Jake Patterson will be sentenced Friday, May 24. That's when Closs family, and even Jayme herself if she chooses, can give victim impact statements about how Patterson's actions have changed their lives. Patterson will also have a chance to speak.

Wonder if he will be in the same prison as Chris Watts.

Judge said he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Patterson’s father appeared to choke back tears in court. We’re waiting to see if he’ll speak to reporters. Other people in the case, including DA, sheriff and #JaymeCloss loved ones, did not.

The hearing lasted 17 minutes. As the judge walked #JakePatterson through the charges he seemed to sniffle. His attorney had his hand on his shoulder. Family and friends of #JaymeCloss had tears in their eyes as they left court and hurried out of the courthouse.

Jean Caesares is saying on HLN that JP was sobbing and his sister was crying uncontrollably when he pled guilty to the murders. Father started to get emotional when the judge said there could be two life sentences consecutively plus 40 years.

Wow, that's overwhelming for even me to think about. I have so many mixed emotions for Jayme in giving an impact statement. Only she knows what she is capable of doing and what is best for her.

I'm guessing that if she decides to do that, somebody will read it for her.

So will anyone on his behalf. That bites but it is not only the victims that get to do that. Not that it will make a difference but it is something the news does not state that is a fact. You know, he had a bad childhood, I screwed up as a parent, he suffered this or suffered that.

I in no way am saying it will make a difference. I am simply saying from what I understand, it is not only the victims that get to speak. He does and so do people on his behalf.

Like it or not.

Yet he wanted to plead from day one.

Regardless, he pled guilty. There was a plea deal. Case over but for sentencing.

And that is a good thing.

Wouldn't that be interesting!!

ETA: Just my opinion, but the judge seemed to get emotional during the murder pleas.

HLN saying JP yelled "Bye Jayme" and yelled the F word.

Other than that I'm happy with today's results.

I may be one of the only few who still thinks JP is a dangerous predator. His whole persona to me is off kilter, strange in a way I haven't seen in other killers. It's back to my original assessment of him being an Enigma.

He's a cold blooded killer, now even by his own admission, but has a quiet and reclusive demeanor about him. I still believe he would have killed Jayme had she not escaped, and if not caught, I truly believe he would have done this again.

Man pleads guilty to kidnapping girl, killing her parents
[...]

Patterson stoically answered “yes” and “yeah” to repeated questions from Barron County Judge James Gabler about whether he understood what he was doing. Later, as he responded “guilty,” to each count, he could be heard sniffling. He paused for several seconds after the judge asked him about the kidnapping charge before stuttering, “guilty.”

Defense attorney Richard Jones told Gabler that Patterson “wanted to enter a plea from the day we met him” and brushed off strategies presented to him, including trying to suppress his statements to investigators.

“He rejected all that and has decided this is what he wants to do,” Jones said.

You are not alone. He can never be free. He is a danger to Jayme and probably others. I have no douubt that if he had gotten away with these crimes he would do it again.

"Bye Jayme" confirmed by other news media. What a sick puppy. Too bad he couldn't be put down.

MOO, he fits the profile of one of those incel kids and I believe this guy is knowingly trying to become some sort of martyr to that community.

I think the biggest impact is if she writes it and writes it as a 13 year point of view. Simple, innocent, and only a few very impactful sentences as only a 13 year old would express emotions. If it's too "mature" and well written it takes away the raw emotion of what he did too this "child."

Yes, there could absolutely be people who speak on his behalf. It won't matter, but could possibly provide some insight on his life if the person speaking chooses to go there.

Both Patterson and his attorney have to be idiots.
