What makes the JBR case fascinating to you?

Heyya SD.

I think it may be this deck?

ty madeleine. Thought provoking article, but I'll keep my thoughts to myself! lol.

"Alas, my longtime contestant is not a high-school dropout stripper who is pregnant with her second child while struggling to pay her rent. Instead, she is college-bound, awesome, and your POTUS 2036."

"I am not ashamed to proclaim loud and proud that I am a proponent of children's pageantry. Indeed, I have enjoyed this activity with all of my girls and it churns my stomach when our fun little hobby is attacked by morons who know little about the hard work that goes into competition and nothing about the benefits reaped by participants."

"Pageant parents have been accused of everything from being abusive because of the makeup and tanning involved, to training our daughters for a life of debauchery on a stripper pole."

"The Catholic Church believes that pageants for little girls are a magnet for pedophiles. Really? It seems to me that my children are more at risk for seduction while giving confession than while on stage competing for trophies and a tiara."

"To insinuate that we tart up our babies (or worse, inject them with toxins) for the pleasure of the lowest human scum in society is beyond insulting and begs for a smackdown that would make Jerry Springer proud."

"our fun little pastime"

:crazy::crazy: DELUSIONAL....(whatever gets her through the night)
I'm sorry but sometimes I just can't keep my opinion to myself.

OMGoodness! They don't even look like real little girls! I take it back, this goes way beyond delusional. These folks are disturbed. I'm not talking about mothers who put their little girls in their Sunday best and enter them in a pageant at the mall. The mothers who have these portraits made are only kidding themselves, surely. I wonder what these kids really think about all this?

Joeskidbeck....the answer to what these kids really think about all this:

If this doesn't speak the truth, I don't know what does...

I'm so incredibly sad.

JonBenet's in that video from 2:27-2:51 and 3:14-3:37

Yes-and she makes the newest generation seem way too 'much". JB looks pretty and sweet, even elegant - when she is not tarted up in a Vegas Showgirl outfit. These modern-day versions look trashy to me. Their sweet little faces tell quite a story.

See what I mean about the fake photo-shopped eyes? There is no bridge of the nose either. That photo of the brunette in the rose-colored outfit looks like an ILLUSTRATION, not a photo of a live little girl. Reminds me of the big-eyed Keane illustrations that were so popular in the '60s.
The sad-faced pretty little blonde in Swan Brooner. (sp?) She is older now, not in the pageant circuit any more, and I believe she had some trauma in her life since then. I think I read her mother died? I'll have to google her. She also doesn't look like what you'd think she would at her age now. Not nearly the world-class beauty all these moms are anticipating their little girls will be. Isn't it sad to think that when that happens these little girls might feel less loved by their moms?

I read that Swan and a brother now live with an older sister.
As a teenager she looks sweet and cute. But looking at her childhood pageant photos, I'd never have recognized her now.

I just have to say how grateful I am that the JBR forum at WS exists because I was reading posts at the JBR topix forum, and I've got to say, that place is a cesspool for weirdos. The posts either make no sense, insult other posters, use lots of exclamation points, or use all caps. Thank goodness the posters on Topix I find the most annoying don't post on WS. I suppose it's the difference between moderated and unmoderated forums.

Reminder, WS is not a religious debate forum. There's plenty of those out there if that's what you'd like to discuss. Just don't do it here. :tyou:

Yes! DeeDee.
Thanks for the flashback!

Margaret Keane:
http://www.keane-eyes.com/

The world famous "Big Eye" paintings had their beginning in San Francisco over 50 years ago, by the artist Margaret Keane. In time they also became known and referred to as "Waifs," "Keane," "Sad Eyes," and many other titles, all depicting the unique styles of this very creative woman. You may be surprised to hear the artist is a woman. You see, for many years she was married to a man who claimed credit for what she painted. To prove she was in fact the artist and not her former husband, she painted in court before a Federal Judge and jury, an original oil on canvas painting. When her ex-husband was asked to paint by the judge, his reply was: "I can't today, because I have a sore shoulder." Needless to say Margaret won the case and she continues to paint those Big Eyes we have come to love so dearly.

The fact that it could happen to anyone, the fact that it's been 14 grueling years, and we're not any closer, the fact that she was so incredibly pretty, it's classic old detective story, it's a puzzle and we have all the pieces, we just need to figure out where they fit.

She was just a little girl.

In a weird way, this case reminds me of the show, Desperate Housewives. DH is all about perfect families in the perfect neighborhood who all have secrets. It's all about how outsiders only see what a family wants them to see; they don't see what's happening beneath the surface. From the information that's been released about the Ramseys, we know they weren't the perfect family. But prior to JonBenet's murder, Patsy did her best to make sure that everyone in Boulder, Atlanta, and Charlevoix thought they were perfect. Patsy was always entertaining guests or organizing something at High Peaks, the family lived in a historic home in an exclusive neighborhood, which was paid for my John's CEO salary. They were always jetting off to their different homes or even on a weekend getaway to NYC. Then, for someone in the family to snap one day and kill the trophy daughter is something almost out of a dark comedy, if it hadn't actually happened.
