This is interesting, do parents make losers with an entitlement mentality from enabling?

One could even stretch as far as to say enabling can be one of the biggest contributing factors to entitlement mentality. Sprinkle in a mix of good old nuts and isolation ; there you have the recipe for narcissistic psychopathology.

Doubt he "hired" them. His folks could have, but my guess is they were either assigned to him, or they realize that this is a case an attorney can earn some serious chops, if not cash up front. If I were a defense attorney, I might jump at this case: no forensic evidence tying my client to the crime scene; the possibility of trying to foist the planning and execution of the crime on someone else; the knowledge that the prosecution would want to avoid making Jayme take the stand.

I don't doubt that Patterson is the guy (no kidding), but a good defense attorney has some cards to play with here.

So sorry, bellyup- this is a very unlikely and isolated crime. It shouldn’t be the norm and affect every day for most of us. It just makes me wonder how he came to know Jayme was in the house, and when he knew the right time to hit. She was the target, fwiw. I tend to leave blinds open for my plants and so my cat can look out. It’s not fair for you, or anyone else, to have to worry about these things,

It’s been an amazing couple of days and so great she was found. I appreciate that great team who brought her in big shoes to the police and to her awesome family.

This is the way that I have felt for many years. When I first started writing true crime 15 years ago, I went through a stage where I took steps to protect myself that verged on paranoia. Reading, researching, and writing about some of the worst crimes in our country made me terrified. Over the years, that has lessened. I am not naive by any means, but I also refuse to let fear dictate my life anymore. We built a fire earlier today and now the house is stuffy. It's almost 10pm and we're all sitting here with all the doors propped open and the curtains wide.

Sorry but where did you see anything saying the Patterson's owned Jennie-O? That just doesn't sound right.

"Jennie-O Turkey Store is a brand name of turkey products. It is now a subsidiary of the Hormel Foods Corporation in Willmar, Minnesota."
Sorry misread the article, will delete my post.

Speaking of the aunt & another mention of being proud: while I'm feeling giddy: starting to think we should have a drinking game for every time someone says they are 'proud' of Jayme....

If you don't know what I'm talking about: good for you: because pages were spent on such silliness on whether it was 'right' to feel proud of Jayme

I do: drink up me hearties yo ho

Must be nice to have a Daddy who lets you live in a house for free, and gets you attorneys when you kill people in cold blood and steal a teen girl.

Seriously, this guy doesn't work, looks like he was kicked to the curb after basic training. He worked ONE day at Jennie-O, and quit.

This is interesting, do parents make losers with an entitlement mentality from enabling?
Yeah, I'm not understanding the unemployment thing. I can see how that small town might not have jobs....so move. Get the lead out and move out, kid!

Just imagine if he had a job that kept him busy so he didn't have time or energy to concoct elaborate plans to kill and kidnap. And, who knows, maybe an employed young man could even get a date.

He seems capable of working, so why wasn't he? Is there a reason we don't know?

At times, yes.

I've worked with people who thought they could say or do anything to other employees, because the caregivers had provided a financial safety-net. There was talk about purchasing homes for them.

The caregivers of one person I worked with daily provided financial support in lieu of emotional support. And, he, in turn, had nothing good to say about his caregivers. Also, according to him, his family "didn't even know where his sister was". Said it like it was a big joke.

Yes indeed. And LE deserve the credit for it as well. They were definitely working on AND emotionally invested in this case all along. It was difficult to solve, being that there was no connection to the family, for one. I congratulate them.
Yes, LE worked hard on this case, were heavily invested, and had much at stake. But it was Jayme who saved herself. LE had zero idea what was behind the attack/abduction, and zero idea who was behind it. In hindsight, that is completely understandable. But it was Jayme who saved herself, period. And it stuck in the craw of many, many people that the initial press conference - after the case was broken - featured a lot of self-puffery and peacocking from LE officials. Distasteful, to say the least. Thankfully, the 2nd press conference struck a better tone.

.
I read
Something like it on Heavy... that he’d have people over and lock her in a room while they were there.
Maybe I didn't catch it in the heavy article but did it say this happened while he was gone?

Wow.
But maybe the perp had her locked up, and threatened her with god knows what if she tried to contact a visitor for help ?

My opinion is that her relatives should stop with the photos ... just seems like a privacy issue for this teen.
IDK....I'm wondering if he told her things to mess with her brain. On the day she escaped, she said JP told her he would be back around midnight, but LE found him nearby looking for her. Maybe he told her lies about having people come over?? I mean, nobody seems to know him - who would come over?

Just guessing here - not fact or even a theory. Just seems like maybe he lied to her.

katydid23: yes, I think that it could be possible: they could have 'conference' or banquet rooms, etc. where parties could be held. If I am not mistaken there are pics of Jayme at the casino

Barron is small: the casino is the 'it' place to do anything...

MOO

BTW: I didn't like JPs attorneys language regardless.....if I were in that situation I'd say: 'no comment'
Casino is located in Turtle Lake, WI, for clarification.

I wonder about that. Life has choices and there are legal consequences. He cold blooded murdered her parents and took Jayme. I am not a fan of the death penalty, but did see a quote here earlier where having a death penalty could compel the defendant to plea deal with a confession for life in prison. That likely won’t happpen here, though, since WI doesn’t have the death penalty option. Hopefully, with the weight of the evidence, his attorneys will advise him, the best thing to do is plead guilty. If he pleads guilty, Jayme won’t have to testify, if that’s her choice. We will see Monday what plea Jake Patterson enters, if that is an option so soon.

All defendants initially plead not guilty. A guilty plea or a plea bargain would come much later in the proceedings.

In uk affair can be used to describe an event or situation... Certainly not defending it and think poor choice just how I interpreted it..
