I believe police were called about a domestic issue between two woman who were outside fighting when Jacob pulled up to pick up his son or sons.

From there I don't know how he ended up in the fray.

TY. I read "neighbours said" but wondering if LE have stated exactly what they were responding to?

I think I have found it in this link. Police were called at 5.11 PM to a domestic incident.

Kenosha police shoot Black man as children watch from a car, attorney says

Kenosha officers were called to a domestic incident about 5:11 p.m., police said. The shooting unfolded on a residential street. It is unclear who called 911 or what happened before the recording begins.

In the video clip, an African American man walks around the front of a gray SUV with two officers a step or two behind him, one with his weapon trained on the man's back. As the Black man enters the driver side door of his car, the nearest officer grabs the tail of his tank top and seven shots are heard.

The man entering the car appears to go limp. A sustained car horn blares. A woman standing nearby appears to jump up and down in anguish.

Crump said the man was leaving the scene after "breaking up a fight between two women."

It is not clear from the video if both officers opened fire. The second officer has his gun out as the shots are heard, the video clip shows.

Thanks JG. I just found it too and edited my post.

Jacob Blake's family has retained prominent Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump

The family of Jacob Blake has retained prominent Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump to represent Blake in the case.

According to a release from Crump's office and eyewitness reports, Blake had been de-escalating a "domestic incident" when officers arrived and drew their weapons.

Blake began walking away toward a van, video shows. According to Crump's office, Blake was checking on his children, who were inside the van. Police then opened fire as Blake appeared to be not complying with orders. Audio indicates seven shots were fired, although it is not clear how many struck Blake.

CAIR Calls for 'Immediate Action' Against Wisconsin Officers Who Tased, Shot Unarmed Black Man Jacob Blake in Back, in Front of Children

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today called for "immediate action against any and all officers who violated the law" during a police encounter Sunday in Kenosha, Wis., that ended when an officer shot an unarmed African-American man numerous times in the back in front of his young children.

That shooting, captured on cellphone video, shows Jacob Blake walking around the front of his SUV to his driver-side door as officers follow him with their guns pointed at him. As Blake opens the door and attempts to enter the car, an officer grabs him from behind and opens fire while Blake has his back turned. Seven shots were fired. Blake was hospitalized in serious condition. Three officers were placed on administrative leave.

I find it odd the police officer wasn't more physically aggressive in trying to prevent him from getting into the car. He only grabbed at his shirt tail.
Unless of course, he had a knife.

Former Vice President (and Democratic nominee for President) Joe Biden:

"Yesterday in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Jacob Blake was shot seven times in the back as police attempted to restrain him from getting into his car. His children watched from inside the car and bystanders watched in disbelief. And this morning, the nation wakes up yet again with grief and outrage that yet another Black American is a victim of excessive force. This calls for an immediate, full and transparent investigation and the officers must be held accountable.

These shots pierce the soul of our nation. Jill and I pray for Jacob’s recovery and for his children.

Equal justice has not been real for Black Americans and so many others. We are at an inflection point. We must dismantle systemic racism. It is the urgent task before us. We must fight to honor the ideals laid in the original American promise, which we are yet to attain: That all men and women are created equal, but more importantly that they must be treated equally."

_

Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and many others were among those to tweet about the shooting as well (see their remarks at link).

From what is known I see no justification unless he was going for a gun.
Problem is, no one knows whether or not he was going for a gun in the car.

Follow directions of the officer. Don’t reach into a vehicle.

He could have been reaching for a lollipop. He could have been reaching for a gun. Would you be willing to bet your life, literally, that he was not reaching for a gun?

There is a history of resisting arrest with Mr Blake, sad to report. From 2015:

Police: K9 Dozer Helps Subdue Man Who Pulled Gun at Bar | Local News I Racine County Eye - Racine, Wisconsin

Jacob Blake, 24, of Racine, was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count of resisting arrest causing a soft tissue injury to a police officer and one misdemeanor count each of carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, endangering safety-use of a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct. Senator Tammy Baldwin releases statement on Kenosha shooting of Jacob Blake

“The video from Kenosha of a Black man being shot is terrifying to watch and we need a full and independent investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice to get all the facts about this police shooting. As we pray for Jacob Blake to live, let peaceful protests lead the way to the answers we seek, and justice.”

