I was just about to post another link to this.

What's strange is that there doesn't seem to be any obvious reason to lie about all this. I mean, it's not like the bad guy didn't already know exactly what happened in that house that night, so what would be the purpose of this specific misinformation?
I also wondered about all the FB postings...we're they just assuming they were reading FB posts (perp or Jayme?

<modsnipped quoted post and off topic reply>

Jayme went when she needed to go because that's how our bodies are made. Likewise, JP went when he needed to go. There's no alternative, not for anyone without access to facilities.
This is not to say either one of them ever wore or didn't wear the contents of the box in the trash. I have no idea. We just can't know right now, and may never know.

Quoted down below is a paragraph from the article at the link below the quote. Patterson's atty. Jones does caution that prosecutors have AMASSED 30 banker's boxes full of evidence that defense has yet seen. I think once the evidence is released, and it sounds like Jake's atty's may receive that evidence after the preliminary hearing, I think a whole lot more will be learned that will shed a lot more light on exactly what went down before, during and after this murder/kidnapping that will answer a lot of questions that so many of us have.

(ETA, I am not seeking info. with regard to what degree or how Jake may have abused or assaulted Jayme, I am interested in how she was held, when not under the bed, what is the true story behind the "taurus", was there a plan in place for when he returned to his home with her as captive, what was found on computers, etc... and of course, a motive)

If the defense atty's receive the evidence at or after the Feb. 6th hearing will that evidence then be made public.? There are so many missing pieces with regard to this case simply because not too much evidence has been released. (30 banker's boxes, 12 x 10 x 15, is quite a bit of evidence IMO.)

"Jones said the defense team will evaluate Patterson's statements to determine whether they were given voluntarily and if they're true. He cautioned that prosecutors have amassed 30 banker's boxes full of evidence, but that the defense likely won't receive any of it, let alone review it, until after Patterson's Feb. 6 preliminary hearing."

It's an extension of the fact that Jayme was kept confined for up to 12 hours in the weird bed cage thing.
Okay, well, my guess would be that he kept her pretty underfed and not provided enough water either... that'll cut down on bathroom needs somewhat... :/:(

I wasn't meaning to blame the father. I was saying I don't have enough info to understand the living situation clearly. It seems bizarre to me. It seems off to me. Are you saying you think the father knew he was dangerous and unstable? Is that why JTP was allowed to live alone in the cabin? I'm not sure I have seen anything to indicate the father knew his son was a danger to others before this crime. But if I thought my son was potentially dangerous (as you said) I wouldn't let him live in my old house alone. If I didn't want him in stores (your words not mine) I would not let him live unsupervised in a vacant vacation property with access to many old family vehicles. I can only assume at this point that the father didn't think his son was a danger. Perhaps he only thought he was a little odd? But I still can't reconcile that idea with the unusual living situation. Maybe more info will come out and it will all make sense to me. I agree with you about the jobs. I think he only applied for work to be able to tell his family he was trying or he was somehow getting a government benefit that required he apply for jobs every so often. JMO.

If the family had no evidence that JTP was a danger to himself or others they could not require him to get a mental health evaluation. It could be that his anger and laziness/living-like-a-pig tendencies were just too much for any of them to stand on a daily basis. I wonder if the fact that he turned 21 caused the father to give him an ultimatum on paying rent or getting out. Maybe JTP was told they would be renting the cabin for the next summer season so he better get a job and pay up? MOO

Re: the Taurus. Was JTP keeping the red car in the garage rather than outside with the others? I don't remember seeing photos of the inside of the garage - empty or also full of junk?

You just have to provoke me, don't you? Okay...

I wonder if the Taurus has a trailer hitch on it? :D

I am going to 'bite' on the trailer hitch question. I will bypass diaper boxes, catheters, and that poor patio door. What are your thoughts in narrowing our focus? Not that we need to focus on that one item, but it might help alleviate the tension in the room. :)

ETA: Still so very happy these 10 days later that Jayme has her thread in the "Located" Forum, with that wonderful prefix, "Found Alive." Way to GO Jayme!

I don’t think mom has lived in Haugen long. He lived with dad in the house in Gordon. Mom moved around not the killer

Maybe. But the article says:
"It’s here where the 21-year-old Patterson spent most of his days, living in a series of small towns dotting the highway before settling in at his father’s remote cabin 9 miles east of Gordon."
And:
"As Frey moved from one local town to another over the years, Jake began spending more time at his father’s home in Gordon, according to Victoria Fisher, whose son Dylan was a close friend of Jake’s through middle school and high school."

Something just came to mind. The day that he left the house and went to his mother's, what time did he leave do we think? Was it around the time that news was hitting, incorrectly, that Jayme had been found.

I think he sent the job application from his mom's computer. I thought I remembered seeing that was sent around noon or one. Just going on my memory on the time.

