Found Deceased WI - Jacob Baer, 7, missing from a park, Two Rivers, 30 Nov 2024

Press release from Two Rivers Police Department:

Release Date: December 1, 2024, 12:00 PM

It is with great sadness that we report that the body of 7-year Jacob Baer was recovered this morning from the West Twin River in Two Rivers. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Jacob Baer.

On 11/30/24 Officers were dispatched for a possible missing child complaint at 1818 School St. The missing child, Jacob Baer, was described as a 7-year-old autistic boy who was playing outside when his parent lost sight of him. An immediate search was conducted using many resources throughout the night, as well as an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A Missing and Endangered Alert, as well as a local alert, was also sent out through our Emergency Operations Center. Search efforts located several items belonging to Jacob and they were recovered from the water last night. This morning the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was able to identify a possible location, in 5 to 6 feet of water, for what was believed to be Jacob. Recovery operations continued until late this morning. A body was recovered from that location and was positively identified as Jacob Baer.

This tragic event is a reminder of how dangerous the ice can be on our waterways, especially this time of year when it is very thin. Please stay off the ice and keep your children safe by monitoring them closely when around any waterway.

We also ask that you respect the family’s right to privacy. This incident is still under investigation and no further information will be released at this time

How does one go about changing the title of this thread to the latest sad and tragic outcome? I wrote to the moderators twice with the police update, but it seems there must be another way or ?

I usually 'Report" using the link on the bottom left of a post in the thread and then as to change title, merge, etc.

RIP little one.

Many autistic children don’t realise dangers which is why they are more at risk to situations like this.

My thoughts go out to the boys family especially the father who is likely blaming himself

Two Rivers police confirmed to FOX 11 on Tuesday that the death of 7-year old Jacob Baer was a tragic accident and there was no foul play.

"Jacob, from all accounts, liked to play in the woods. He loved nature and being outside, he loved to run, so it was not uncommon for him to run around and run away from one of his parents when they called him right away and that type of thing. So, it was difficult for the parent, at that time, to know where he had gone," said Capt. Andrew Raatz with the Two Rivers Police Department.