Rep. Tip McGuire statement on officer-involved shooting

“I am shocked and horrified by what we saw tonight. In our city, a man was shot in the back seven times by police. We do not know the full details at this time, but I have been in contact with the Attorney General’s office this evening, and I am requesting an immediate investigation. My thoughts are with Jacob Blake as we all pray for his recovery.

“The status quo is unacceptable. Our community, our state, and our nation must take action to fundamentally change the systems and policies that time after time put black lives at risk. Black lives matter, and we must guarantee that the institutions entrusted with the duty of public safety values those lives.”

Black man shot multiple times by Wisconsin police; video of incident sparks social media backlash, protests

Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., tweeted late Sunday night, in apparent reference to the shooting, “We shouldn’t have to see one more video of a Black human being brutalized and/or gunned down by police in a clear case of excessive or unwarranted force.”

She added, “Anybody who doesn’t believe we are beyond a state of emergency is choosing to lack empathy and awareness.”

This is all just so sad and unnecessary, if he would have just obeyed the law. And/or not resisted arrest.

If resisting arrest will qualify one for a "get out of jail free card", then all of humanity will resist arrest! The Laws be damned!

It is obvious that even with a prior arrest of the same, Mr Blake did not learn anything. And sadly, his children had to witness this. What a sad lesson to be learned

It doesn't even matter if he was going for some kind of weapon, he acted as if he was which is justification enough for the police to shoot. What do people think, that the cops are obliged to stand there and wait for a criminal to take a shot at them first?

As for the race baiting in response to this, it's ridiculous and irresponsible. Anyone of any race would get shot if they behaved like that.
The police were reported to have been yelling at him to 'drop the knife'. So, if he had a knife, he refused to drop it, he opened the car door with his kids in there (knife in hand), who's to say he wasn't going to do something to the kids? No one knows at this point what the heck he was going to do in that car.

Jacob Blake's 3 sons were in the back of the car when the police shot him. A friend said it was one of the boys' birthdays.

Jacob Blake had his kids in the car. One of them was celebrating a birthday, a friend said. "It was his son's birthday. His son was in the car with him when he got shot," a man who said he was Blake's friend said. https://twitter.com/CherneyAmharaTV/status/1297882110217408515?s=20 "This man is friend’s with #JacobBlake and he said Blake had just left his house before the shooting, he also tells me it was Blake’s sons birthday, and his son was in the car with him. The child, watched as his dad was shot by police... on his birthday. #kenoshawisconsin"

People close to Blake and people on social media have said the police could have deescalated the situation instead of shooting him.

"They were called here. It could have been deescalated," Blake's friend said. "I mean, I see him getting in his car, but you guys got Tasers. You could have Tased him. You could have found any other tactic." He added that Blake "wasn't a threat to nobody."

They already had tased him and it apparently didn't work.

From his arrest in 2015:

"Believing the driver was armed, police conducted a high risk traffic stop, the complaint reads, and ordered Blake to put his hands out the window of the vehicle. Instead, Blake exited the SUV and started walking toward officers and ignored commands to get down on the ground. Officers forced Blake to the ground and ordered him to put his hands behind his back. When Blake refused to comply, K9 Dozer was deployed to force the defendant into compliance.

While police were at the hospital with Blake so he could be treated for the wound he obtained from K9 Dozer, officers say he refused to answer questions, but he did submit to a legal blood draw to determine his level of intoxication. At the time he was taken into custody, Blake was searched and police say he had a holster on his hip but no gun. A subsequent search of the SUV turned up a black handgun on the floor behind the drivers seat. A box of ammunition was also found, and two loaded magazines were discovered in Blake’s coat."
