Source: Patterson to follow through on pledge to plead guilty
A source with knowledge of the investigation and prosecution of Jake Patterson for the alleged kidnapping of 13-year-old Jayme Closs and murder of her parents confirmed to 27 News Patterson intends to plead guilty Wednesday in his felony case.

Earlier this month, KARE-TV reported Patterson sent a letter to a station reporter and wrote he would plead guilty to spare the Closs family more harm.

(27 News will stream the court hearing at 1 p.m. HERE.)

The source did not specify whether Patterson would enter guilty pleas to all four felony charges he faces.

‘There Is No Defense’: Expert Thinks Jayme Closs Kidnapping Case Won’t Go To Trial
[...]

Criminal defense attorney Lynne Torgerson, who read the criminal complaint outlining the evidence that led to the charges against Patterson, is convinced the case will not go to trial.

She has no affiliation with the case, but her experience leads her to believe Patterson and his team will enter a not guilty plea Wednesday despite the fact that the 21 year old admitted to police how he abducted Closs from her home.

“There’s just a certain life to a case, and if the arraignment is extremely early, it would probably be irresponsible to allow your client to resolve it at that date, especially in a case this serious,” Torgerson said. “But ultimately it’s [Patterson’s] decision.”

She also does not expect Patterson to enter a plea of not guilty by mental defect. In the complaint, Patterson told investigators how he carefully covered his tracks to avoid detection, such as wiping down the shotgun shells used, wearing a mask and killing Closs’s parents to ensure there were no witnesses.

“All of that evidence, and there’s additional evidence, would negate any mental defect, knowing that it was wrong, ‘Couldn’t control myself at the time,’” Torgerson said.

Jake Patterson to enter plea in Jayme Close case: ‘I hope he enters a guilty plea’

Apologize if posted, have seen links from this station I think but this one has a remark from a co-worker of James. Nothing big and the rest is a retell of the events of the case, mostly correct...

Today will tell us if he pleads guilty. While I can believe it based on the case against him that he may be telling the truth when he says he intends to do that, I still realize the stated intent to do so comes from JP himself so i await seeing that...

Want to say a thank you to all for the links. We will know in just a couple of hours 1 p.m. CST.

The not guilty plea has nothing to do with guilt. It is a legal maneuver only for the govt having to prove you are guilty. The burden of proof is on the govt, You are presumed innocent, You do not have to prove innocence. You are until found guilty.

He can choose to engage in a long costly trial where he will be found guilty. Does he want the drama?

I think most importantly, does he want to be in jail or in prison

Since we are not Iran, our prisons do offer amenities which are not available in jail. The trial could take years while he stays in jail. Would he rather be in prison? I think that is the bottom line. Any other thing he comes up with is BS.

He is so young. All the money down the drain to house him for what purpose? I wish he did not exist but having someone do executions makes me queasy as well.

Barron County, WI, has about 45,000 residents—and about twice that many media outlets here to cover the 1 pm arraignment of Jake Patterson, accused kidnapper of #JaymeCloss. He’s also charged w/shooting her parents to death.

Alright, guilty plea. Thank God.

Pleaded guilty to 3 counts. Count 4 dismissed.

No charges for crimes committed in Douglas County.

Plea agreement. He will plead guilty to counts 1, 2, and 3. Count 4 will be dismissed. The state will not file charges for crimes committed in Douglas County.

Per defense attorney, JP has wanted to plea guilty since they met him. And, they don't even have all the discovery yet. Some 800 gigabytes of video...
