Found Alive WI - Jayme Closs, 13, Barron, missing after parents found shot, 15 Oct 2018 *Arrest* #44

  • #401
Coming back to this thread for the first time in a while. Can someone update me since the Wikipedia article gives its latest news source as being early this month. I did read that the guy said he and Jayme just chilled and played video games. There's a serious flaw in this. He "accidentally" killed Jayme parents and forced Jayme out of her home in the middle of the night. There is something seriously wrong with this statement.

I don't know what will happen to the perp, but I agree with the Mod/Admin posting above. No matter what this guy may have done to Jayme, he does not deserve the same treatment.

I don't know where you left off so it's hard to know where to begin with an update. For me, the best way to catch up is to read the media thread which is here:

“Do you understand that (by pleading guilty):

very long list”

—-

I wonder if Jayme is watching this.

@PommyMommy, do you happen to know if there’s a list of this? It was sooo long. All was not surprising but I did think it was interesting that what appears to be standard list includes “may not possess body armor”...

I'm so glad it's over after the sentencing. I had the volume up really high listening to the guilty plea. When his lawyer was holding his shoulder and talking to him he (lawyer) was staying take your time, take a deep breath, over and over again and you can hear him sobbing. I really think he had deluded himself into thinking he loves Jayme and she loves him back.
All the media should do Jayme a big favour and not print another word from him if he contacts them.
this is what he wants to live in his own fantasies and it is not fair to Jayme to give him another second of anyone's time.
thanks for all the updates. Xx

There's a list at this link - scroll down to the section "Potential Consequences of a Criminal Conviction." The body armor is per WI: You may not possess bulletproof body armor. Wis. Stat. § 941.291.

I do not think he ever said he accidentally killed the parents. While I have no consideration for this perp, I do not think that is true. He did say something to the effect of LE twisted his words and it was not planned or some such and that maybe they were just covering for their mistakes, that is the closest thing to that I remember. Yes, in a couple of recent media contacts, he makes it sound as he and Jayme just cooked and hung out together, etc. He actually hardly mentions the parents or murders, ignores it and just talks about her. Sickening.

He has pled guilty and they in turn removed I think the 4th charge and agreed not to prosecute any possible charges resulting from Douglas County so it was a plea deal. Sentencing if I recall will be in late May. That is the latest news/update.

To the best of my recollection.

Sentencing is May 24th

JP is not receiving any treatment for any mental disorder.
This shocked me. I'm not sure why except he is so young and no other criminal charges before this, that I know of.

I hope that she does not want to do anything.

People who are sickos want to engage you. It does not matter if it is postive or negative. It shows that the person matters to you.

If she and everyone else says nothing, it does not engage him and gives him no pleasure to know that he has any power over their lives.

Let him now be dead to them and everyone else.

And boo hoo. Did his family cry out in huge tears thinking of Jayme and her dead parents?
I think it's perfectly normal for his family to be sad. Their sadness in him spending the rest of his life in prison doesn't mean that they don't think he deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life. JMO

I think he was crying because its hit him he’s going to spend the rest of his life in a jail cell.

I find it hard to believe he has true remorse over assassinating her parents. If he has any compassion in his heart he wouldn’t have been able to do such a thing to begin with, moo.

He’s only crying because he got caught. Jmo.
Or he realized in his sick mind that he wouldn't be able to ever have a relationship with Jayme again. Not that they had a relationship but in his mind he thought they did. Either way his crying was all about him.

"Bye Jayme"? What a 🤬🤬🤬. What an absolute creep. How dare he? I feel like that's an effort to control her and have the last word.

Disgusted.
I hope if the judge had thought about being lenient, that comment changed his mind. I am hoping he gets the maximum sentence, with no chance of parole.

I’m not surprised. There’s prisoners that are able to be reformed and reintegrated into society, then there’s JP.

Have you ever filed a motion to suppress evidence of any kind? The attorney didnt even have a chance to do that because of Patterson ‘s rush to plead. You never know what’s going to happen at a suppression hearing.
So do you think there wasn't enough evidence to convict him of the crimes?

I understand there are very evil people in this world but they normally have red flags growing up and I don't mean anti-social behavior. I think I was shocked that the length he went to, to get what he wanted, like he was entitled, was purely about selfishness and not a mental disorder. I knew he knew right from wrong so I knew it wasn't a defense.

With cases like this, it saddens me that the sister and the brother and the father and the mother suffer a life sentence also. I agree. I think they realize perhaps that he is deserving of his sentence.

IN NO WAY I am comparing this to the loss of her and her family. But just recognizing, and having empathy for his family also. The collateral damage to the family of the victim and the perpetrator always comes to mind with cases like this.

It is not difficult to have some empathy for his family. I felt sympathy for Scott Peterson's family while I detested him. His mother believed in his innocence and I thought her naive and not admitting that which I believe somewhere deep inside she knew. Yet I could not bring myself to hate her.

I also agree in no way is it nearly the same as the loss to JC and family. Sadly, it is their son that had a choice and made a severely wrong one that has caused this pain to both families. That alone though also has to be a very difficult thing to deal with. It still does not come close to comparing to what their son did to three innocent victims. I think at least the dad seems to realize that.

I think the truth is none of us would want to be in the shoes of either of these families.

And the cause of both families pain is JP.

Edited victim to plural victims and fix last sentence.

I never even inferred that. The evidence is overwhelmingly but that does not mean it would be admissible at trial.

Let’s start with the traffic stop that led to the arrest of Patterson. In no way am I criticizing the police but very little is known about the stop. What if the attorney argued that there was no probable cause to stop the car? They’d be in real trouble since everything after that could be inadmissible.

How about the confession? What if the judge suppressed it?

I’ve been involved in hundreds of suppression hearings. Most are just formalities but you never know what is going to happen. I think that Patterson’s attorney was negligent not to ask for one.

We have zero idea of what he had been doing in his life,

Please read about Scott’s mother. She kept giving her babies away. I think it was the doctor who told her to keep Scott.

Lots if info out there
