I hope that she does not want to do anything.

People who are sickos want to engage you. It does not matter if it is postive or negative. It shows that the person matters to you.

If she and everyone else says nothing, it does not engage him and gives him no pleasure to know that he has any power over their lives.

Let him now be dead to them and everyone else.

And boo hoo. Did his family cry out in huge tears thinking of Jayme and her dead parents?

I agree, however, this is it. It's now or never to having the power back in your hands to say the words out loud to him.
"You do not matter"...
and maybe the impact statement is as simple as one sentence.

  • #283
Impact statements can also be wrote and given just to the judge to read as he/she contemplates sentencing.

I'm torn honestly. I can see good points to both, ultimately I am sure Jayme and her family will discuss it and will support whatever her decision is. I want her to do what SHE wants to do and what will bring her some peace.

WATCH LIVE: Jake Patterson Hearing in Jayme Closs Case
(Replay)

Both Patterson and his attorney have to be idiots.
I was wondering if his attorney was whispering to him you don't have to do this, if you plead guilty it's over, no turning back. I mean that would be his legal obligation.

If you tell someone how much you hate them or how much they screwed things up and affected you, a sicko loves that.
You have acknowledged their power,

HLN saying JP yelled "Bye Jayme" and yelled the F word.

Other than that I'm happy with today's results.

If this is true and with media who knows these days, but all of the intelligent people here and everywhere know what he has hinted at in his media contacts (subtly and at other times not so much so) and his quick answers today but then major hesitation on some charges and questions. He is, at least in his own delusional imagination, hinting at something he delusionally thinks or wants people to think.

I will not say it outright as that is his goal and what he likely wants but I would not be surprised if--just wait for it--some day...

I hope I am wrong in wondering this. Even if correct, it won't fly or even get off of the ground. Not a chance in he**.

Man pleads guilty to kidnapping girl, killing her parents
[...]

Patterson stoically answered “yes” and “yeah” to repeated questions from Barron County Judge James Gabler about whether he understood what he was doing. Later, as he responded “guilty,” to each count, he could be heard sniffling. He paused for several seconds after the judge asked him about the kidnapping charge before stuttering, “guilty.”

Defense attorney Richard Jones told Gabler that Patterson “wanted to enter a plea from the day we met him” and brushed off strategies presented to him, including trying to suppress his statements to investigators.

“He rejected all that and has decided this is what he wants to do,” Jones said.

[...]

Not at you Pommy, but the media sometimes wow. It is Babler, not Gabler. Big case and not a new case and they have it wrong.

I have a significant hearing impairment and lip read. Patterson raised himself to see over people, and let out a one syllable word... it looked like “Pass” which doesn’t make sense. It was definitely only one syllable. Maybe a nickname for someone that he recognized.

* There is NO WAY that he said multiple words, or “Bye Jayme” unless it was off camera. If there is no evidence the rumors of such need to stop.

He said what now?

Yes, there could absolutely be people who speak on his behalf. It won't matter, but could possibly provide some insight on his life if the person speaking chooses to go there.

It will not matter I agree. It is something that I never knew though and came to know a long time ago. The sentencing and statements can be harder than a jury trial on the victims. They also have to listen to others (possibly) talk him up or give tales that would result in sympathy (possibly).

It will not matter though--sentencing will be up to the judge and even without other charges, there are two cold blooded murders here.

I just wanted to point out that it goes both ways with statements. Or I think it does, it is not only from victims which once found guilty I would hope would be the case, but I do not think it is--I cannot guarantee I am right, but it is the way I understand it...

He was probably looking to see if Jayme was in Court. It wouldn't surprise me if he thought she would be.

It would just be THE BOMB if Jayme showed up at the sentencing and stood up to him.

No kidding, so very true. I see this entirely. That sicko is probably looking forward to the day he sees her in a courtroom delivering her victim impact statement. Do not give him that satisfaction.

Yet in the same breath, there can also I think be great healing in dismissing him in a statement and being there and showing no acknowledgment that he is even a person or exists--or on the opposite side looking him right in the eyes as a 13 year old to someone who thinks he had some sick power and saying you did this, you did that, but in no way did you destroy me, I escaped and I have more strength in my 13 year old character than you do in any way or ever had even if you thought you did. The very parents who raised me that you took away gave me that very strength. I have my entire life ahead of me and you have NONE. You decided to throw your life away and take that of my parents as well. I, however, survived and will excel DESPITE you. F you JP.

Besides JP being a murdering, child kidnapper what else is he and his lawyers idiotic about?

You have acknowledged their power,

It is quite true. Yet the accused also knows with every statement of how one was affected it may be another nail in their coffin by a judge or jury. Or one can say how horrible all was but then finish with power and emaciating their little ego and power that comes from nothing but their act that only they knew they were about to commit on unknowing people and then (forgive me) end with a smirk (like his) saying did you think I liked you or cooked with you or do you understand yet I was doing that to save my life until you trusted me and I got away? You bought that? You dumb a**. This is for my parents--who are at peace--as they saw me escape--your parents are suffering. Mine should not be gone but are at peace.

All due on both family sides to you JP!

Venting. I hope the strong opinion can be excused.

The hearing lasted 17 minutes. As the judge walked #JakePatterson through the charges he seemed to sniffle. His attorney had his hand on his shoulder. Family and friends of #JaymeCloss had tears in their eyes as they left court and hurried out of the courthouse.

I'm so glad to read that JP pled guilty and saved Jayme and her family additional heartbreak and the taxpayers a lot of money.

People who are sick do not care if it is negative. I know from being a teacher that getting any attention , good or bad, is what they want. You have acknowledged them. You have interacted with them You have given them your time.

I'm not sure if that was the moment he said "Bye Jayme" or not, but several different reporters who are unaffiliated with one another heard him say those words. MOO

I cannot argue with that.

It is sadly very true.

Negative attention is better than none.

Yet with Jayme, and it is up to her and should be, the fact can be made it is the last attention you will ever receive from me and still make it so not about him and make it about her power and her standing up for her parents.

I agree that I think from day one he has probably looked for her at every hearing... I think he is upset she has not been there quite honestly....

It takes his power away.

The thing that bothered me the worst in the what, three(?) media contacts is like he forgot entirely he killed two people in cold blood.

I think whatever she decides to do is just fine. I trust that others will remind him of what he did.
