What happened to Rebecca Zahau?

Rebecca's sister was not at the house when Rebecca supposedly killed herself. Sister has already left. Rebecca was alone in the main house. Adam S. was in the guest house. And Max wasn't being taken off life support when the supposed message was made. Max was diagnosed as brain dead on7.15.11 and confirmed on 7.16.11. At the time of the message, based on what is in his autopsy, he wasn't being taken off life support and wasn't yet diagnosed as brain dead. And according to Rebecca's sister (and supported by what Dina's sister Nina said) the test (MRI) was scheduled on Max for that morning Rebecca was found dead. And according to Nina the extent of damage was found after Rebecca was already dead. I just don't see why in the middle of the night and before that MRI the message would have been left for Rebecca that condition of the child worsened, considering the test was scheduled for the morning to find the extent of the damage.

IMO if she killed or arranged to have someone killed, the LAST thing she would want is to have the case(s) reopened or to draw any attention to it. Also gunning for RZ the way she has would make her the first person on the suspect list.

Interesting point as it did seem late when Jonah left the hospital. Now that I think about it, someone here claimed they were taking shifts. Maybe it could help if we just outline those shifts spent in the hospital and their overlap, if any. Wasn't Jonah already at the hospital for 12 hours on Tuesday? He went to dinner than went back to the hospital at 8pm?

Thanks for the corrections to all of you. And thank you, Katydid, because you point out that no matter the sequence of events, it would not be uncommon for the relationship between RZ and JS to worsen as the severity of Max's accident became known. If anyone needed someone to blame..fairly or not...RZ was the only candidate.

A powerful CEO like RZ may not like to be proven wrong...especiallly to his ex-wife. Maybe he finds wives and lovers easily replacable....and the loss of his son while in the care of a girlfriend could be an insurmountable, maybe unforgivable situation to overcome.

If Max's accident was just that....an accident...how frustrating it would have been for RZ to be on the receiving end of blame. I bet she was knocking herself out to be useful to him. The cruelest thing of all would have been to have him dismiss her from his life with a voicemail. And how many girlfriends would figure they could restart a relationship with a man who blamed them for the loss of his son. Does not get more hopeless than that!

And just days ago, life had been perfect!

If the police know what JS said in the voicemail, that might be the lynchpin to declaring this a suicide. JS certainly has not set up any memorial charities for RZ, or has he? He has moved on.

I think anyone in RZ's position would be watching every action of her beloved, parsing every word...looking for reassurance. "Dina will kill me." because this happened while Max was in MY care..but what about JS? If he turned on her, her whole life would change...emotionally and financially. It would be back to office jobs and rent payments. She had no legal status . RZ would just be OUT.

I think she realized that her life with JS was probably over.

That being the case, and if JS adored RZ...why wasn't he the first in line accusing his ex wife and her sister? Why would this bereaved lover allow them to get away woth murder? He is a powerful man with many resources, financial and otherwise.

I guess you mean that RZ was really not important in his life. I'd like to think otherwise. But she may have come to that realization...you are right.

Her voice messages were erased. Because police didn't test her phone right away (took them a long time), it was impossible to recover by the time they finally got to examining her phone.
So, all they know is what the alleged voice mail sender told them.

And it could be a half-truth. "Max is getting worse and I want you out of there before I come home again."

But he certainly is not setting up memorials for RZ...or pleading with police to investigate DS...or hiring independent experts to look into her death.

I think he knows why she did what she did.

But he can keep quiet and we can keep guessing. Only really his ex wife and his dead girlfriend are slandered all over the Internet by the uncertainly.

My opinion only. We all can only just guess. Edited to add: I feel a responsibility to add that he is dealing with incredible loss..times two. So though I can think of a reply...I almost regret making it.

He wants a resolution because of the "unrelenting and often vicious speculation." I cannot read the last paragraph, but it almost reads like he wants to review not because he questions the verdict of suicide, but because he is upset that media continues to speculate.

Looking back at some of the media archives from last summer, I ran across the search warrant for the house. Among the items taken was "document addressed to Jonah." I don't remember if the contents of this document were ever discussed. (Sorry...I haven't been here for the long term.)
