Where and when?

I watched the other day as a cold case started with both options.. A list for both. The job is to remove or add until they get to an empty column and a full one.

But you start with both options to find the truth.

That is how I figure this case out..

You're forgetting one thing, folks: this is not a COLD case. It's so hot it's radioactive. Nobody wants to touch it.

That is one perspective. Looks pretty cold to me..

Ask anybody who WORKED on it, Scarlett.

I can think of someone who worked on it that doesn't feel that way. I can see other investigators that don't feel that way, A DA a judge, And other people coming forward saying they do not hold the same perspective.
So it is just a matter of opinion at this point.

I was thinking of the ORIGINAL investigators, specifically.

The mother did this crime. The ransom letter was her in hand writing and she was reported to have been tired/sleepless Christmas morning when the investigators came.

that's my view from 1000 miles up.

When I watch cold cases get solved, They start with the obvious and remove them one by one.

You are the one that said they start with the OBVIOUS!! Obvious is ALWAYS the family. Now it's "they start with both". There you go again, trying to spin your way out of it! I either think before posting, or admit when I contradict myself, but that's just me.

With rational discussion, we tend to change our theories over time.

When JB was killed, I was working for a large newspaper in the east. Not long after the murder, IDI was being discussed around our newsroom. One of our editors piped up and said in so many words: "JB was a constant bed-wetter and it drove her mother crazy. JB wet the bed Christmas night. The mother was exhausted, snapped, went into a rage and slammed JB in the head knocking her out. The child could not be revived; the mother had to kill her so as not to be charged with child abuse." We all sat there with our mouths hanging open. It was incredible speculation but it became the popular theory at that time.

Over the years we would speculate about this astounding murder. My media colleagues didn't think IDI credible, but we remained open-minded and changed our theories constantly. Most popular was PDI, followed by JDI. I don't recall any discussion during the 90's to early 00's of BR, but as time went by BDI made sense to some of us. Just when I'm convinced I've got it, a detail I've overlooked changes my mind yet again.

One detail I haven't been able to shake is the blood on the pillow. It made me consider the bedroom the scene of the molestation, since if JB screamed, or the molester heard someone coming, the finger/hand which may have had blood on it, was removed and her mouth covered to prevent any noise. Could be wrong here, but never thought seriously of a head strike to cover up a scream, but one hand to restrain her and the other to cover her mouth to prevent any additional noise or call out. moo

No it isn't. Obvious is not family.. Obvious is assuming it was someone else and then looking at the family also.

So we just assume it was the family? Look how many cases have been botched doing that!

It is more important to look outside and try and track down a criminal who did this. The family is there and will always be there. They are known. The best way to make sure this crime gets solved is to look for someone who could have done this outside the family. If they had preserved the scene and the house, they may have solved it by now.

Any detective/investigator will confirm that the suspect list begins with the family and family will remain on it, even while following other leads, until the family can be ruled out.

questfortrue,
I agree. Why Kolar thinks downstairs is the primary crime-scene beats me. There is a lot of evidence in JonBenet's bedroom to suggest this is where she was molested.

Your detail might be important forensic evidence. Some people consider the bloodstain artifact, or a special case, explained away with the pillow being taken down to the basement and back up again.

Head strike to cover a scream is plausible but given the circumstances simply not required since a hand over the mouth is sufficient.

UKGuy, OK, JB was unconscious as a result of BR restraining her by the neck, but not strangling her. And, despite attempts by PR or JR or both, JB could NOT be revived? That's some deep unconscious.

Then, why bother with the head blow as staging when they could have just gone directly to strangulation which would serve the purpose of covering up the neck-squeeze, hurrying her along to death and help support the intruder theory?

You must think BR not strong enough to deliver the head blow that cracked JB's skull but the neck restraint makes sense in terms of shutting her up and stopping her escape to tell on him.

Chelly,
I'll publish my basic BDI shortly outlining why I think events unfolded as they did. The clue lies in the staging or not if you favor some other RDI theory.

Thanks UKGuy, I have been awaiting the arrival of that report for longer than you know. I keep suspecting a tie up game is involved.....or not.:blushing:

Actually, JR said that they CHOSE to put that date on the grave. He claimed that they "didn't actually know" when she died, but chose that date because Christmas would have made it even more "notable" so the "world could see what it did to JonBenet on Christmas" (his words).

But that being said-- yep, they knew.

Yes, that is in their book. I need to go dig that out and find the page for that.

They knew when she died.

Just finding this thread- like a Clue Game. In the basement Christmas night by John with Patsy assisting with the cover-up and writing the Ransom Note. It was a sexual abuse game gone awry.:moo:

in addition to knowing the truth about when she died, superdave suggests that

the idea of putting Christmas on the headstone was to add to their aura of victimhood.