Okay, since I *just* opened this juice box, let me stray back on topic...

In those pics of JP's house, which shall be referred to from here on out as "The Dump", there was a pic of a bedroom in the basement, which I'm assuming was the sisters room, but not where Jayme was kept. Weird bed cage thing was allegedly in his bedroom. Has there been any photos of this room released?

If only they had ran the plates. They could have tracked him down, and questioned him, as a witness at least.

They probably didn't see the plate number. Does a cop's dash cam only see forward or in all directions? There was no front plate, to pick up on the dash cam. The light on the rear plate was out so there probably wasn't enough light to pick up the number from tail lights, even if they had a rear-facing cam. Probably something they were trying to get with all their pleas for cameras.

Was this a mainstream media? I do remember that one mainstream media had said he went to his mother's that day, and I think I saw that he did an application the day of or the day before, but I don't recall the mainstream Media Link saying it was noon. Am I correct in all of this? I assume folks have seen the media on these to confirm? Thanks.

I believe in the United States they have been required to have the safety latches in the trunk. Since 2002. I'm not sure when they require them to be glow in the dark. Here is a harrowing real life video of kidnapping victim escaping due to having such.

It seems the most common name for them are Escape latches, but other people do indeed call them other things.

Thank you! Escape latch...I’ve heard of that. Now I know what it is. I had to stop driving about 10yrs ago because of my eye disease, so I thought maybe it was something new that I wasn’t aware of. It’s SUPER creepy that he called it a ‘kidnap cord’.

Your call, giant grasslands creature! I'm game for any topic not involving urine. :)

I have one. I'm not sure how to really explain this. It could be that the investigators just ran with these explanations, and there is nothing to this. Or, could there be something missing?

Please note: read anything dealing with the 'CC' with caution. They did not pull any punches in describing the horror that took place in the Closs' home.

Reading the Criminal Complaint (CC) I noted these 'differences.' I'm not sure if I may have missed any discussion on this, but here goes:

Jayme

"J.L.C. stated she heard a gunshot and knew her father had just been killed. J.L.C. stated her mother had her cell phone with her and used the phone to call 911. J.L.C. stated Patterson broke down the bathroom door and told her mother to hang up the phone. J.L.C. stated Patterson told her mother to put tape over J.L.C.’s mouth, which her mother did, and then Patterson shot her mother. J.L.C. stated both her mother and father were shot one time.
J.L.C. stated the first time she saw Patterson was in the bathroom where she and her mother were hiding. J.L.C. stated Patterson was dressed in black from head to toe, including a face mask, hat, and gloves.
J.L.C. stated that Patterson taped her hands and ankles together and dragged her out to his car. J.L.C. described the tape as being black in color. J.L.C. stated Patterson taped her hands such that her hands were behind her back."

JTP

"The defendant stated he pulled out a flattened partial roll of black colored Gorilla brand duct tape, handed it to Denise, and told her to place the tape over J.L.C.’s mouth. The defendant stated Denise was struggling to do that and he set the shotgun down on the bathroom sink. The defendant stated he took the tape from Denise and wrapped tape around J.L.C.’s mouth, and completely around her head. The defendant stated he then had J.L.C. stand up where he then took tape and placed it around her wrists, with her palms together to restrain her hands and arms. The defendant stated he then took the tape and wrapped it around J.L.C.’s ankles. The defendant stated he then removed J.L.C. from the bathtub. With J.L.C. standing bound next to him in the bathroom, the defendant stated..."

All BBM for clarity.

Am I reading too much into this? And do I even know what I'm trying to determine?

You know I Googled ''emergency trunk release' and got several hits, but not one of them called it Kidnap Cord. Super Creepy!!

Those are contradictory statements, for sure. My first thought is that JTP embellished this portion to stay in his own sick narrative of having total control over the situation. If I'm on a jury, I'm believing Jayme's account over his...

  • #976
Ok. Think whatever you like, but it is not denigrating the neighbors to state they had incorrect info and gave inconsistent accounts. Those are facts. LE has spoken and said their account was unsubstantiated.
LE also said the perp didn't go in farther than five feet so there is that.

  • #977
Only the back plate was stolen. So the front plate would be a match.
But maybe it would have been to blurry to see anyway.

He took off both plates, and put the stolen plate on the back. The front was empty. That's why they couldn't get the plate number off their dash cam.

I think Jayme is just trying to evade talking about the details. Kind of like..it hurts, it's bitter...spit it out. JP loves talking about the gore.jmo

I think these differences have to do with Jayme being in distress and shock or JP exaggerating to make himself look more in control of the situation than he was. She may not have been able to recall exact details from that moment in time 3 months later from her horror and shock. With that said I think she did an excellent job recalling details. It was close enough to show he is a disturbed, egocentrical, narcissist 🤬🤬🤬.
