Ok it appears that must be what I saw then. I guess it was him smiling at this dad.

Well, he doesn't need to be smiling!!!!

(Oh that made my blood pressure rise!!!!)

(I don’t want to see a single smile out of him!!!! I don’t care who’s in the court room!!!

(Blood boiling)

Well, if it's any consolation, I saw it as an awkward, "uh, yeah, hi dad", kind of smile. I don't think he's enjoying himself, but then I don't think he feels anything about anything one way or the other.

That was a fast hearing. Definitely want to see the rewind. JP entered and left the courtroom grinning like a ghoul. Although he was looking in the direction of his family. JP waived his right to a prelim examination.
When everyone else left the courtroom JP's lawyer's gathered around his family members and said something like "We have to make sure that camera is off before we talk to them." Then they decided to move to the conference room because the court camera wasn't going off. Looked like his sister was there today along with his dad and brother.

Thanks.

Hmm every time I have seen a defendant waive their PH it's because the facts that would have been brought out is extremely damaging, and often horrific.

It has to be very damaging for the defendant since this is a good opportunity for the defense attorney to cross examine each witness. Some PHs can be quite lengthy and become mini trials.

I think the defense convinced him to waive it knowing if any of the graphic details were known now it could possibly taint the potential jury pool.

So he didnt make a plea today? Tia

Some screenshots of JP's smirk on the way in. He is looking at his family members who are there to support him. Anyone know who the woman in purple is in the front row?

(Yes please. This may be somewhat helpful for my blood pressure. Heart is beating out of my chest. We need a rewind and slow motion)

Jinx @Gardener1850, thanks for posting above.

Well those screenshots don’t seem to express the pompous big grin of it of what I (imagined?) when it was live so sorry for my dramatic and perhaps incorrect interpretation. My blind arse certainly shouldn’t be giving visual interpretations haha.

I agree. Perhaps he was pleasantly surprised to see his sister and it brought a smile to his face. I really didn't see a smirk. In any case, what do you wanna bet that he and his attorney will be having a little chat...? Lol

Don’t know what the smirk meant, but he was rocking like a baby in his chair throughout most of that brief proceeding. I think he’s scared. As he should be.

For JC’s sake, glad this is going right to trial.

Ok. Seems maybe I got all worked up for nothing (embarrassed). Sorry for :drama:

(This is what happens when a half blind person goes in with a giraffe mask ready to throw stones.)

My apologies for the misinterpretation!

He also hung his head as soon as he was seated. Maybe “reality” is sinking in?

Nope, no plea.

Jake Patterson will not enter a plea today. Arraignment set for March 27th at 1pm. Hearing over. Just 2 minutes in length. #JaymeCloss

Yeah. I call these kind violent criminals, 'flatliners.' Its like their blood pressure or heartbeat wouldnt even register.

They show little or no emotion at all because they feel nothing.

Even when they try to say certain things it comes across as awkward with a flat affect.

This guy us a scary piece of work.

I don't know, Magz. It didn't look like a smirk to me, but this is from a reporter who was in the courtroom:

https://twitter.com/WEAU_Brooke/status/1093195085007736832#JaymeCloss’ kidnapping suspect, 21-year-old Jake Patterson waived his right to a preliminary hearing in court this morning. I noticed a lot of fidgeting, rocking in his chair during his appearance today. It also looked as if he was smirking on his way out of the courtroom.

Definitely grinning like the chesire cat. I think it's all because he thinks he's famous by now and is loving it!

Ha! I described it as a "ghoulish grin" when I saw it live. He did look more pompous on the way out and was practically giggling to himself. See my exiting screenshots above in post #512.

Ok other people saw this. A couple posters above as well as this reporter.

Well I go back to my initial impression then LOL.

He needs to wipe that damn smile off his face!!! There should be no smiling! Not a single smile! (Not one lip twitch, you hear me boy!?!)

He had a cocky disrespectful air about him or so I thought.

It looked to me as though he knew where they would be. I wonder if he asked before being brought in and was told where they were sitting.

As for smirking, I thought he might have been as well at first. On a second viewing though, it's clear (to me) that he is not. The reporters didn't have the advantage of watching what he was doing a second time.
