Accused Jayme Closs kidnapper Jake Patterson appears in court, waives preliminary hearing
Jake Patterson, accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs after murdering her parents, appeared in person Wednesday in Barron County Circuit Court and waived his preliminary hearing.

Patterson, who appeared before Barron County Circuit Judge James C. Babler, made his initial appearance Jan. 14 via video from the county jail.

In a preliminary hearing, a judge determines if there is probable cause that a felony was committed, and if it was committed by the person who prosecutors charged.

It's not uncommon for a defendant to waive the preliminary hearing. By doing so, Patterson acknowledged that there is enough evidence for a case to go forward without admitting guilt.

Patterson is scheduled to return to court for an arraignment hearing on March 27.

 yes I did

Yes I saw that. I thought my eyes deceived me. We need a screenshot of that. I was wondering if I imagined that when they were bringing him in, HLN only showed the back of his head once he was seated but I thought I caught a glimpse during live net stream. Not sure what to make if his expression leaving the courtroom?

Man that was quick!

Yes, on the way in and the way out, he smiled a bit and nodded at someone to our left. That seems to be the defense side of the courtroom. Could he have been nodding to his father?

That was a fast hearing. Definitely want to see the rewind. JP entered and left the courtroom grinning like a ghoul. Although he was looking in the direction of his family. JP waived his right to a prelim examination.
When everyone else left the courtroom JP's lawyer's gathered around his family members and said something like "We have to make sure that camera is off before we talk to them." Then they decided to move to the conference room because the court camera wasn't going off. Looked like his sister was there today along with his dad and brother.

I think this is the very reason they withdrew looking for the two vehicles, one being red.

Imo once the FBI assessed the entire situation, and surrounding circumstances in total they told Fitzgerald he must drop asking others to look for the vehicles.

I think they told him 'you are going to get Jayme killed if the suspect finds out you know the vehicle he could possibly be driving so you have to back off or this is not going to end well for the kidnapped victim.'

They already knew this guy had a short fuse, and hair trigger.

Jmo though

I'm pretty sure the man in the lower left of the screen when Jake walks in and out is his father. It looks like Jake sought him out and gave him a nod.

Ok it appears that must be what I saw then. I guess it was him smiling at this dad.

Well, he doesn't need to be smiling!!!!

(Oh that made my blood pressure rise!!!!)

(I don’t want to see a single smile out of him!!!! I don’t care who’s in the court room!!!

(Blood boiling)

I'm inclined to believe this as well - at this point, I think the FBI profiled the killer and based on the initial crime scene, determined JP wanted JC and JC only and would likely keep her alive for some period of time. This is pure speculation by me.
