'm glad to move on from the orange!

@fraize, I'm over here in the Dark
m0136.gif
, and I've noticed that if I quote or partially quote and bring it into the reply box, then go to the next page to quote, the ones I had in the reply box disappear if I go to different page. However, multi-quotes can travel to the next page if you don't open them in reply box first.

Also, sometimes I would quote and copy into a post already posted, but I don't think that's possible anymore. I'll try to quote something else in a new quote, then copy it bringing into this post, and we'll see if that's still possible. That worked, so no problem there. ✔️

Thank-you! Yes, I'm glad to move on from the orange!

:)

Well, now it worked, so disregard my post entirely. I just quoted the below, expanded it in the reply box, then changed the page, and didn't lose the quote sitting there in the reply box. So, I'm happy.

Maybe what @Bounceycat is saying is that, with chrome, you can click on a little icon on the URL-bar to "Install Websleuths." That's just a "Progressive Web App" or PWA. It's essentially a tiny Chrome (or Safari) browser that only runs the one website within it.

Hi @fraize . I noticed a problem with search that I hope you can remedy.

As you're aware, a lot of us want the option to have our search results be in Reverse chronological order. You gave us the nifty work-around to do an Advanced Search, so thank you! The problem with that is we then don't have the option to Advance Search "This thread" like in a non-Adv search (window below), which is super important IMO.

I checked all the options under the Advanced Search and not seeing "This Thread". There's lots of other options (thank you!) but not the one I find most important. :(

I had thought the search below would work (knowing it was a post of mine in a thread with Kohberger in the title), but it comes up with no results. I'm unsure what logic the computer is using. Knowing how a computer 'thinks' (their logic) helps me maneuver sites but I can't figure this one out. :(

So... is that doable to give us "This Thread" option when selecting Advanced Search once we're IN the thread we want as This Thread?

With that said... I've been wanting for a long time the ability to do an Advanced search with a word from the thread title (like Kohberger for the thread title to search), AND also a word from inside posts (like sheath in people's posts). In addition to those 2 criteria, I'd want to also include the Poster's name who made the post (or not. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't). Is that doable?

Thank you!

Not at this time. Advanced-Search is its own page, so when you click on it, you actually leave the thread, and can't refer back to it when you perform the advanced-search operation.

What would be cool is if Advanced-Search allowed you to plug in the thread as a search-parameter. I'm pretty sure that code is behind the firewall XenForo (our forum-hosting company) puts between core-code and the display code I can use.

Never say never, though! I'll put it on the wishlist.

If you select "This thread" before you click advance search, you get a more robust advanced search:

Like with all things computer... there are multiple ways of doing the same thing. lol

You don't even need to select "This thread" before clicking on Adv Search. You can do that once you've clicked on Adv Search by selecting one of the options at the top. Going straight to Adv Search after clicking on Search simply defaults to searching "Everything". You then have 5 other options at the top that you can select to search instead of Everything. :)
