Hello,

I am having trouble with the search function.

I tried looking up several names but had no luck, though they may not be listed here.

One I had entered myself for Cristina Ase. Cristina’s came up, but only for the private discussion.

The other I thought I remembered seeing, is Tyler Weathersby. I thought I might need to start a thread for him. For Mr Weathersby, I ended up copying and pasting the link from a different browser and his thread came up.

I’m using Safari on iPad.

Any suggestions for me?

If you mean browser-based notifications, that depends on your browser.

If it's Chrome, Google's support answer is here. If it's Firefox, Mozilla's support answer is here. On Safari, Apple's support answer is here.

Search is no longer working as of a short while ago, @fraize. I'm either getting NO hits (depending on who I'm searching for, or 1 out of VERY few. Here's one example:

Can anyone clarify if a push notification is similar at all to the loss of the searc within the WS function?

I am inclined to think there might be a difference? But I do not know.

Key point is my WS search is all of a sudden less than helpful today. It seemed fine after the update. But no longer. It only seems to retrieve messages on PM…. and not entirely.

I haven't had search work off and on. I've only had it not show all search results for my searches due to @fraize Rebuilding the Search Index. Not sure when it will be finished. He said it was going slow but it can't be done (I hope) because search results are still lacking.

Ive had so many where the search bar only finds the private conversations surrounding the vitim or associated searched. Many thanks @Gemmie . That makes sense though patience is not my forte...

Yes, I'm getting more results for my DMs (if searching Everywhere) and either none or ONE result for a MT (same search). And the person I'm searching for posts a LOT so I know the rebuilding can't be done. With that said... a rebuild can't rebuild everywhere at once so guessing some DMs are already indexed which is why we're getting results for those. Keep in mind just how many threads are on WS. A LOT. That'll take time but I honestly hoped it would be done by now.

I’ve been trying to search for the same word to see if there’s been any progress but I get results from the last couple of days, a couple of DMs from 2022 and then old results that stop at May 2017. There’s been no change in the old results in the past 10 hours. I hope the indexing is still ongoing.

Leery to add any new missing persons since I can’t reliably tell if they already have one. Guess I’m not much of a sleuth.

Oh wow! That's sure a getcha (can't tell if a missing persons thread already exists before starting one).

Here is a workaround that should work. Google for their name and the word Websleuths. You should be able to tell with what Goog search results come up.

@fraize - Do you have an ETA when your Rebuilding of the Search Index will be completed?

THANKS, Tricia! I knew it was going to take a while, but didn't know how long "a while" would be. lol I'm just thankful it's still churning as opposed to fraize thinking it was done. Cuz if it had been the latter... we'd have a bit of a problem.

I've restarted the job, and it's currently at 1.58-million posts and climbing at a rate at just-under 1-million posts per hour. The new search-engine is MUCH more capable, but we can't set it to sort by reverse-chronological order by default.

So we will have to live with the old search-engine and all its cruftiness for now.
